Reborn As Mr. Coldwell's Wife
Chapter 129: Lunch With Him

Chapter 129: Lunch With Him

The memory of the welcome kiss she gave Mason last night was still fresh, making her giggle. She could’ve sworn he kissed her back too.

"What came over me?" she ask herself while packing the lunch box, arranging everything how she hoped Mason would like it. They had agreed to have lunch together, but what he didn’t know was that Ellen had prepared this special meal.

After double-checking everything, she glanced at the clock. It was almost lunchtime. Perfect timing. Smiling to herself, Ellen grabbed the neatly packed lunch box and placed it into a small, elegant bag.

The drive to Mason’s office wasn’t long, and once she arrived at the office, Ellen didn’t need to check in with the receptionist anymore. She knew her way around the building by now, and the staff knew her too. As she walked through the lobby, several employees greeted her with warm smiles, and a few called out, "Good afternoon, Mrs. Coldwell!"

She responded with a friendly nod and a cheerful "Hello!" in return, her heart lifting at the familiarity. There was something about being called "Mrs. Coldwell" that filled her with pride. She happily swung the bag containing the lunch box by her side, her steps light and quick as she made her way to Mason’s floor.

When she got to Mason’s floor, she walked by Philip, sitting at his desk. He seemed absorbed in his phone, a slight frown creasing his forehead.

As soon as he noticed Ellen approaching, Philip quickly started to rise from his seat, but Ellen waved him down with a gentle hand gesture, signaling that it was fine. She lifted the lunch box bag slightly, pointing toward Mason’s office door with a smile. Understanding immediately, Philip grinned and gave her a thumbs-up before refocusing on his phone.

Ellen walked up to the door of Mason’s office, her fingers wrapping gently around the handle. She gave the door a soft knock, not waiting too long before opening it.

Inside, she found Mason, as expected, immersed in his work. His desk was scattered with papers, and he sat there, leaning slightly over them, his brows furrowed in concentration. His shirt sleeves were rolled up to his elbows, and his tie was slightly loosened.

"Mr. Coldwell," she greeted playfully as she stepped into the room, her voice light and teasing. She stood by the door, a small, mischievous smile tugging at her lips as she waited for Mason to look up from his papers.

Mason glanced up briefly from the pile of documents spread across his desk. His eyes flickered to her for just a second before returning to the papers. "Oh, you came," he said absentmindedly. It was clear his mind was still on the work in front of him.

Ellen’s playful expression faltered, and she pouted dramatically, stepping further into the room and closing the door behind her with a soft click. "Of course I came," she said, feigning offense. "You didn’t think I was serious?"

Mason leaned back in his chair as he finally gave her his full attention. "I thought you were joking when you said you wanted to have lunch here," he replied.

Ellen crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow, walking toward him with an exaggerated huff. "Well, I wasn’t joking," she replied, her pout deepening for effect. "I told you, I wanted to have lunch together."

Mason stood up from his chair, stretching slightly as he loosened his tie. "Where do you want to grab lunch?" he asked, his tone more relaxed now that he was away from his desk.

Instead of answering, Ellen made her way over to the leather couch by the window. She gracefully sat down and placed the bag containing their lunch on the table in front of her. "Right here," she said, patting the spot beside her. "I prepared everything."

Mason watched her for a moment, his gaze lingering on both Ellen and the bag before he walked over and joined her on the couch. He sat down with a sigh, his body language showing that he was grateful for the break, even if his mind was still partially on work.

"You really prepared this?" he asked as he glanced at the bag.

Ellen gave him a playful glare. "No, I asked Helga to do it," she deadpanned, rolling her eyes. "Of course it’s me, who else?" Ellen began unpacking the lunch, setting out the neatly wrapped chicken wraps, salad, and cookies with care. As she did, her smile softened. "I thought it’d be nicer to eat something homemade rather than going out. It’s healthier, and you need more homemade meals."

She handed him one of the wraps, and they began to eat together, the quiet between them was peaceful, but it didn’t last long, though.

Just a few minutes into their meal, Mason’s phone buzzed loudly in his pocket. He frowned, pulling the phone out and glancing at the screen. For a moment, he hesitated, his thumb hovering over the screen before he sighed and tossed the phone onto the couch beside him, letting it fall with a soft thud.

Ellen caught the quick change in his mood and the way he had thrown the phone aside. Her eyes flicked toward it, but she said nothing, biting back her curiosity. She took another bite of her wrap.

A few moments later, the phone rang again, its persistent vibration cutting through the quiet once more. Ellen’s eyes darted toward it, and this time, she couldn’t help but speak up. "Maybe you should answer that," she said softly.

Mason didn’t move. "Let it be."

Ellen frowned slightly, her concern deepening. "But what if it’s important?" she insisted gently. "You should check."

A smirk playing on his lips, a mischievous glint in his eyes. He glanced at Ellen, his expression almost teasing. "Fine, but I hope you won’t regret it."

Ellen blinked, confusion washing over her. She tilted her head, unsure of what he meant. "What do you mean?" she asked, a hint of suspicion creeping into her voice.

Mason didn’t answer right away. Instead, he reached for his phone, the smirk still firmly in place. He swiped the screen and brought it to his ear. Ellen watched him, her mind racing as she tried to figure out what was going on.

And then, Mason’s voice cut through the air, smooth and casual. "Hello, Aubrey."
