Reborn as a Rich Woman in the Eighties -
Chapter 218 - 217: Indifference
Chapter 218: Chapter 217: Indifference
Mrs. Zhao was also aware that they believed it was Xu Haihua who told Lin Xia’s family about that matter, but there was no actual evidence, just speculation;
If she confronted Xu Haihua in person, even if it had been her doing, she would definitely refuse to admit it. That would only bring more trouble to Xiaolin, so it was better to let things be for the time being.
Moreover, she had a relatively good relationship with Xu Haihua’s mother, Shuxiang, and with so many other neighbors around, she couldn’t speak too harshly.
She took a deep breath before saying, "My second child has finally come home. He needs to rest early! I’ll go inside and talk to them in a bit!"
As soon as Xu Haihua heard Mrs. Zhao say this, she couldn’t face staying any longer despite wanting to, "In that case, I should head home first!" She reluctantly made her way out of Mrs. Zhao’s front door, looking back three times with each step.
Mrs. Zhao watched the front gate and sighed. Initially, she didn’t see Xu Haihua as having too many ill intentions, but who could have imagined? People really can be...
Xu Haihua returned home feeling aggrieved; Xu Danni was there alone. When she saw the look on her daughter’s face, she guessed something had happened, perhaps it was...
"What happened to you now?"
Xu Haihua plopped down on the edge of the kang, "Mom! Nothing happened! Let’s get a TV for our home!" She didn’t dare tell her mom about being driven out of Mingyuan’s house for fear of yet another lecture.
That thought had emerged as she returned, considering Mrs. Zhao’s treatment of her. She decided she wouldn’t go there anymore.
After all, it wasn’t often that Mingyuan came back. She planned to find a chance to visit his stall later.
She was rather curious. Didn’t the people in Lin Xia’s family ever confront her to settle accounts? It didn’t make sense. But she couldn’t just ask anyone about it.
She could only beat around the bush and inquire through her brother, Xu Haimin, as behind their backs, she had stirred up trouble.
Xu Danni had actually considered buying a television a while ago but hesitated because her son wasn’t married yet. How could they buy a new one when he married, given their financial constraints?
But seeing her daughter’s incessant trips to the back courtyard, which she couldn’t stop, she hardened her heart and thought they might as well buy it now, especially since her son didn’t even have a girlfriend yet. They could worry about the future later.
"Let’s wait for your brother to come home and see what he thinks!" This matter also depended on her son’s opinion.
Upon hearing this, Xu Haihua’s spirits lifted, and she smiled happily, "Mom! My brother will definitely agree! I have the day off tomorrow, let’s go to the city together and buy the TV!"
...
The next day, Lin Xia ate breakfast early and then went out to set up the stall with Lin Dong.
Just after setting up, Mingyuan arrived with a cloth bag in hand.
Lin Xia smiled and asked, "Big Brother! What brings you here so early?" She thought he would have slept in a bit since he had just gone back home.
Mingyuan also smiled, "It’s not really early! There’s nothing much to do at home!"
He actually left home not too late, but today, since all the factories and units had a holiday, everyone thought of shopping and strolling in the city. So the buses from his home to the city were overcrowded, and he had waited quite a while to squeeze onto one.
Mingyuan entered the stall and handed the cloth bag to Lin Dong nearby, "This is the pickled garlic sugar that my mom sent for you guys!"
That morning, his mom had pondered for a long time on what to bring to Lin Xia’s family and finally decided on her homemade pickled garlic sugar, which many praised as delicious.
Lin Dong received it with joy, "Big Brother! Auntie’s pickles are always delicious! We all like your pickled garlic sugar, but unfortunately, when it was the season to make it this year, we were too busy to get around to it!" Now at home, they had several other types of small pickles but no pickled garlic sugar.
Having dined daily at their house, Mingyuan was well aware that they didn’t have much for pickles.
He laughed heartily, "Not bad! If you like it, we still have plenty at home. I’ll bring more when I come back!"
He thought to himself that he would tell his mom to pickle more next year and bring Lin Xia’s share directly.
Lin Xia took it from Lin Dong’s hands and sniffed it, "It smells good! Second Brother! Then we won’t be polite!"
She actually loved eating sweet pickled garlic. Back when her mom was alive, she used to grow fresh garlic. Since sugar was precious, she used less sugar and more soy sauce and vinegar to make it, and it was delicious.
Jiang Mingyuan waved his hand, "Why be polite with me? Lin Xia! My mom finds the vest Lin Qiu made very fitting! She really likes it, and she asked me to thank you guys!"
Lin Xia felt relieved. After Jiang Mingyuan left yesterday, she and Xiaoqiu were still wondering what it looked like on Mrs. Zhao.
"It’s good that Madam is happy and it fits! Xiaoqiu and I just estimated the size. While making it, she purposely left some extra seam allowance so it could be altered if needed!"
"By the way, Lin Xia! Everyone says the sausages you make are delicious, and I was thinking about learning from you sometime so we can make some at home too!"
"Really? No problem at all!" Lin Xia crisply agreed, "Second Brother! If Madam wants to make some, I’ll help and stuff more for you when the time comes!"
She guessed that even if she and Mrs. Zhao knew the method, it wouldn’t be easy for them to start making it on their own. It might be better if she just made it for them.
"Sounds good!" Jiang Mingyuan didn’t stand on ceremony. Lin Dong grinned as he watched his older sister and Second Brother talk, occasionally chiming in. The three of them chatted and laughed merrily.
The crowd in the greenhouse steadily grew, with people stopping by their stall to ask for prices. They began to get busy.
By the time Ji Man arrived, there were already people surrounding Lin Xia and Jiang Mingyuan’s stalls.
Lin Dong helped Lin Xia, the siblings having clear roles. Jiang Mingyuan managed on his own without seeming flustered.
Ji Man called out softly, "Lin Xia!"
Lin Xia was busy counting money and looked up hurriedly to say to Ji Man, "Ji Man! You’re here!"
"Yes! Your brother also came to help!"
"Hello, Sister Ji!" Lin Dong greeted her. He remembered her from the last time they had bumped into her at the cinema entrance and watched a movie together. He had sensed something special between her and his Second Brother and now, seeing her gaze, his suspicion was confirmed.
"Oh! Good! Lin Xia! Then what can I help you with?" Ji Man spoke softly while covertly glancing at Jiang Mingyuan, thinking it would be perfect to help him since he was busy on his own.
Unfortunately, his expression was indifferent, and he didn’t even glance her way once.
Lin Xia’s stall was crowded, and she spoke rapidly, "Then come inside the stall, and help watch the goods!"
"Okay!" Ji Man suppressed the different emotions in her heart and stepped into the stall.
Lin Xia noticed Jiang Mingyuan’s coldness toward Ji Man, but with more and more people crowding around, she didn’t have the luxury to ponder it. "Dongzi! Go help Second Brother!"
The most concerning issue with such a crowd was the possibility of people stealing amidst the chaos.
Her clothing was conspicuous enough, but Second Brother’s items were smaller things, all of which were being handled and examined by people. It was easy for someone to pilfer if they weren’t careful.
"Alrighty!" Lin Dong was indifferent about whom he helped since he was unfamiliar with the prices, merely watching over the stall.
