Chapter 571: Chapter 571 Discovered

Upon hearing Wang Biao’s words, several of the more timid immediately felt their legs go weak.

"Brother Biao, I... I can’t do this kind of thing."

"Ordinary mischief is one thing, but stealing guns definitely means doing time."

"Otherwise, let’s just go back. I admit I’m a coward."

Although they were all petty gangsters, some of them knew the gravity of the situation and were mixed with a fear of soldiers.

If they were discovered, who knows if the soldiers would just start shooting on the spot.

Then their lives would really be forfeited right here.

A short man thought about leaving.

Just as he lifted his foot, he felt a strong force on his back, and he was kicked to the ground.

Wang Biao stepped on him, his voice fierce: "Thinking of leaving now? Too late!"

"Brother Biao, I really don’t dare to do it," the subordinate wailed as Wang Biao stamped on him hard.

"Alright then, once I get the guns, your family will be the first I’ll kill as the price for your betrayal!"

The man was immediately terrified upon hearing this.

Wang Biao had a reputation for being ruthless; he’d even turn on his own relatives, so who knew whether he’d really seek revenge on them or not.

A young man who had been shifty-eyed and silent suddenly spoke up.

"I’ve grown tired of playing those ordinary games. Why can’t we do something big following Brother Biao, like in the movies? I’m not talking about killing people or robbing banks, but we could at least hit a few gold shops or something, right? Just one big score, and we wouldn’t have to worry about eating and drinking for the rest of our lives."

Cop and robber movies had been popular for over a decade, and recently, many films were made from the "thief’s" perspective.

Many young people watched with blood boiling, dreaming of making a name and a fortune for themselves.

Especially those scenes of random gunfire in shootouts seemed to awaken the criminal element in their blood.

With intimidation and the allure of great reward, no one dared leave.

Only then did Wang Biao feel satisfied, pulling the short man up from the ground.

He dusted him off, "Stick with Brother Biao, and you won’t lose out."

The short man felt a burning pain in his back as he nodded tremblingly.

They continued on, moving much quicker than before.

Soon enough, under Wang Biao’s lead, they really did see the outline of the base.

Although in the darkness, they could only vaguely make out the contour of a perimeter wall.

"Brother Biao, I’ve heard there are sentries inside, how are we going to get past?"

Wang Biao thought for a moment, "Circle to the back and climb the wall. I’ve been here during the day a couple of times--never daring to get too close--only figuring out that the front seems to be a training field; I guess the dorms and stuff must be at the back."

His plan was simple: just to sneak in and get his hands on a real gun.

In fact, Wang Biao himself was a bit baffled by this sudden impulse. How had this idea come to him?

It seemed to have just appeared out of nowhere.

"Brother Biao? Should we climb over from this side?"

The subordinate’s words interrupted Wang Biao’s train of thought.

On closer inspection, they realized the wall was higher than they had expected; it was impossible for one person to climb over without help.

Wang Biao called over the short man, "You crouch down here."

Enduring the discomfort, the short man served as a makeshift stool, allowing Wang Biao to awkwardly climb on top.

Wang Biao wasn’t light, pressing hard enough to make the short man’s chest crackle.

The short man clenched his teeth hard, and finally, Wang Biao managed to grip the edge of the wall.

Wang Biao slowly sat atop the wall, took off his shoes and held them in hand, and then jumped down.

Though the soles of his feet were incredibly sore, at least the landing was nearly silent.

The others followed, each stepping on the short man to climb up, then grimacing painfully as they too landed.

Only the short man was left on the other side of the wall, and Wang Biao’s closest subordinate instructed him.

"You stay here on the lookout; signal us if anyone comes."

The short man nodded in agreement, his voice barely a whisper.

The back wasn’t a dormitory but seemed more like a dining hall or something similar.

Wang Biao was skeptical whether this place would yield what they wanted.

But having come this far, he didn’t want to return empty-handed, so they had to keep moving inward.

Just then, a flashlight beam swept fiercely toward them.

"Who’s that? Which unit are you from?"
