Chapter 284: The Experienced Driver Leads the Way

Chapter 284: Chapter 284: The Experienced Driver Leads the Way

These days, as long as people had enough to eat and wear, they didn’t fuss too much.

Generally, after a house was built, folks would simply fill it with some furniture, and move right in.

Rarely did they, like future generations, agonize for months over meticulously crafted interior design plans.

But the Yue family was doing fairly well, at least Yue Jiannan had taken the trouble to ask his family about their preferences before heading into the city with Yue Qingqing.

The responses he received were varied.

Yue Jiandong, "I’d like something modern, oh and get a small tea table for the telephone. I’ve arranged everything, once we move in they’ll come to install the phone."

Zhang Ying, "My room can be simple, but Qingqing and Xingxing’s must be pretty, preferably pink. I heard that all the young girls in the city like that color."

Lin Chunju, "What style? Anyway, Mother doesn’t like anything too flashy, the best would be like the old house we used to live in, with an antique feel."

Yue Xingxing, "Uncle, I want a bookshelf, a short one, just high enough for me to reach."

Recording everyone’s diverse requests on paper, Yue Jiannan felt like he was going bald from the stress.

The worst was Yue Xiaofang, who at first said anything was fine and to let Yue Jiannan decide. Then she handed him a drawing, detailing exactly what color furniture to buy and where to place it.

It looked like all Yue Jiannan had to do was follow the plan, but where to find such suitable items?

Armed with a few flimsy lists, Yue Jiannan set out on his important mission with Yue Qingqing.

After entering the city, he first asked a pedicab driver for directions.

Typically, these drivers roamed the streets and alleys and were very familiar with every corner of the city.

The man glanced at Yue Jiannan and patted the seat.

"Get in!"

Yue Jiannan, carrying Qingqing, climbed into the pedicab.

When they arrived, they found the man hadn’t deceived them, it was a whole street selling building materials and furniture.

The driver advised Yue Jiannan, "They see you’re green and easy to overcharge, so don’t make a peep after asking for the price. Compare several shops, right, and they usually deliver as long as you pay upfront."

After the advice, the driver pedaled away on his pedicab, concealing his expertise and fame.

Perhaps this is what they call an old hand.

With an entire street to choose from, Yue Jiannan felt much more confident as he started his search.

This street had not only factory-made new furniture but also carpenter-customized pieces and reasonably-priced second-hand furniture.

A dazzling array, free for the picking.

Whether your wallet was bulging or modest, there was always a shop where you could spend your money.

Yue Jiannan headed straight for the branded furniture stores.

After all, custom carpentry took too long, and his family couldn’t wait.

Yue Jiannan also looked down on pre-owned furniture.

Since the Yue family’s circumstances had improved and their house was newly bought, there was no need to thrift and reminisce over hardships.

Most of the salespeople, seeing that Yue Jiannan was young and accompanied by a little tot, didn’t believe he was serious about buying and were lukewarm in their welcome.

But some were exuberant, praising their furniture to the high heavens.

Yue Jiannan remembered the pedicab driver’s advice, to look more and talk less, and kept the prices in mind.

After making a couple of rounds and forming a budget in his mind, Yue Jiannan marked a few shops on his list.

He planned to go straight to his destination to finalize the deal.

After walking just a few steps, he turned around to check. Where was his little niece?

Yue Jiannan was terrified, his back instantly soaked with cold sweat.

"Qingqing!" He didn’t care about the surprised stares of passersby as he shouted.

"Uncle, I’m here."

A small head, full of guilt, peeked out from a shop not far away.

Yue Jiannan patted his chest and quickly headed towards the shop.

Looking up.

Hm? Why was it a second-hand furniture store?
