Pei Huaian understood the importance of this surgery and knew that Shao He must not be disturbed during the operation. With the two people he most wanted to protect in there, he would not let anyone step inside, even if it cost him his life.

The Empress Dowager, still somewhat worried, tried to pull on Shao He’s hand and say something more as she was leaving, but Shao He bowed and reassured, “Your Highness can rest assured, this commoner girl will give her all to heal the Emperor.”

“Good, good,” was all the Empress Dowager could say as she looked back three steps at a time, leaving the room, and everyone else left as well.

Pei Huaian gazed deeply at Shao He, saying nothing, but his eyes conveyed too many emotions.

Qingxia helped Shao He put on her clothes and donned her own sterile suit, with all the surgical tools ready.

Pei Siyang looked down at his leg and his eyes radiated a firm light, “It will.”

Shao He had given him the confidence to stand up; she could certainly heal their father.

As time ticked by, the crowd grew anxious. They attempted to approach several times, but seeing Pei Huaian’s expression and the sword in his hand, they ultimately stood still.

No one had forgotten the Emperor’s words: anyone who dared to intrude could be lawfully killed on the spot.

Finally, the door behind them creaked open. Shao He, looking weary, stepped out and took deep breaths of the fresh air outside.
