Chapter 891 I Prefer You More

Chapter 891: Chapter 891 I Prefer You More

Abigail had already heard from Brandon Piers that Benjamin Jones had become a father and also had a girlfriend. Naturally curious, she received a message today from Benjamin saying he was bringing them along, which made her quite excited. Now, seeing the typically aloof Benjamin carrying Alice in one arm and holding Catherine Ford’s hand in the other, with an almost possessive air, she was momentarily stunned before bursting into teasing laughter.

Benjamin cleared his throat upon seeing her reaction, "Abby, let me introduce you. This is your sister-in-law, and this is Alice, my daughter. Catherine, this is Abigail, her husband, and their son, Teddy."

Catherine gazed at the unbelievably stunning family in front of her, greeted them, and couldn’t help but whisper to Benjamin, "Are they celebrities? How can they be so beautiful!"

"Mom, Uncle and Auntie are super pretty, and this little brother is so handsome! Can I play with him?" Alice heartily agreed with her mom, blinking her big eyes as she stared at Teddy.

Benjamin: "...Did I bring out two fangirls today, one big and one small?"

The typically cool Benjamin glanced at the two captivated individuals beside him and reluctantly spoke, "It’s cold outside. You can play with your little brother later once we’re inside."

But as soon as he said that, Alice was already struggling, reaching out her tiny hand to shake Teddy’s.

Teddy, naturally outgoing, happily shouted, "Sister, sister... Let’s play together," after Alice held his hand.

Saying so, Teddy eagerly broke free from the servant’s arms. Alice turned back to Benjamin and asked, "Uncle, can you put Alice down? Alice wants to play with the handsome little brother."

Benjamin: "..." That’s the most polite "Uncle" he’s ever heard!

Maintaining his composure with effort, Benjamin put Alice down, "Play for a bit and then come back to find Uncle."

Though she kept calling him "Uncle," he couldn’t help but wonder when he could get her to change that.

"Benjamin, don’t worry. I’ll have someone keep an eye on them so they won’t get hurt," Abigail assured Benjamin, smiling.

Benjamin begrudgingly answered affirmatively. Was he worried they’d get hurt?

As a new father, he suddenly found himself worrying about his little girl possibly being swept away by some handsome boy in the future.

Brandon Piers glanced at Benjamin’s reaction, raising an eyebrow gently, "Let’s go inside."

Brandon had previously been concerned that Benjamin hadn’t truly moved on from his feelings for Abigail and suspected that the girlfriend might be just a façade. But seeing Benjamin’s current reaction, Brandon finally felt reassured, and even the tone of his invitation carried an uncommon sincerity.

Especially when he noticed Catherine admiringly gazing at him and Abigail, coupled with Benjamin’s jealous expression, Brandon couldn’t help but feel a sense of triumph.

Benjamin tightened his grip on Catherine’s hand. Taking advantage of Brandon and Abigail busying themselves with hosting duties, he turned Catherine’s head to face him, "Do you think he’s more handsome than me?"

Catherine, still shaken by Abigail and Brandon’s stunning looks, thoughtlessly nodded.

Benjamin: "..." Thoroughly annoyed!

He rarely showed much emotion on his usually stoic face, so even when he was frustrated, it wasn’t visibly obvious. Still, his eyes fixated on Catherine, who was still processing things slowly. Blunt as ever, she replied, "Don’t you think so? They’re really so beautiful and perfect together!"

"Oh." Benjamin forced a smile, his expression solemn. Was he not attractive?

Catherine finally caught on to his mood upon hearing the detached "oh." "Don’t tell me you’re jealous?" she asked.

"Jealous?" Benjamin was startled and responded with that expression as if to ask, "Are you joking?"

Seeing his reaction, Catherine burst out laughing. "You’re of a different type. He’s very handsome, but you’re no worse. Besides, I like you more."

Benjamin couldn’t help but feel that Catherine’s words carried a hint of coaxing, but since she rarely said "I like you," he decided to reluctantly feel pleased.

Not far away, Brandon kept an eye on Benjamin while entertaining other guests. Overhearing their exchange, he unmercifully whispered in Benjamin’s ear, "Childish."

Brandon’s stunningly handsome face grew even more dazzling after saying that, his expression filled with satisfaction as he got back at Benjamin for previous remarks.

Benjamin: "..." He’d never met such a petty man!

Catherine didn’t catch Brandon’s comment, as she had been stunned by his smile. A man looking that good—it’s almost monstrous. Just as she was marveling at the sight, she suddenly felt a chill and raised her head only to meet Benjamin’s disapproving stare. She quickly flashed him a smile, "I like you the most."

"Hmph." Benjamin huffed and took Catherine over to greet Elder Piers and Old Mr. Smith.

The two elders were sitting by the floor-to-ceiling window, basking in the winter sun as they played chess. Upon seeing Benjamin and Catherine approach, they put down their chess pieces and turned to greet them. Old Mr. Smith patted Benjamin’s hand with enthusiasm, "Good kid, Grandpa Smith is just waiting to drink at both your wedding and Truman’s."

