Chapter 289 - Chapter 289 Chapter 290 Are You Satisfied Now
Chapter 289: Chapter 290 Are You Satisfied Now? Chapter 289: Chapter 290 Are You Satisfied Now? The Emperor looked at the evidence in his hand, growing angrier as he read. He never expected Pei Chengye to be so audacious, his whole body trembling with rage.
Seeing this, the eunuch immediately went over to help calm him down.
The other ministers were also frightened, each anxiously looking up to observe the Emperor’s condition.
Pei Chengye glared fiercely at Pei Jingyi, “Look how angry you’ve made our father. Are you satisfied now?”
“That’s not right to say, Second Imperial Brother. If it weren’t for your actions, our father would not have been angered. Ultimately, everything is your fault.”
The two were still arguing incessantly. Pei Huaian, anxious, watched the Emperor and, hearing the buzzing of conversations, turned his head and shouted sternly, “Is this ever going to end? The Emperor is already in this condition, and you still have the face to argue about what caused it!”
The Emperor, frail, waved his hand, allowing the eunuch to support him and leave the court.
Pei Huaian, Pei Chengye, and Pei Jingyi followed him, while the Empress rushed over upon hearing the news.
Upon entering the Emperor’s bedroom and seeing the three standing there, she shot them a cold look and without saying much, went straight inside.
Seeing the Imperial Physician taking the Emperor’s pulse, she asked with concern, “How is the Emperor?”
The physician withdrew his hand, turned and bowed to the Empress, “Greetings to your majesty, the Empress.”
The Empress waved her hand and, sitting beside the bed, asked again, “How is he now? Why has he suddenly become like this?”
The physician bowed and said, “The Emperor has been angered, that’s why he is in this condition.”
Upon hearing this, the Empress turned to the eunuch and asked, “When did the Emperor get so angered?”
The eunuch briefly recounted the events in the court, and a flicker of panic crossed the Empress’s eyes, well-concealed so no one noticed.
“Rising to her feet, she came before the three men, looked at them sharply and said, “You are truly causing your father no peace, to have angered him into this condition.”
“Summon the guards, drag these three princes down and beat each with twenty heavy boards!”
The eunuch, shocked by the Empress’s decision, stood dazed for a moment, unsure of what to do.
Pei Huaian, knowing the Empress’s way of punishment, realized the boards would carry different weights when applied to them, and he pondered how to stall on the pretext of being injured.
Suddenly, the Emperor’s roar came from inside the room, “Stop! No, no…”
A “snap” sound followed, as the sound of a medicine bowl hitting the floor echoed immediately after.
Everyone hurried inside, only to see the Emperor, who had suddenly knocked over his medicine bowl while drinking. Noticing his crooked mouth and some symptoms of facial paralysis, they immediately approached in concern and asked, “Your Majesty, are you all right?”
“Father, what happened to you?” Pei Chengye also pushed his way forward in concern.
The Emperor looked at them, wanting to raise his hand, but finding himself completely weak, could only produce a choked sound from his throat.
“You, you all…”
The Empress grasped his hand, saying with deep emotion, “Your Majesty, do not speak anymore. I won’t punish them, please don’t get agitated!”
Standing at the back, Pei Huaian turned and ran out of the imperial palace, then rode his horse at a gallop to Anji Hall, grabbed the man who was still seeing patients, and rushed outside.
Shao He wanted to ask him what had happened, but seeing his anxious face, she stopped herself.
She trusted that Pei Huaian wouldn’t harm her and that something important must have occurred.
Pei Huaian, carrying her on horseback at a gallop, caused onlookers to make way as he kept shouting loudly, “Make way, make way for us!”
The two were pressed tightly together. Shao He’s heart pounded nervously, not because of the close contact with Pei Huaian but because she was scared of horse-riding, which she had never experienced before.
When they arrived at the palace gate, Shao He’s face was so pale it was scary. After dismounting, her legs were so weak she nearly collapsed.
Fortunately, Pei Huaian quickly reached out to support her and noticed her pale face. He anxiously asked, “Are you all right?”
“No, I’m fine,” Shao He shook her head, managing a weak smile.
Even without medical knowledge, Pei Huaian knew she was feeling unwell, but with his father’s crisis, he couldn’t trust anyone but Shao He.
Shao He tried to stand straight yet found her legs completely devoid of strength, relying on Pei Huaian for support.
“Are you really okay?!”
Pei Huaian’s gentle voice reached Shao He’s ears. She bit her lip, looked up at him and said, “My legs are a bit weak.”
She was afraid of nothing, except horse-riding terrified her immensely.
Pei Huaian’s mouth curved, and he wrapped his arm around Shao He’s slender waist. Then he bent down and swept her up into a princess carry.
“Ah!”
The sudden feeling of being lifted made her involuntarily scream, instinctively wrapping her arms around Pei Huaian’s neck.
“Don’t be scared, I won’t drop you,” his deep, resonant voice said from above her, sending Shao He into a daze.
Pei Huaian glanced down at her, “Don’t be nervous, the situation with the Emperor is critical. We can’t afford to waste much time, so I had to resort to this.”
Shao He felt as if the surroundings had become exceptionally quiet, as if even the wind had disappeared, leaving only their intermingled breaths.
