Chapter 677: Being a Man Means Taking Responsibility
Chapter 677: Chapter 677: Being a Man Means Taking Responsibility
Adam Piers listened to Brandon Piers and chuckled sheepishly, "So, what do you mean, bro?"
"You’re not sincere enough." Brandon responded coldly with four brutal words.
Adam slumped onto the sofa, "Tell me, what sincerity do you want? At most, I’ll sell you five percent of my shares, not a penny more! I still need these to support myself for the rest of my life!"
He dropped his earlier sycophantic attitude and adopted a give-it-all-up demeanor.
"I heard Miss Swift was with you that night." Brandon’s statement was blunt.
Adam, upon hearing this, sat up straight in alarm, clutching his chest, "Bro, what are you planning?"
"Oh, just reminding you that a real man takes responsibility." Brandon shrugged.
Adam was on the verge of tears, "Why should I? She slept with me. She should be responsible!"
"Oh, I didn’t know you were the bottom, Adam. Then it’s even more appropriate that Miss Swift takes responsibility for you." Brandon replied solemnly.
Adam, "..." Did he just dig himself a hole?
"Adults don’t have to, don’t have to..." Adam stammered, thinking of the solid slap he received the morning after, waving his hand hurriedly, but halfway through, he met Brandon’s cold gaze and reluctantly conceded, "...Alright."
After all, he wasn’t planning to let that woman off the hook.
"The land in the east of the city is up for bid. I’m planning to build a new modern AI hospital there. Since you’re planning to join the company, you can take charge of this bidding project. If you succeed, you’re in; if you fail, continue being a dandy." Brandon’s voice was emotionless. He then turned to Kelvin Max, "Give him a copy of the materials."
As he said this, Brandon’s gaze landed on another document, "Give him this one as well."
"Yes." Kelvin, slightly surprised by the inclusion of the suburban document, complied and then turned to Adam, "Master Adam, shall I email them to you?"
"Huh? Oh, sure." Adam, still in a daze from the conversation, responded only after Kelvin’s prompt. Even then, his mind was blank, filled with bewilderment. What did this monster mean? The land in the east was highly sought after, with an estimated value of over five billion, a key project of the government, with many real estate developers eager to bid. And now, he was tasked with winning it to build a new hospital? Was Brandon making things difficult for him or... cultivating him?
Adam found himself pondering Brandon’s true intentions. The former didn’t make sense, but he found it hard to believe the latter. With a pair of amorous eyes staring at Brandon, it seemed to ask, "Are you kidding me?"
"Hmm?" Brandon glanced at his document and, noticing Adam hadn’t left, impatiently grunted.
Adam scratched his head sheepishly, "Do you think I can do it?"
"Oh, that’s a question for your woman." Brandon replied nonchalantly, lowering his head to continue his work.
Only staying Kelvin almost choked on his own saliva, gave his second master an incredulous look, and then turned suspicious eyes to Adam.
Adam’s face flushed with embarrassment. That monster wasted such an immortal-like face!
Kelvin watched Adam leave angrily and shook his head sympathetically. The second branch thought they could live off their BOSS easily, in their dreams.
...
Hospital.
Oliver Piers woke up an hour after the surgery, feeling something wrong with his body, "What’s wrong with me?"
"Dad, drink some water." Daniel Piers avoided the question and handed a cup to Oliver.
Oliver, sharp as ever, cast a cold glance at his son and turned to his wife, "What’s wrong with me?"
"Oliver..." The well-maintained older lady’s eyes reddened instantly at her husband’s question, calling out to him in pain.
Oliver’s heart sank, and he tried to get up, only to find he couldn’t. His left hand was out of control, fingers bent unnaturally upwards. Attempts to raise his left leg were futile.
His square face turned terrifyingly grim, staring at his wife and son, "What’s wrong with my left hand and leg? Speak!"
"Dad, don’t worry. The doctor said it’s a stroke aftereffect, but modern medicine can surely treat it." Daniel tried to comfort his father.
But Oliver did not find solace, realizing the gravity of the situation, "Are you saying my left side is paralyzed from the stroke?"
"Dad, let me explain..." Daniel began.
"Impossible!" Oliver roared before Daniel could finish. How could he be paralyzed? He knew his own body. Though he lost his temper today and lost his mind, paralysis was unthinkable.
"Honey, calm down. Daniel said it’s treatable, but you need to stay calm now." His wife, with teary eyes, tried to soothe him.
But Oliver wouldn’t listen. At the cusp of taking over Piers, how could this happen? How!
Decades of meticulous planning, finally on the verge of becoming the chairman of Piers and occupying the coveted position, how could it fail, and he become paralyzed!
"It must be Brandon Piers, that monster! He must have done this to me..." Overcome with anger, Oliver trembled all over.
His wife, frightened, rushed to call the doctor.
Oliver took a long time to calm down, looking at his pale son, "What’s the company situation now?"
"Dad, for now, focus on your health. I’ll handle everything else." Daniel didn’t want his father to worry.
Oliver, unwilling to rest, couldn’t stand the thought of losing to a young brat so miserably. He felt Daniel was merely humoring him and responded coldly, "Did the people Eva found arrive in Swallow City?"
"Yes, they’re here, and they’ll act within the next two days." A complex expression flashed across Daniel’s refined face as he spoke.
"Get someone to help them. I need good news soon." Oliver stated coldly. He was eager to see Brandon in tears.
That ignorant youngster thought he had won Piers, but Oliver still had ways to deal with him. He regretted not being harsher earlier.
Daniel nodded, fully understanding his father’s intention, "Don’t worry. Everything is arranged. It won’t lead back to us."
"It better be." Oliver fell silent as the room door opened. He clenched his teeth at his immobile left side, wishing he could rip Brandon apart.
Daniel silently left the room after the doctor entered. Just then, he received a message from a subordinate, "Everything’s going smoothly."
Despite the update, there wasn’t much joy on Daniel’s face. Instead, a cloud of gloom overshadowed his usually gentle and refined demeanor.
Meanwhile, a lean middle-aged man got off a medical waste truck and casually sorted the garbage, glancing towards the academic building. He kept working, appearing so ordinary that no one would spare him another glance. But such a man, hidden in the darkness like a predatory beast, awaited to strike fatally at its prey.