"Don’t worry. I’ll make sure you’re full," Benjamin smiled.

Old Mr. Smith immediately glanced in Abigail’s direction, speaking hurriedly, "Keep it down. Don’t let that girl overhear, or my drinks will be ruined!"

"I’ll definitely hear it. If you don’t share half, I’ll report you to Abigail," Old Piers interjected. He’d recently been heavily restricted and not even able to eat or drink freely.

Church Smith scoffed, "You old scoundrel, have some shame. Reporting me, really? Got any shame left? Besides, does your weak body handle drinking well? Hmph! Benjamin, don’t listen to that old man. When are you planning your wedding?"

His words carried endless anticipation.

"As long as Catherine’s family has no objections, we’ll choose a date after the New Year and let you two elders know," Benjamin said with a humbler attitude than usual.

The two elders beamed, immediately asking Catherine a few questions before stuffing two large red envelopes into her hands.

Flattered, Catherine hesitated to accept them until Benjamin nodded to her, prompting her to quickly express her thanks.

After leaving the elders, Benjamin took Catherine to greet other people before finally sitting in the living room. By this time, Alice and Teddy were already playing together. Though Alice was more than a year older than Teddy, the two little ones were having a fantastic time.

Catherine, delighted to see her daughter find a playmate, wore a continuous smile. Abigail approached just then, "Benjamin, Brandon and Director Locke are grilling lamb. How about helping out? I’ll look after your young wife."

Benjamin looked toward Catherine.

Catherine felt embarrassed and sweet under his gaze, quickly using both hands to gesture for him to leave, "Go help them."

Benjamin finally stood and walked away.

As soon as he left, Abigail sat beside Catherine, smiling lightly, "It’s my first time seeing Benjamin care about someone so much."

Catherine flushed, "He’s just worried I might feel uncomfortable."

"It’s because he cares so much that he notices these subtle details." Abigail teased, arching her eyebrows playfully. A servant arrived soon after, escorting Mary Scott in. Abigail waved cheerfully, "Mary, over here."

Catherine looked over, surprised, "Mary Scott?"

"Yes, the Mary Scott you know," Abigail said, introducing them just as Mary approached.

Initially, Catherine felt a little awkward, but both Abigail and Mary turned out to be very easygoing and fun to talk to. Soon they were chatting warmly, and when Lena Locke joined them, the conversation became even livelier. Alice and Teddy’s giggles, paired with the elders’ banter, filled the mansion with a joyful noise.

At dinner, aside from food suitable for elders and children, there was also roasted whole lamb.

The group gathered around the grill, savoring the aroma of the roasting meat as they ate and chatted. Catherine leaned against Benjamin’s chest; Brandon lazily clung to Abigail beside him. David Locke and Mary sat together, while Lena Locke was accompanied by Pullan’s overly attentive gestures. Meanwhile, Noel Roberts and Adam Piers, stationed on either side of the grill, found themselves flipping lamb and serving three couples, which left them rather sour.

"You’ve got no choice, but why are you subjecting yourself to this torture?" Adam glanced at Noel disdainfully.

Noel chuckled lightly, "Do you think I want to? I’ve been enslaved into delivering lamb and now have to endure PDA. Great."

"Exactly. Three to four servings of PDA—who could stomach that?" Adam eyed the couples, clicking his tongue.

"I’ve barely eaten any lamb, yet I feel stuffed," Noel added sarcastically.

Adam took the opportunity to glare at Pullan, "Hey, Pullan, isn’t it too much? Being so fixated on a girl still in college—isn’t that crossing the line for an old man?"

"Cough, cough, cough!" Pullan, startled by the sudden accusation, turned and innocently looked at Adam, "Master Adam, I’m just trying to be a good host to Miss Locke. It’s not what you think."

"Then why haven’t I seen you being this hospitable to me?" Adam protested.

Pullan seriously considered it for a moment, "Master Adam doesn’t count as a guest."

"And me? I count as a guest, right?" Noel piped up, unwilling to antagonize anyone else and choosing Adam to poke fun at.

Pullan responded politely, "Ladies first."

Noel: "..." Great, now even Pullan is outmatching me!

Just then, Brandon casually glanced up, "Adam hasn’t been taking good care of you?"

"When has he taken care of me?" Noel exclaimed in disbelief.

Brandon narrowed his eyes at Adam, "Where’s your hospitality?"

Adam couldn’t help but grimace at the image of Pullan attentively hosting Lena Locke. Goosebumps rose as he said, "Brother, your words are way off. When did I become the host of Moon Lake Manor? You haven’t even given me a room here."

"Oh, so you want Moon Lake Manor?" Brandon drawled lazily.

Adam broke out in a cold sweat. "Haha, no way! Hey, Noel, what would you like to eat? I’ll serve you!"

As he spoke, he leaned closer to Noel.

