Chapter 722: Chapter 722: There are Always Men Casting Covetous Eyes on Her Chubby Child
"Uncle is here." Facing the little girl’s innocent face and listening to her sweet voice, Benjamin Jones couldn’t help but lower his voice.
"I’m so scared. Bad guys were in my dreams, and Mommy couldn’t fight them off. Uncle Jones, will you protect little noonlight and Mommy in my dreams too?" The little girl, not yet three years old, spoke in her childlike way. Her eyes were as pure as black grapes, without a hint of impurity.
Catherine Ford’s face was full of apology, "Lawyer Jones, I’m sorry, she’s just a child, I..."
"Hmm, Uncle will protect little noonlight and Mommy in your dreams and defeat the bad guys, okay?" Benjamin Jones interrupted the woman’s apology and spoke seriously to the little girl.
Little noonlight let out a sigh like a little adult, "Uncle Jones, you have to keep your word, okay!"
"Hmm, a gentleman’s promise is irretrievable."
"What’s a gentleman, and why do the horses need to chase them?" The little girl tilted her head and asked seriously after hearing Benjamin’s words.
Benjamin was stunned, explaining to the little girl what a gentleman’s promise meant. Beside him, Catherine’s face turned red. She had already disturbed Lawyer Jones a lot today, and now her daughter was clinging to him in the middle of the night. She picked up the little one, "Didn’t little noonlight promise Mommy to say goodnight to Uncle Jones and then go to sleep? Children have to keep their word."
"Okay then." The little girl reluctantly replied and looked at the screen with an aggrieved expression, "Uncle Jones, little noonlight is going to sleep now. Remember to help little noonlight defeat the bad guys in her dreams."
"Alright, Uncle Jones promises you."
"Good night, Uncle." Little noonlight said reluctantly and was carried to bed by Catherine.
Amidst the rustling sounds, Benjamin heard the beeping sound of the call being disconnected. He raised an eyebrow. Did she really think of him as a sleep aid?
But thinking of himself as a distinguished lawyer in Swallow City’s legal field, taking on an insignificant divorce case by accident, and now coaxing the client’s child to sleep in the middle of the night, seemed absurd.
He glanced at the glass of red wine beside him. It had aired out a bit of its acidity, tasted bitter at first, but with a sweet aftertaste. He shook his head and thought of it as doing a good deed for the day.
After finishing more than half of the wine, Benjamin didn’t feel a bit drunk. He went into his study, working until the sky began to lighten before heading downstairs.
Brandon Piers woke up and intended to return the way he came. Before he even got close to his car, he received a reminder from Hughes that Benjamin was at the parking lot.
After a good night’s sleep, Brandon felt refreshed and in a good mood. He frowned upon hearing Hughes’ words and was about to avoid Benjamin when his phone rang in the quiet environment. He glanced at the number, hung up, and walked straight towards his car.
As he approached, he saw Benjamin playing with his phone. When he saw Brandon coming, Benjamin slowly raised his head. His dark eyes did not show any surprise, obviously waiting for him.
"Lawyer..." Brandon had just opened his mouth when a sharp fist came towards his face. He dodged Benjamin’s punch with a light laugh.
Benjamin wasn’t surprised and immediately threw another punch.
Brandon stepped back and stopped holding back.
Before long, the two were in a fierce fight. Hughes watched in shock through the surveillance and wasn’t sure whether to inform Abigail.
In his hesitation, he heard Brandon order in a steady voice, "Don’t disturb Abigail."
Bang!
As Brandon finished speaking, Benjamin landed a punch on his face. Brandon retaliated with a punch to Benjamin’s face without showing any weakness.
In an instant, both of their faces were bruised.
Brandon wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth with the back of his hand, "Enough."
Benjamin withdrew his fist, "Brandon, what do you take Abby for?"
"I..." Brandon instinctively wanted to explain, but recalling his recent actions, what did it mean? Feeling guilty, he sighed, "You don’t understand."
Benjamin sneered, "I don’t understand? You were the one who handed Abby over to me. You even instructed the Piers’ Twitter to announce your engagement to Miss Swift. And now you’re sneaking into Abby’s room at night. What do you take her for? Where does that put her?"
Brandon was speechless. He knew his actions were shameless, but his overwhelming longing for her made it impossible for him to restrain himself from wanting to see her...
"Since you decided to protect her this way, then see it through. Do you think Piers wouldn’t find out what I have discovered? Brandon, your wishful thinking will get Abby killed." Benjamin’s words pulled at the injury on his mouth, and he endured the pain, making his eyebrows and eyes even fiercer.
"Lawyer Jones, are you saying all this out of selfish motives?" Brandon knew Benjamin was right, but he couldn’t control the jealousy rising within him.
Why did men keep casting covetous eyes on his Abby? Especially such dangerous men as Benjamin!
"Yes." Benjamin answered without any hesitation.
Brandon felt a bit stung, sensing he went too easy earlier.
"If Abigail liked you, she would’ve liked you already. You’re not her type." Brandon said sourly.
"You’re not Abby’s type either. It was just the right timing." Benjamin shot back unceremoniously.
"But I did meet her, didn’t I?" Brandon, though unwilling to admit it, had heard from Abigail herself, during her time under hypnosis, that he wasn’t her type. But that was okay. Relationships weren’t solely about types but also about opportunities.
He was luckier than Benjamin, or even Jeffrey.
Benjamin was left speechless by Brandon’s words, his face cold for a long while, "Until things are resolved, I don’t want to see you here again."
"Even if I don’t come, Abigail won’t like you. She only sees you as a brother." Brandon knew Benjamin was right. Since Benjamin could discover him, Joshua undoubtedly could too. For safety’s sake, he might not be able to see Abigail again.
But that didn’t mean he couldn’t hit where it hurt.
Benjamin’s face was grim as he coldly glanced at Brandon, "See you, Second Young Master."
Brandon took a deep breath, opened the car door, and got in.
Pullan stared at the steering wheel, not daring to look up. He hadn’t heard or seen anything.
Hughes, on the other hand, wasn’t so discreet. Although he worked for Brandon, it was because of Abigail. Without much restraint, he muttered in his earphones, "Childish."
Brandon’s already gloomy face turned darker.
Pullan shivered inwardly. This guy had a death wish?
Fortunately, their boss seemed distracted and didn’t appear to hear. Taking a quick glance back, he hurriedly started the car.
With a sigh, he thought, Brandon’s sneaky night visits were indeed fleeting like the wind.
Sleeping soundly, Abigail was completely unaware of all this.
She only woke up to find a black box on her bedside table. It was exquisite but unmarked. She opened it to find a watch that she immediately recognized as the same brand Brandon wore. Hesitating, she put it back, intending to place it in a drawer. Then she noticed a sticky note beside it, "Housewarming gift. Remember to wear it."
Abigail was torn between amusement and frustration. How could this man have the nerve to give her a housewarming gift? What was going on in his head?
