Qian Chunli, a woman, really struggled to help the fallen Lin Aiguo back onto the bed. She turned her head to see Lin Qiang just standing there like a corpse and shouted angrily, "Lin Qiang, come and give me a hand quick!"

Lin Qiang had just been scared stiff; he thought Lin Aiguo was done for! The scream from his mother finally snapped him back to reality.

He helped Qian Chunli get Lin Aiguo back onto the bed.

Lin Aiguo was panting heavily and still cursing under his breath, but he dared not get up again so easily. The dizzy spell that had come on earlier had really frightened him. He asked Qian Chunli, "Why am I feeling so dizzy and nauseous?"

Lin Qiang grunted, turned, and was about to leave when Qian Chunli called him back in a low voice, "When you get home, tell Xiaoyu it was Lin Dong!"

Lin Qiang left the hospital and walked through the night, his courage faltering. Any dark shadow on the white snowy ground made him shiver, and he slipped several times, almost running to get home.

Lin Yu had been anxiously waiting at home. She had thought several times about going to the movie theatre to look for someone, but she really didn’t dare go out late at night for fear of running into a robber or something.

Lin Qiang wiped the cold sweat from his forehead. He understood why his mother had told him not to tell Lin Yu the truth—fearing she might accidentally spill the beans one day, it was simply better to keep her uninformed.

That night, many people were destined not to sleep well.

The next day, Lin Dong went back to school, while Lin Xia and Lin Qiu had to take a car with him to the city.

Before leaving home, Lin Xia hesitated. Looking at the things packed up, she thought about what to put in Jade’s room for safekeeping first.

But all they had were jars of pickles and household utensils as luggage. Lin Qiu was with her the whole time, and it would be too easy to give everything away carelessly.

Lin Dong, now boarding at school, had moved all his stuff to the dormitory and only had some summer clothes left at home.

Her goods had already been placed inside, and she had packed away their better clothes last.

The three siblings prepared to leave the house and saw the two bicycles they had pushed in from outside the night before.

Lin Dong was worried, "Big sister! Won’t they come today? Should I skip school?"

"Never mind them! Dongzi! You focus on your studies! If anything happens, you have your second sister!" Lin Xia couldn’t afford to let Lin Dong miss more school, and besides, there was no telling when Lin Aiguo and the others would show up; they couldn’t just sit around and wait.

The three of them headed to the city together, Lin Dong returned to school, and Lin Xia and her sister began their search for a house.

Lin Xia wanted to find something near Lin Dong’s school, so the sisters strolled around the area.

But finding a house was not so easy. They wanted to rent a standalone house without having to share with others, and they found no such thing all morning.

Just as they left one household, Lin Xia saw Lin Dong’s homeroom teacher, Teacher Hao, coming out from the neighboring house.

"Teacher Hao?"

Teacher Hao was startled but immediately recognized her as Lin Dong’s sister, recently transferred to his class.

"Xiaolin!"

Lin Xia, pulling Lin Qiu along, walked over with a cheery greeting, "Teacher Hao! So you live here?"

"Yes, indeed! What brings you here?" Teacher Hao asked politely.

Lin Xia explained openly, "Teacher Hao, there’s not many of us left in the family, so my sister and I were thinking of renting a place nearby to better look after my brother Lin Dong! It would help him focus more on his studies!"

Teacher Hao asked, "Have you found one yet?"

Teacher Hao suddenly smiled warmly, "Xiaolin! I do know of a house! But I’m not sure if it will meet your expectations!"

"Teacher Hao! Where is it? What’s the house like?" Lin Xia’s heart leapt with joy, as it’s always helpful to have friends in the right places.

Teacher Hao glanced at his watch, "There’s still time! How about I take you there to have a look?"

Lin Xia was very grateful, "Thank you so much, Teacher Hao! My sister and I have been searching all morning!"

"It’s nothing! Why be polite!" Teacher Hao said with a smile, pushing up his glasses.

On the way there, Teacher Hao casually talked about Lin Dong’s academic performance, with all his comments being words of praise.

Once Lin Xia followed him to see the house, she found it was a standalone with a front and back yard, a room of about thirty square meters, a bedroom, a living room, and a kitchen. The only problem was that the walls were coated with a layer of frost due to the long time it had been uninhabited.

Lin Xia looked around the chilly room where their breath turned white in the air. The place was run-down, but given their current situation, they couldn’t afford to be picky. Finding a standalone house like this was already fortunate, and with some cleaning and fixing up, it could be quite nice!

Since Teacher Hao had brought them, the landlord only asked for eight yuan in rent.

Lin Xia didn’t hesitate; she paid the money and rented the house on the spot.