Noel scoffed, "Stay away! I don’t need you serving me."

Confused by the peculiar interaction, Catherine whispered to Benjamin, "Are they a couple? They actually seem kind of well-matched."

"Cough, cough, cough..." Adam, passing by, choked on his saliva upon overhearing. His eyes widened in disbelief, "A couple? Me and him? Are you crazy?!"

Catherine hadn’t expected her soft remark to be overheard, shrinking into Benjamin’s embrace in embarrassment. Benjamin coolly glanced over, "Reacting so strongly—feeling guilty?"

Adam: "..." Speechless.

Noel promptly threw away the piece of lamb Adam had just served him and jumped back a step, distancing himself.

Adam, seeing Noel’s reaction, exclaimed, "Oh, come on!"

The others erupted in laughter.

Catherine, initially flustered by her blunder, couldn’t help but laugh at their antics. She hadn’t anticipated that wealthy heirs could be so amusing.

By the time the gathering ended, it was already ten at night. Alice had long since fallen asleep, and Benjamin carried the little one as he and Catherine headed home. On the way, Catherine couldn’t contain her curiosity, "Abby is Abigail?"

She found it hard to associate Abigail with the nickname.

"Yes and no," Benjamin replied, tousling Catherine’s hair. "But don’t worry; you’ll always be my one and only."

The secret behind Abigail’s rebirth was too sensitive to share, but Benjamin still hoped Catherine would understand his feelings.

Looking into Benjamin’s eyes, Catherine recalled how she had surrendered herself to him the previous night. She had already resolved that Benjamin wasn’t the kind of man who’d treat someone as a substitute. As for whatever secret Abigail might have, Catherine had no interest in uncovering it. All she knew was that both Abigail and her husband were wonderful people who clearly loved each other deeply.

And she saw herself reflected in Benjamin’s gaze—that was enough.

Feeling content, Catherine tilted her head to nuzzle against Benjamin’s chin, "Where do you learn such sweet words?"

"Can’t I just speak from the heart?" Benjamin asked, dissatisfied.

Catherine chuckled, accidentally bumping into a black bag beside her, "What’s this?"

Curiously, she reached out for it. Benjamin thought about the overly bright smile Brandon had worn when placing the bag in his car, and a foreboding sense of dread arose, "Wait, don’t..." Benjamin began.

"’How to Make the Person You Love Fall in Love with You,’ ’Super Love Hypnosis,’ ’My Lovely Wife Loves Me Every Day,’ ’The Wolflike CEO’s Thirty-Six Strategies for Pursuing a Wife’..." Catherine read aloud, puzzled as she looked at Benjamin.

Benjamin was already dumbfounded, completely thrown by the absurd collection of items. Just what kind of nonsense was this? And here he’d wondered how a character like Brandon—a mere decorative vase—had managed to win Abigail over. Turns out it had been through these insane tricks! What’s worse, why hadn’t Brandon shared them sooner?

"Ahem, I just remembered—Master Brandon asked me to pass these on to my older brother," Benjamin replied with impeccable seriousness after an internal rant.

Catherine was surprised, "Your older brother has these sorts of interests?"

Benjamin mentally apologized to his older brother before confirming with conviction, "Of course—don’t be fooled by his military background. His tastes are quite unique, and this will help him find a girlfriend."

Catherine thought his explanation made sense and nodded, carefully repacking the books, "Next time, make sure to bring these to your older brother."

"Got it," Benjamin replied, though he suspected his older brother might kill him.

Luckily, Catherine was distracted by a sight outside the window, "Doesn’t that person look like Mary Scott?"

Having chatted extensively through the evening, Catherine was now casually calling Mary by her nickname. Benjamin instinctively denied it, "No way—their car’s ahead of ours."

But Catherine had already taken out her phone, instinctively dialing Mary’s number. She then watched as the person outside her window answered the call, prompting her to tell Reed to stop the car. "Benjamin, it’s Mary."

In the bitter chill of winter, seeing someone walking alone, Catherine didn’t know what might have happened to Mary, but she couldn’t ignore it after noticing her.

Benjamin frowned, "Rose Valley isn’t close from here."

"Exactly," Catherine replied, already opening the car door to step outside.

Mary looked behind her, confused by the sudden call without any words being spoken, only to see Catherine running toward her. Stopping in her tracks, she seemed surprised, "Catherine?"

"Where’s Director Locke? Never mind—all that matters is you get in the car first." Catherine started to ask about David then cut herself off, urging Mary into the vehicle.

She had only been outside for a brief time but was already chilled to the bone. She couldn’t fathom how David could bear leaving Mary in the middle of nowhere.

"I really..." Mary began to refuse.

"It’s cold—just get in the car," Catherine interrupted, grabbing Mary decisively and heading toward the vehicle.

Mary took a deep breath, rubbing her frozen face and ears, before reluctantly following along.

Neither woman noticed the car hidden in the shadows nearby.
