Chapter 716: Chapter 716: Abigail, I can’t sleep without you

After finishing lunch, Abigail played with Teddy for a while and then went straight to the study when the little guy took his nap.

Aunt Claudia followed her in and asked worriedly, "Abigail, didn’t you go to school? Why are you back at noon?"

"Oh, Headmaster Theodore invited me to join the medical research lab at the medical university. From now on, I don’t have to attend classes as long as I pass the final exams," Abigail explained with a smile.

Aunt Claudia looked surprised, "Is that allowed?"

"Yes, it is," Abigail blinked at Aunt Claudia.

Aunt Claudia was baffled, "But if you don’t attend classes, how can you pass?"

"Do you trust me?" Abigail was amused by Aunt Claudia’s bewildered expression and asked seriously.

"Of course, I trust you," Aunt Claudia answered without hesitation.

Abigail laughed, "Then just trust that I’ll manage."

"But..."

"No buts. Teddy is napping, so you should get some rest too." Without waiting for Aunt Claudia to continue asking questions, Abigail smiled and pushed her out of the study.

Aunt Claudia watched as Abigail closed the door, her mind full of questions. But was it really that simple?

Since Headmaster Theodore had invited Abigail to join the research lab, it showed that Abigail was quite impressive. She should believe in Abigail.

Thinking this, Aunt Claudia felt a surge of pride and even walked with a spring in her step.

Meanwhile, Abigail was not idle in the study, spending the entire afternoon reviewing the materials given to her by Headmaster Theodore.

It was now May, and the competition started in June, giving her only a month and a half to find a breakthrough for the project. Otherwise, all her previous efforts would be in vain.

Fortunately, she had an innate advantage with the project topic and could grasp both experiments and operations quickly.

Abigail stayed in the study all afternoon.

After dinner, she played with Teddy for a while before diving back into the study.

It wasn’t until midnight that she finally stretched her sore shoulders and walked out. Before she could enter the bedroom, Abigail sensed something was off. She furrowed her brows and pushed open the door, seeing a man stepping out of the bathroom.

Unlike the small towel he used yesterday, today he was wrapped in a larger towel that stretched from his hips to his calves. Was this an added feature?

Stop!

Realizing what she was thinking, Abigail immediately shouted "stop" in her head. Right now was not the time to worry about the size of the towel but rather, what was this man’s intention?

"Abigail, why are you just coming back?" Brandon Piers saw Abigail and asked naturally, with a hint of displeasure.

Abigail laughed in anger, "When am I supposed to come back?"

Brandon heard the hidden anger in Abigail’s voice and his survival instincts kicked in, "I meant you shouldn’t work too hard and should rest early."

"Ha, do you think I can rest well after seeing you?" Abigail’s eyes fell on the man’s abdomen. Sure enough, the wound had oozed a bit. Was this man addicted to the bitter meat scheme?

"You slept well last night," Brandon replied lowly.

Abigail, "..."

Was he talking back?

"I order you to leave immediately, and take your third son with you. What’s the use of a dog that can’t guard the door?" Abigail said coldly, recalling Bertha Swift’s words from today. It was the second son who chose her.

Brandon, "...Third son?"

"Isn’t your dog ranked third in your family? But that’s not the point, you should leave now." Abigail almost got sidetracked by his focus.

No sooner had she said that than Brandon suddenly clutched his abdomen, "Ugh, Abigail, it suddenly hurts a lot here. Could it be a complication..."

With that, Brandon appeared unsteady, sinking into the sofa.

Abigail, "..." How could this man be so melodramatic? Even Adam Piers had better acting skills.

Knowing he was lying, Abigail still gritted her teeth and approached, "I’ll change your dressing. Leave once it’s done."

"I went through a lot of trouble to get here unnoticed tonight." Upon hearing Abigail’s slight concession, Brandon immediately seized the opportunity.

Abigail had already started changing the bandages. Although the gauze seemed a bit wet, it hadn’t touched the wound. She quickly dealt with it, ignoring the man’s words entirely.

Brandon chatted for a while before he couldn’t help but tug at Abigail’s collar, "Abigail, I can’t sleep without you..."

"Why didn’t you think about not being able to sleep without me when you announced with Bertha Swift?" Abigail’s tone was harsh, but her heart was soft.

She felt completely defeated, losing terribly to this man.

"I... was wrong."

"Will you change?" Abigail looked at the man’s genuinely apologetic face and asked.

But this time, Brandon didn’t respond.

Abigail was so angry that she wanted to stab him again, and she did exactly that.

"Lie down on the bed," Abigail ordered as she stood up, having finished securing the gauze, breaking the tense atmosphere.

Brandon, who had expected to be kicked out, was stunned. He instinctively checked Abigail’s expression, seeing her still with a stern face. He then felt a surge of joy; clearly, Abigail couldn’t really be heartless.

Brandon happily got up from the sofa and lay on Abigail’s bed. After a while, seeing she hadn’t come over, he sincerely invited, "Abigail, aren’t you coming? It’s late, let’s sleep."

"No rush." Abigail, with her back to Brandon, calmly selected several silver needles, then turned and flashed a small smile at him.

Brandon found Abigail’s smile beautiful, but it inexplicably sent a chill down his spine.

Soon, Abigail had sterilized the silver needles and walked over to the bedside.

Brandon’s eyesight was perfect; he immediately saw what Abigail was holding. He jerked upright from the bed, only to fall back because of the pain from his wound, forcing a smile, "Abigail, is that really necessary?"

"Yes, it is." Abigail’s smile grew even brighter.

"Abigail, we can talk this over... Ugh..." Before Brandon could finish, Abigail kicked off her slippers and got onto the bed, kneeling on Brandon’s legs and inserted a needle in a point on his foot.

Brandon didn’t know how to describe the feeling. It wasn’t very painful, but it was itchy and numbing, extremely uncomfortable. He couldn’t help but shiver.

Despite seeing his reaction, Abigail continued to apply the needles without a care.

In no time, Brandon found himself covered in silver needles, his whole body weak and limp. Only his amber eyes darted around, watching the woman wreak havoc on him. She seemed to be enjoying herself, losing her earlier tension. Her smooth, white legs rested casually by his shoulders, close enough that he could kiss her toes if he turned his head.

Though she had slimmed down considerably, her toes were still excessively round, glowing milky white under the light, evenly proportioned, almost inviting him to play with them.

Brandon felt like a pervert in front of Abigail.

Abigail examined Brandon’s chest, probably stirred by the day’s research data. She suddenly felt an urge to practice and considered where to insert the next needle. Then she noticed the man’s bodily change, looked up, and her hand shook in shock, causing him to grunt.

That was it; she had missed the spot!
