“What did you just say?” Taurus stood up, stunned. He had just logged in early for a scheduled meeting.

“Young Master Zhang, the auction house has officially been seized!” the man blurted out, flustered.

“Let’s go take a look!” Taurus’ expression darkened as he turned to S.K.Y. nearby.

S.K.Y. gave a firm nod, his face serious.

Without wasting a second, the trio left the Adventurers’ Guild and hurried toward the Imperial Auction House.

A crowd had already gathered, watching the chaos unfold. Several soldiers were stationed at the building’s entrance, busily sealing the area. Sure enough, Taurus saw the entire perimeter covered in bright red official seals. There was no doubt. The auction house had been seized.

“My ten million!” Taurus clenched his fists, anguish twisting his face. With the auction house shut down, his VIP privileges were nullified—and all the money he invested was gone.

“My five million!” another voice cried out nearby.

Taurus looked over and recognized the Guild Master of [Archangel], one of the top ten guilds in the Linhnan server, shouting in despair.

Moments later, more anguished voices erupted from the crowd. Every single one of them had poured money into the Imperial Auction House for VIP access. But now, with the place seized, all of it had vanished into thin air.

“Wait, I remember something!” a Level 20 Warrior suddenly shouted. His voice cut through the noise and turned all heads toward him. “Two days ago, they were holding constant clearance sales. That must mean they knew this was coming!”

The moment he said it, the crowd collectively came to a realization.

“I knew something was off. They were acting strange yesterday afternoon!”

“Yeah, now that I think about it, it really was suspicious!”

“Good thing I didn’t buy a VIP pass. I’d be broke by now!”

“Heh, a bunch of fools wasted their money. Their pain is my entertainment!”

“Hahaha! Those rich morons had it coming!”

“They were so smug before. Look at them now—totally scammed!”

“Hahahaha… burp!”

The crowd erupted in a wave of mockery and laughter.

Hearing all this, Taurus turned red with embarrassment. He had even bragged about his VIP status to Vanessa not long ago. Now, he was the biggest joke in the room—after all, he had lost the most.

Humiliation burned through him, soon replaced by seething rage. His fury was directed squarely at the auction house. And if he ever found out that the Black-hearted Princess—the person he hated most—was one of the owners, he would no doubt explode on the spot.

‘Serves you right for showing off,’ S.K.Y. sneered inwardly.

A dull headache began to creep in. With the auction house gone, gathering materials in the future would be a major hassle. It meant wasting time on things that used to take minutes.

‘Luckily, our current stockpile should last until we’re strong enough to hunt down that Black-hearted Princess. Once she’s dead, our resource problems will vanish.’ S.K.Y. adjusted imaginary gold-rimmed glasses and allowed a smirk to form.

At that moment, Taurus glanced over and grew even more furious. To him, that smirk looked like pure mockery. “What the hell are you smiling at?”

A sharp slap landed across S.K.Y.’s cheek, leaving a vivid red mark. S.K.Y. stood frozen, blinking. He glanced at Taurus’ raised hand, then touched his stinging cheek. The sting in his cheek made everything clear. He had been slapped. Hard.

And there was no mistaking who had done it—Taurus.

A dark shadow passed over S.K.Y.’s eyes. A primal, murderous urge rose from deep within him. He wanted to rip Taurus apart. Not just once—he wanted to kill him over and over.

The atmosphere shifted. The air grew heavy as the crowd fell into stunned silence.

Seeing the change in S.K.Y.’s demeanor, Taurus instinctively stepped back. A chill ran down his spine. In that instant, Taurus didn’t see a man—he saw a wild beast ready to strike.

S.K.Y. stepped forward, his right hand darting out like a viper. Just as the crowd braced for violence, the hand stopped mid-air. S.K.Y. gently placed it on Taurus’ shoulder. “Young Master Zhang, that slap… was just what I needed. It cleared my head,” S.K.Y. said with a calm smile.

The crowd looked on in disbelief. Was he insane? He’d just been slapped in public, and now he was thanking the guy? It was madness.

But after thinking it through, they realized it wasn’t all that strange. After all, Taurus was S.K.Y.’s financial lifeline. Who would bite the hand that fed them, even if that hand slapped them?

Anyone who’d worked in the real world could relate. Life rarely played fair. Most had no choice but to grin and bear it.

And in that moment, more than a few of them envied the Black-hearted Princess. She feared no one, offended everyone, and never bowed to power. Wasn’t that the kind of person they all secretly wanted to be?

But there was only one like her.

Taurus looked at S.K.Y., his face pale, but the fear slowly faded. A few seconds later, he composed himself and muttered, “S.K.Y., I didn’t mean it. Let’s forget it.” But the words lacked sincerity.

‘Hmph. You're just a rabid dog waiting to bite.’

“It’s fine. Really, I don’t mind,” S.K.Y. said with a smile. His tone was just as casual as Taurus'.

‘One day, you’ll pay for that slap with your life.'

From that moment on, their relationship was shattered beyond repair.

At that very moment, Yaeger reappeared in the same spot where she had logged off the night before.

Her shopping trip had ended up taking far longer than she anticipated. Her home was now stocked with three gleaming, three-door refrigerators, all packed to the brim with ingredients.

‘This isn’t sustainable. At this rate, all my money will get devoured—literally.'

She still had some money left, but with the looming cost of restoring the [City of Chaos], her finances were under serious pressure. With the Imperial Auction House out of commission, her cash flow had nearly dried up. Tightening her expenses was now a necessity.

“Once I crush the Jade Empire, everything will get easier,” Yaeger said with a sigh, her eyes drifting back toward Jade City. “For now, I’ll have to put Allie’s treatment on hold. Life really knows how to mess with people.”

Turning away, she pushed off with her toes and dashed toward the Imperial Docks. If the plague wasn’t brought under control, then even if she and Alicia succeeded in the uprising, all they'd gain was a broken empire.

It took her about twenty minutes of nonstop running to reach the edge of the Imperial Docks. She was cloaked in black, her face covered by a mask. Without her name tag, no one would have the slightest clue who she was.

‘This place is out of the way… and with the plague spreading, it’s unlikely any players would risk coming here.' She scanned the area. There weren’t just no players—there wasn’t a single soul around.

Normally, this place would be bustling with workers and NPCs at this hour. Now though, it was deathly quiet.

‘This is worse than I thought… much worse.' Biting her lip, Yaeger turned her gaze toward Aoma Village—the place where Angelica lived.
