Chapter 695: Old Master Pei Gets Angry

Chapter 695: Chapter 695: Old Master Pei Gets Angry

Abigail had a significant amount of money from the Piers’ dividends over the years, and after reconnecting with her grandfather, he had opened a new account for her with her previous savings. Combined, the amount was considerable.

But money alone was useless in Swallow City.

Her household registration was in Gills City, and she wasn’t eligible to buy a house in Swallow City. So after moving out of Moon Lake Manor, she could only rent a place.

Fortunately, Benjamin Jones was always efficient. By the time Abigail finished packing, he had already sent her several housing options to choose from.

Abigail looked through them and finally chose a small house with a garden near the Medical University. Although the rent was high, it provided more space for Teddy to grow up.

Of course, no matter how big, it couldn’t compare to Moon Lake Manor.

At this thought, Abigail felt a bit melancholy. She didn’t mind herself; as a doctor, she could sleep anywhere with just a bed. But Teddy... following her was incomparable to living with the Piers.

"I also like this one. I’ll have someone handle the procedures right away so we can move in tonight." As soon as Benjamin received Abigail’s response, he immediately made arrangements.

Two hours later, Benjamin’s car appeared outside Moon Lake Manor.

Aunt Claudia was holding Teddy, and Abigail was carrying two large suitcases filled mostly with Teddy’s things.

Housekeeper Piers saw this and quickly sent someone to help, but Abigail shook her head. "Thank you, Uncle Piers, but there’s no need. Aunt Claudia and I can handle it."

Kelly, holding Tate nearby, already knew the gist of the situation. Seeing Abigail and Aunt Claudia leave, she felt sad but didn’t know how to comfort them. The second young master had already officially announced his relationship with Miss Swift, making it very awkward for Abigail to stay.

But not staying, where could they go in this vast Swallow City?

"Auntie..." Kelly couldn’t bear to see Abigail go. Little Tate, sensing the adults’ tension, tugged gently at Abigail’s clothes and called out softly, "Auntie."

Abigail rubbed Tate’s little head and gave Kelly a faint smile. "Don’t worry. I’ve already found a place. Once I’m settled, I’ll let you know."

"Can’t you wait for the second young master to come back? Maybe it’s just a misunderstanding." Kelly mumbled, hoping Abigail would stay.

These days, taking care of Teddy, not only had she grown attached to him, but her little Tate had as well.

Abigail didn’t address Kelly’s words. Misunderstanding? There was no misunderstanding between them, only the choices he made.

Seeing Abigail avoid her question, Kelly knew it was useless to say more. She opened her mouth to speak, then swallowed the rest of her words.

Just then, Grandfather Piers, hearing the commotion, also came out. Seeing Abigail with her luggage, he understood immediately. "Abigail, why... why the rush? You won’t find a place to stay so quickly. I have a villa in the city. I’ve already had it prepared for you."

Although Grayson Piers had agreed to let Abigail take Teddy away, he didn’t expect her to leave today. But before he could finish, Abigail interrupted. "Grandfather Piers, there’s no need. I’ve already found a place."

"But..."

"Grandfather, don’t worry. I’ll take good care of Teddy." Abigail reassured him softly, knowing he was genuinely concerned about her.

Grandfather Piers shook his head. "I’m not worried about Teddy. I’m worried about you."

"I have Aunt Claudia. Please don’t worry." Abigail smiled. She knew his concern was genuine, but since she had made her decision, she decided it was best to leave quickly, avoiding conflicts with Eva Bell or Bertha Swift.

Either situation would be unacceptable for Abigail.

"That won’t do. How about I arrange some servants to take care of you?"

"Grandfather Piers." Abigail suddenly raised her voice a bit, calling out to him.

He stood stunned for a moment, realizing that what he was doing was inappropriate. Though Abigail had been staying at Moon Lake Manor and everyone called her "Young Mistress," she and Brandon hadn’t gotten a marriage certificate and weren’t legally married. Now that Brandon was marrying someone else, he had no right to interfere in her life.

With a sigh, he reluctantly said, "Then... Abigail... let me see you off."

"Thank you, Grandfather Piers." Abigail didn’t refuse, offering him her thanks.

Abigail speculated that Eva, still bitter about the two slaps, wouldn’t miss an opportunity to humiliate her but didn’t expect it to come so soon.

Abigail had just reached the entrance of Moon Lake Manor when she saw Eva, elegantly stepping out of a car in a qipao, her makeup flawless, no longer the disheveled mess of that day. Seeing her, Eva first froze, then, spotting her luggage, clutched her handbag with a satisfied smile.

"You do have self-awareness." Eva thought Abigail would cling to Brandon for a while but was surprised to see her leaving with her luggage. Looking down at her, the disdain and mockery in her eyes were obvious and she didn’t intend to let Abigail off so easily. Before Abigail could respond, Eva’s voice rose. "Are you really willing to run away like a drowned rat? If you beg me, maybe I will kindly give you the billion I promised."

Abigail ignored Eva, but Grandfather Piers looked disapprovingly at his daughter-in-law and turned to comfort Abigail. "Abigail, don’t mind her."

"I won’t." Abigail had cared about Eva because she was Brandon’s mother. Now that she didn’t want Brandon, what did his mother matter to her?

Grandfather Piers sensed Abigail’s sentiment, feeling deeply troubled. He turned and instructed Housekeeper Piers, "Thomas, please escort Mrs. Bell out. This is private property."

Eva, humiliated twice before Abigail, finally had a moment of triumph but hadn’t even started to savor it before the old man’s words cut in, visibly surprised that someone abandoned by the Piers could still be protected by him.

Stunned for a moment, Eva looked at Grayson Piers in disbelief. "Dad..."

"You’ve been divorced from Henry for over ten years, haven’t you?" The old man suddenly asked after hearing Eva’s "Dad."

Eva was stunned again. Although she had been divorced from Henry for over ten years, giving birth to a son and a daughter had made her a hero of the Piers family. Over the years, she had always enjoyed the status of the lady of the Piers household, and Grayson had always been lenient with her, being courteous in public and private.

Moreover, after Henry’s death, hardly anyone mentioned their divorce, and most people didn’t even know they’d gotten divorced. This was also why she could attend the Piers’ anniversary celebration and was sought after by everyone.

But now, the old man mentioned it outright and asked Thomas to escort her out.

She couldn’t accept it and anxiously stepped forward. "Dad..."

"Since you divorced Henry long ago, don’t call me Dad anymore. I’m just an old man with one foot in the grave who can’t bear it." Grayson Piers heard Eva call him Dad again and couldn’t bear it any longer.

Eva, becoming anxious, couldn’t believe what she was hearing from Grayson. "Are you treating me like this for that piece of rubbish Brandon dumped?"

Grayson almost collapsed from Eva’s comments. "Thomas."

"Mrs. Bell, please."
