Chapter 1077: Forever Boss

Editor: EndlessFantasy Translation

Su Li’s realization hit him like a ton of bricks.

If he went to the capital for school, it meant he would have to part ways with Gao Ming, and that thought made his chest tighten with unease. But if he stayed behind, it meant leaving his mother alone—how could he do that?

He couldn’t bear the thought of her being lonely, so he forced a smile and patted Gao Ming on the back, trying to reassure him.

"It’s only a few years, Gao Ming. Time will fly by. Once Mom graduates, I’ll come back to find you, I promise. We’re both growing up now, becoming mature men. There’s no reason to be sad about this."

Despite Su Li’s words, Gao Ming couldn’t help but feel the sting of impending separation. He wanted to cry, but seeing Su Li so composed made him feel like it would be a shameful thing to do. So, instead of bursting into tears, he nodded, ran home, and locked himself in his room, where he silently sobbed into his pillow.

He had never wanted to be apart from Su Li. In his heart, Su Li was the most important person—more important than his own father. He had already decided that he could bear the distance between himself and his father, but never with Su Li.

Eventually, his tears began to dry, and when he glanced up to grab his handkerchief, his eyes landed on his little piggy bank sitting on the bedside table. A quiet determination settled in his chest as he made a decision.

With ten days left before their departure, the Su Li family began packing. Su Li hummed a cheerful tune as he folded clothes and stuffed them into his suitcase. He was practically buzzing with excitement, eager to experience the train ride to the capital again. He’d never forgotten how thrilling it was the last time.

"Big brother, let’s buy some toys to bring along! We can play with them on the train!" he said, eyes wide with anticipation.

Su Bing, meanwhile, was busy packing up more than just clothes—he was carefully organizing notes and textbooks into a box, preparing for the move. He shot Su Li a look before responding.

"Stop thinking about fun all the time. On the train, we’ll need to look after our luggage too. I’m going out to meet the Hu brothers. Can you tell Mom? I won’t be long."

Su Li nodded as Su Bing grabbed the box and headed out the door. He hopped on his bike and quickly rode to the Hu brothers’ place.

Today, the Hu brothers weren’t working, so they were home, and they greeted Su Bing warmly when he arrived. The news that the Su family was moving to the capital had already spread, and everyone was reluctant to see them go.

The Hu brothers, especially, had a deep fondness for Su Bing’s family. Aunt Gu, in particular, was always so gentle with them, and every time they saw her, they felt like family.

As for Su Bing, while he had always seemed distant, they all knew he was the one who had led them, who had shown them how to be self-sufficient. Without his guidance, they would still be the wandering kids who had no way of standing up for themselves.

Da Hu clapped Su Bing on the back. "Don’t worry, Boss. Even if you go to the capital, we’ll always consider you our boss. We’ll follow your guidance and keep the stall going. We’ll set aside your share of the profits for when you come back."

Er Hu and Xiao Hu eagerly pulled out their gifts for Su Bing. Xiao Hu grinned as he handed over a bag of candies and biscuits. "These are for you, Boss. Take them with you on the train and enjoy them."

Su Bing smiled faintly and accepted the gifts. He handed the box he’d brought to Da Hu. "Inside, you’ll find the new recipe I’ve written, along with the future plans for the stall. Follow it, and you’ll be fine. There’s also the next phase of learning materials and a dictionary—study when you can. That’s all I have to say. I’m heading out now."

As always, Su Bing’s words were brief and to the point. Without wasting another second, he grabbed his things and left, his face an expression of calm that betrayed no emotion.

But as the Hu brothers watched him go, their eyes filled with tears. In the time they had known Su Bing, they had come to realize that while his exterior was cold, his heart was warm. He had never spoken in flowery words, but he had taught them the value of dignity through hard work. Su Bing would always be their boss—no matter where he went.

Back at the Su family household, Gu Zi and Su Shen were working together in the backyard garden. It was a modest plot, but it was well-maintained, lush and beautiful.

Gu Zi looked around, a tinge of reluctance in her heart. But the thought of the new house in the capital, a traditional courtyard home, reassured her. She would still find a space for a small garden there.

Su Shen seemed to sense her thoughts. "The courtyard house in the capital has a large plot of empty land next to it. I’ll have someone take care of it, and by the time you arrive, you’ll have a place to grow your vegetables."

Gu Zi nodded. "I trust you to handle everything, Su Shen. But are we really having my parents move in here?"

Su Shen smiled and gave a reassuring nod. "Yes. Now that Sister Hua’s Gourmet Shop is running smoothly and the town shop is under reliable management, your mom and Li Hua can focus on the city’s shop. They won’t need to worry about finding a place to live here, and it’ll be good for us to have them around to keep an eye on things. It’s a win-win."
