Chapter 181 Additional Update
Chapter 181: Chapter 181 Additional Update
"Commandery Princess, if we follow the lakeshore and go up from the west, we can reach Listening Maple Pavilion directly. Commandery Princess, let’s hurry," Xing Yu ran back and pointed at the path behind her.
"What’s the rush?" Fu Dong saw Xing Yu’s anxious expression. Didn’t she see that the Commandery Princess was in a bad mood?
"Commandery Princess, there are people over there." Xing Yu pointed towards a lush, dense patch of reeds.
Zong Yunqian and Gu Dao immediately retreated into the reeds, exchanged glances, and wondered if they had been discovered.
Zheng Nianru glanced in the direction Xing Yu was pointing but didn’t notice anyone.
"Let’s go this way." Zheng Nianru pointed towards the route they had come from and spoke immediately, with Fu Dong nodding quickly and helping Zheng Nianru to turn and walk away.
Zheng Nianru had just turned and taken two steps when suddenly, two figures charged straight towards her, clearly targeting her and completely ignoring Fu Dong and Xing Yu by her side.
Zheng Nianru instantly realized that the two charging at her were females, but their movements and demeanor were nothing like ordinary female servants. Having survived dozens of assassination attempts, Zheng Nianru passively concluded that these weren’t ordinary killers; they were out for her life.
However, the opponents didn’t draw any weapons; they simply pushed Zheng Nianru, with the vast lake of Siyan Lake behind her.
Xing Yu had already rushed towards one of them. Although the Hidden Guard had initially disregarded the two female servants, the one Xing Yu rushed at stumbled, but being trained, she regained her footing after retreating a few steps. She did not let Xing Yu break free, and soon they were entangled together.
Xing Yu was anxious, concerned about the other assassin who had pounced towards Zheng Nianru. She hadn’t expected her current opponent to be much more troublesome than she had imagined. Distracted, Xing Yu was immediately entangled and rolled down.
"Splash—" A huge wave surged on the lake surface.
"Help—" Zheng Nianru and Fu Dong desperately grappled with another guard, although the two weren’t strong, the Hidden Guard’s order was to give a lesson and push the person into the water, not to kill. Seeing their companion pushed into the water, the guard clenched her teeth and grabbed the two clinging to her and rolled with them.
"Splash—" A larger splash rose from the lake, with several figures struggling and entangling in the water.
"Help—" Fu Dong struggled to surface, shouting loudly. Zheng Nianru pulled her down, urging her not to get distracted, and to deal with this person first.
Fu Dong wasn’t a good swimmer, but she managed to endure due to her height advantage. Her long arms and legs immediately entangled the adversary, letting Zheng Nianru catch her breath momentarily and helping to firmly press the assassin under the water, preventing her from surfacing.
Zong Yunqian had not expected such a situation, staring at the lake surface, unsure of what to do.
"Help—" Fu Dong’s cry for help was instinctive; it wasn’t something Zheng Nianru could stop just by wanting her not to call out.
Zong Yunqian furrowed his brows and already took a step forward, but Gu Dao held back his own Princely Heir.
"Princely Heir, could it be one of those new tricks by the ladies from prominent families?" If the Princely Heir went down to save them and they turned out to be ladies from prominent families, he would inevitably become involved with them.
Zong Yunqian looked at Gu Dao, realizing that there was some truth in his words.
"Should I go down and check first?" Gu Dao saw the violent struggle on the lake surface and tentatively asked.
"Alright, you go down first," Zong Yunqian nodded. He had seen quite a few tactics from ladies from prominent families, but this was the first time someone had been so ruthless towards him.
Gu Dao immediately jumped into the water. Although the Zong Sheng Aristocratic Family was located at the Northwest Border, where lakes were scarce and Gu Dao was not good at swimming, relying on the fact that he was a man skilled in Kung Fu, he immediately swam toward the lake.
The Hidden Guards in the lake became more and more astonished as they grappled, Xing Yu’s chaotic and aggressive tactics, though not quickly fatal, posed a terrifying physical force. If she wasn’t agile in dodging, she would have already died under the girl’s fists.
The Hidden Guards began to panic. If they delayed further, they might hold out, but the Commandery Princess might drown even without them intervening. A task that should have been easy had now become a hot potato, and the key issue was that they couldn’t kill the opponent.
Gu Dao thought for a moment underwater, then immediately decided that Xing Yu was at a disadvantage against the Hidden Guard one-on-one. He swam towards Xing Yu, but since the clothing of all these women looked similar, Gu Dao approached but dared not strike rashly.
In the midst of the chaos, Xing Yu suddenly found another person appearing beside her, startling her. "Great, reinforcements have arrived, and it’s a man," she thought, and without a second thought, she threw a punch.
With a "bang," the force of Xing Yu’s attack created an arched trough in the water. Before Gu Dao could recognize her, his right eye socket was in excruciating pain, almost exploding from the blow that could shatter a tree trunk.
That Hidden Guard instantly grabbed Xing Yu’s throat. With an outsider present, their plan was compromised. Not wanting to kill was no longer an option, especially since he was just a servant.
Gu Dao nearly passed out from the pain, but in that moment, he was certain this was a real assassination. Instinctively, he grabbed the Hidden Guard. Although the water limited Gu Dao’s advantages, a man’s force was still terrifying.
Zong Yunqian watched Gu Dao join the chaotic scene, but he seemed ineffective; instead, the trio entangled together appeared more in danger. Moreover, the one who looked like a lady from a prominent family was losing her strength, her movements slowing down, ready to sink at any moment.
Zheng Nianru took a deep breath and dove down, quickly shedding the cumbersome coat. At this moment, she couldn’t care less; she was afraid of dying, always had been, and if she had to die, it would only be at someone else’s hand, not drowning in the cold water that was her nightmare.
As Zheng Nianru dove, she immediately climbed toward the center of the lake. At this point, she only wanted to escape. Fu Dong’s strength was diminishing rapidly, and she would soon be unable to hold off the assassin. Either way, she faced death.
"Help—" With her hands and feet wrapped around the Hidden Guard, who was desperately struggling on the water surface, Fu Dong suddenly realized she couldn’t see her Commandery Princess. In a panic, she remembered her princess couldn’t swim. Fu Dong was immediately filled with panic; Zheng Nianru was nowhere to be seen on the surface.
Fu Dong’s mind went blank, "The Princess... the Princess..."
The Hidden Guard suddenly counterattacked, pulling Fu Dong underwater.
Zheng Nianru frowned, having just freed herself. She only saw Fu Dong struggling desperately, and gritting her teeth, she thought about how these hindering servants were also a major reason for her past failures.
Zheng Nianru immediately pulled the Hidden Guard who had floated to the surface, the guard struggling desperately, causing water to splash everywhere.
Zong Yunqian noticed something was amiss, as the lady from the prominent family had sunk down and hadn’t come up again. He realized the situation had escalated, and at this point, it was impossible for him to disassociate himself from it.
Zong Yunqian fiercely dived down, swimming forward underwater, grabbed the Hidden Guard’s ankle with a swift, precise movement, and forcefully pulled the guard under the water.
It was then that Zheng Nianru realized the sudden appearance of someone. Had someone noticed?
At that moment, Zheng Nianru suddenly understood — pulling her underwater wasn’t to kill her but to ensure others noticed her. The harder part was that if she was rescued from the water now, that was exactly what the others wanted to see.
