Reborn As Divine Doctor to Rule the World -
Chapter 265 - Chapter 265 Chapter 266 Unwilling to Marry
Chapter 265: Chapter 266 Unwilling to Marry Chapter 265: Chapter 266 Unwilling to Marry The Emperor took the teacup and drank it all in one gulp.
“Am I truly alright now?” the Emperor asked, looking at Shao He with doubt.
Shao He firmly said, “Your Majesty is blessed by heaven, so the brain tumor is benign. You do not need surgery, but only need to continue taking the herbal medicine to recover quickly.”
Just as Shao He finished speaking, a eunuch reported from outside the door, “Your Majesty, the Empress, the Second Prince, and the Fifth Prince have all arrived and are waiting outside.”
The Emperor put down the teacup and said, “Announce them!”
The Empress entered the Imperial Study Room with the Second Prince and the Fifth Prince, each taking their seats to the sides after paying their respects.
Shao He sat at the far end, quite distant from the Princes.
However, Pei Chengye specifically ran in front of Shao He while serving tea, “You do not like strong tea, so how about I drink this cup for you?”
Without waiting for Shao He’s consent, he took the teacup and walked away.
Pei Huaian watched his actions, his eyes lowered and his hands slowly clenched on his lap, it seemed the past incident hadn’t taught him a lesson.
Indeed, the reprimand was too light!
The reason Pei Chengye did this was to show his closeness with Shao He in front of the Emperor.
“No need, how could a commoner girl refuse the tea bestowed by His Majesty? There is no need for the Second Prince’s trouble,” Shao He directly reached out to avoid the teacup.
Such a polite yet distant refusal was clear to everyone, but the Second Prince seemed completely deaf to it, actually having someone add a stool next to her.
This made the Emperor slightly smile, the Empress saw the Emperor’s gaze on the two and secretly rejoiced, feeling that this affair might have potential.
The Emperor thought highly of Shao He’s medical skills. If this woman could marry his son, it wouldn’t be a bad thing.
“Doctor Shao, as a woman raising a child, have you never considered finding another husband?” the Emperor asked in a tactful manner.
Pei Chengye was overjoyed at hearing this.
He knew his father approved of his actions, and was even more certain Shao He would marry him.
Pei Huaian was about to respond with a sneer, but Shao He stood up, bowed, and said, “Replying to Your Majesty, the commoner girl has no thoughts of finding a husband at present.”
This straightforward refusal made the already joyful smiles of the Empress and Pei Chengye stiffen.
The Empress, though smiling, felt frustrated inside and said, “Doctor Shao, it is not easy raising a child alone. If you could find a husband to rely on, perhaps it would lessen your burden. Why be so stubborn, or could it be that you can’t even make your own decision to marry?”
“Or are you saying you do not even consider the Second Prince a match?” There was a hint of threat in the Empress’s tone.
Shao He looked back fearlessly, her eyes sincere as she said, “Replying to Your Majesty, the commoner girl is not being stubborn, I just do not wish to marry at the moment.”
“So it is,” the Empress’s eyes flashed, her expression changing unpredictably.
Pei Chengye’s face also showed a hurt expression; he couldn’t believe Shao He would resist men so stubbornly.
The Emperor raised an eyebrow at Shao He.
Seeing their disbelief, Shao He clenched her teeth and, in a burst of resolve, said, “The commoner girl truly does not wish to marry and can’t involve the Second Prince because of this. I hope His Majesty and the Empress can understand.”
After speaking, she knelt down, earnestly kowtowing to show her gratitude for the Emperor’s kindness.
The Emperor seeing this, didn’t insist further and waved his hand, “Since Doctor Shao is unwilling, let us drop the matter.”
This made the Empress and Pei Chengye beside him quite upset, but since the Emperor had spoken thus, they couldn’t well object.
The Emperor turned to look at someone who had been silently drinking tea at the side and spoke discontentedly, “When will you bring the person you like to meet me? You must not remain under house arrest without any progress, should you?”
This statement shocked the three people present, none of them expected that he would use this way to lift the house arrest.
“Rest assured, Father, just inform the Imperial Household Department to prepare the betrothal gifts. Your son will definitely bring someone back to meet you, and I guarantee you will be very pleased,” Pei Huaian said to the Emperor, his lips curling into a mysterious smile.
Seeing this, the Empress’s eyes reflected a complex gaze, and she asked smilingly, “The woman who has won your affection must be no ordinary person. May I know who this fortunate lady is?”
Seeing the eagerly inquiring faces, Pei Huaian replied nonchalantly, “Mother, you will soon be informed of this matter, why the rush at this moment?”
The Empress felt a vague unease and managed a strained smile, continuing, “Your mother simply wants to check for you. If it really isn’t feasible, I will have nanny personally go to propose marriage for you.”
“This matter needs no trouble from Mother. If we speak of sincerity, it would be better for your son to bring the betrothal gifts himself. This would truly show my sincerity,” he replied.
The smile could no longer hold on the Empress’s face as she forced a cheerful tone, “Alright, I won’t press you on this matter, but marriage is a serious affair; you must still consider it carefully.”
“Your son understands.”
Shao He stood to the side with her head lowered, her face showing no change, as if the recent matters didn’t concern her.
The Emperor’s gaze once again rested on Shao He, and he asked, “I heard that you performed a successful craniotomy a few days ago, is that true or false?”
“I dare not deceive Your Majesty, it is true.”
“That person…”
“The craniotomy was very successful, and Master Wan should currently be recuperating at his residence,” Shao He replied respectfully but firmly.
