Chapter 106: Preparing For The Next Match
Chapter 106: 106: Preparing For The Next Match
The news about one of the Red Cloud Pirate’s fleets! that mysteriously defeated at the Hot Lake soon became the headlines in every notice board in the city. Everybody knows that Red Cloud Pirate fleets are notorious lawless criminals who work and are often commissioned by powerful sects to do their dirty jobs.
Of course, the details about what they were actually doing at the mountain range was highly classified. This news was made in order to control the people with fear and eventually finding the culprits by forcefully extorting any witnesses for information.
To make it convincing that the Red Cloud Pirate was very serious about finding the real culprit, the notice board was signed by the Fleet Admiral himself!
[....From the evidence that we gathered, the culprit was heading east. Therefore, we will investigate the city. Any information regarding the possible culprit will be valued highly.]
"Which idiot dared to mess with Red Cloud Pirates?!"
"Tsk, tsk... the Long River City is in serious trouble now. The Fleet Admiral would not stop for nothing to find the culprit!"
Meanwhile, Ash arrived at the Inn, and looked very fresh just like the morning he departed. As usual, the elven ladies greeted him cordially like a noble man. The inn was already so busy even though the sun hadn’t reached its zenith just yet.
Yunxian strode out of her study the moment she heard his voice downstairs after grabbing the income report of the inn for the past weeks. She trudged the staircase, she immediately tugged his hand, ushering him into the private dining room where they usually discussed serious issues.
Subsequently, Elara and Sylphy came into the room as well, bringing refreshments for everyone.
"Your tea, Master." Elara leaned her body courteously whilst ensuring her bountiful bosoms came into a full view in front of his eyes.
"En, thank you, Elara."
On the other hand, Sylphy was so excited to introduce her new baking skills. Many assorted sweets were neatly placed on a wooden tray.
"Master! Please try my newest creation. I bet you would like it, hihihi!" She giggled while smiling brightly.
Ash’s eyes rounded wide as a piece of short cake entered his mouth. The texture was very crunchy, and soft at the same time. And the complex sweetness goes very well with the refreshingly bitter tea.Combined
As the youngest elf, she always wanted to prove herself useful, and she did it splendidly. For the past weeks, most of the desert that came out fresh from the kitchen was made solely by her.
"This is so delicious! Did you learn to make it yourself?"
"No, Master. Miss Maomao, Lady Yunxian’s lady-in-waiting, taught me how to make them. I-I make them while thinking about you. I’m so glad that you like it, Master."
"En! I like it very much! Good job, Sylphy. I will reward you later." Ash gave her a lot of heartfelt head pats. She blushed intensely, her ears couldn’t stop twitching due to happiness.
Afterward, Yunxian slid the income report to the middle of the table. "This is our net income, Young Lord. I should say, this is beyond my expectations. If this trend keeps going up, we will be greatly understaffed. Should we expand the inn? What"
Ash caressed his chin, thinking while looking at the ceiling. "Hmm, instead of adding more rooms, why don’t we build more workshops for the elves or other future employees? I believe that would be more beneficial for them. That way, we could provide them jobs with steady income as well. In the meantime, it would also indirectly attract more guests to visit our inn."
"Would it not be too risky? What if they began to undermine our business instead? Especially the local merchants. They would see us as their business rivals." Elara chimed. "As wonderful as it sounds, things won’t always be the way we wanted. There will always be skirmishes."
"Eh, that’s the challenge that we must face after all. However, as long as we can steal the hearts of the masses, we will be just fine."
"And what exactly is your plan?"
"With something so sweet that could melt their hearts!" Ash pointed a finger directly in front of Sylphy’s face.
"Eh!!!!" The green haired elf yelped. "Me?!"
"Of course not, my dear." Elara brought Sylphy’s into her motherly hug. "What he meant by that is, you deserved to have your own business from now on. Of course, you’ll learn how to be independent, and be strong elfjust like your older sisters."
"Eh, really?!" Sylphy looked at Yunxian and her master alternately.
Yunxian nodded firmly. "Definitely, my dear. Besides, the real reason why we would establish this inn is to provide the non-humans with new chances to live normally until we find out how to travel to the other side of the universe."
Tears welled up in the corner of her eyes. She lunged forward, hugging Ash firmly. "Thank you, Master!"
Ash patted her back gently. "You’re welcome, Sylphy. And thank you for your hardwork."
"I will work very hard and do my best!" Not sure how to vent out her excitement, Sylphy opted to head back to her room. "What should I make next? Hmm? Something that is bitter and sweet? Something sour perhaps..."
Yunxian and Elara chuckled while shaking their heads as watching Sylphy trotted out merrily.
"Now that little gremlin is busy, I have something very important to talk about." Ash’ eyes turned very serious and sharp.
Knowing that it must be confidential matters, Yunxian deployed a Concealment Formation Array that covered the entire room with just a snap of her fingers.
"Please tell us, Young Lord."
Ash shut his eyes for a moment, after a careful deliberation, he then opened his mouth.
"Yunxian, as someone who lived in this realm for a while, do you happen to acknowledge the existence of Frost Mermaids?"
Yunxian tilted her head to the side slightly. "Only the rumors. There’s no official records about them. However, from what I usually hear about them, they were renowned for their exquisite taste, and many would hunt them for their eggs."
’Her statement is aligned with Bai Qiulian’s statement. Which means, Frost Mermaid is widely known in the noble born society. In this lawless land, everything is allowed, as long as you have the strength to do so.’
"Do you happen to know that they are also sentient and have their own means to communicate with other lifeforms?"
"I have never heard it before. Truth to be told, I have been wanting to do research about this. But, as you can see, my fund is very limited. Not to mention, they lived in the Southern Ocean, a place of unyielding cold. Even a Nascent Soul Cultivator would have a hard time surviving against the elements, let alone the aquatic beasts."
Yunxian finally noticed it."Hold on, how do you know that they’re sentient beings? If this news were made public, the Ten Sky Councils would have erupted! They will do anything to control this sentient race, whether to become their ally, or their slaves."
"Because, I met them a week ago."
"What?! Did you lie to us and went to the Southern Ocean instead? In just one week?!"
"Hold your horse, my lady. Let me explain." Ash put his hand on top of her fingers gently. "A week ago, during my training, I intercepted two pirates flying ships on top of the volcanic mountain range adjacent to the Western Wilderness. To my surprise, there was a whole school of mermaids in the crater’s hot lake. The pirates hunted and fished them out of the lake. Wonder, who has the funds to mobilize a pirate fleet?"
It didn’t take long for Yunxian to connect everything together. She gasped upon realization. "So, you were the person who—"
"Yes. I saved the mermaids, and sank their ships to the bottom of the lake."
Yunxian slammed the table. However, she wasn’t angry about what he did. Instead, she’s worried that the mermaids might face greater danger after this.
"Where are they now?"
"The mermaids? Oh, don’t worry about them. They are in a safe place. I can assure you that. I found a place which could accommodate them just fine. But, as for the exact location, I have promised to never tell a soul!"
Yunxian slumped back into her chair. "My goodness, don’t give me a heart attack, Young Lord. You did exactly what I would do for them. Never tell a soul about this matter. Once everything has calmed down, let’s see if we could do something for them."
"Agreed. There’s so many things to do. And tomorrow is my match day. I need to enter my closed meditation very soon to solidify my foundation."
"Understood, Young Lord. You may entrust us with the menial chores." Elara said.
The two women followed suit once he left the room. Though they really wanted to do it with him, they silently agreed to not bother him just yet. However, they also had the same thoughts to sleep with him after the tournament.
