Rebirth: The Comeback of the Girl -
Chapter 243 - 242: 38.8 Degrees
Chapter 243: Chapter 242: 38.8 Degrees
"Oh dear! Why are you so hot! Come with me quickly!" Mrs. Han pulled Zhen Yu to the couch, took out a thermometer from the drawer, "Take off your coat and clip this on quickly! I’m guessing it’s already 38 degrees! What’s wrong with you, child? Weren’t you just fine yesterday? I didn’t hear those two boys mention you caught a cold either!" Zhen Yu obediently took off her coat and unbuttoned her sweater, then clipped the thermometer under her arm.
"I got chilled during my shower this morning." As she spoke, Zhen Yu sniffled hard.
Unfortunately, it was futile; both her nostrils were blocked.
She had to breathe through her mouth.
"You showered at home? Why didn’t you go to the public bath!" Mrs. Han asked while taking out the medicine box and looking for cold medicine.
"Mom." Han Mingyue walked to the front of the sofa wanting to sit next to Zhen Yu, but she raised her arm and pushed him away, keeping him at arm’s length.
He looked at Zhen Yu, puzzled, and noticed her mouth slightly open.
Following her cue, Han Mingyue sat down a seat away from her and confirmed, "You have a cold?"
"Ah." Zhen Yu nodded.
Mrs. Han suddenly looked up and directed her son, "Mingyue, go pour a glass of water for Xiao Yu to take her medicine!"
"Okay."
Just as Han Mingyue walked away, Han Jiayang swaggered over to the sofa.
Showing no proper form, he dropped himself onto the sofa, half leaning and greeting, "Mom! Zhen Yu!"
After calling out, he immediately yawned loudly, "Hah! Oh... Didn’t you say you had something to do today, Zhen Yu?"
While speaking, he stretched out in a big lazy yawn.
"Ah! Something to do! Showering!" Zhen Yu finished, then made a self-deprecating comment, "Now I’ve really washed up a problem!"
"Hahaha..." Han Jiayang found the humor in it and laughed non-stop.
——
Han Mingyue walked back with a glass of water.
He placed the water on the table, then grabbed his brother from a half-lying position into a sitting position before sitting back down where he was before.
"Take out the thermometer! Let’s see how high it is!" Aunt Han spoke up.
"Ah." Zhen Yu reached into her clothes and took out the thermometer, bringing it close to her eyes.
But she was so feverish and dizzy that she rotated it several times without finding the right angle.
Han Mingyue silently reached out, took the warm thermometer, and turned it halfway, "38.3 degrees."
"This is really..." Aunt Han started to say but then took out two pills from in front of her and handed them to Zhen Yu, "Did you have lunch? If so, take the fever reducer first."
"I did." Zhen Yu took the pills, placed them in her mouth one by one, and swallowed them with water.
"For the cold, take two pills at a time, three times a day." Zhen Yu took the medicine box, took out two pills herself, and swallowed them down.
Mrs. Han looked at the young girl’s flushed cheeks, "With a fever like this, Auntie can’t rest easy leaving you alone at home! Stay here this afternoon! Are you feeling uncomfortable? Do you want to sleep for a bit?"
Zhen Yu was indeed feeling very uncomfortable, her face was burning hot, and her eyes could barely open, so she replied softly, "I want to sleep."
Upon hearing this, Mrs. Han immediately got up to help her, "Go to Mingyue’s room."
"Okay." Zhen Yu was now completely compliant, responding with ’okay’ to whatever was said.
Not long after being laid down on Han Mingyue’s bed, Zhen Yu fell into a deep sleep.
Mrs. Han stood by for a while, then closed the door and went back to the living room.
——
Han Jiaoyang had already gone back to his room to sleep, while Han Mingyue was still waiting on the sofa.
"Mom."
"It’s only mid-March, and the stove is still burning at home! How can you catch a cold just from taking a bath! Kids don’t know how to take care of themselves! They’re just helpless without adults around!"
"..." Han Mingyue felt somewhat puzzled. Judging by Zhen Yu’s usual behavior, she shouldn’t be foolish enough to make such a mistake!
She knows how to cook and do laundry, and she can even start the school’s stove! How could she possibly not know to keep warm when taking a bath? Sigh, it doesn’t make sense.
Thinking about how her house had been sold and that in half a month she’d be moving into the dormitory, Han Mingyue suddenly started to worry...
At this thought, Mrs. Han also came to the same realization; mother and son were indeed in sync.
"Your Aunt Cheng is going to Qi City in half a month, right? She really trusts her little girl to stay in the dorm! If it were up to me, I wouldn’t be at ease! Well, if it were a son, I probably wouldn’t mind..."
Han Mingyue felt a dark cloud over her head! In her mind, she silently questioned: "Mom! Have you considered my feelings when you say that?"
Clearly, Mrs. Han had not.
"You say back in the day when Old Cheng and I violated the family planning policy, why could they have a girl? And I ended up having another smelly boy! Ah! If only Xiao Yu were my daughter..."
Not good! Not good at all! That ’if’ is toxic! This mother is toxic too!
Mrs. Han was still fantasizing about ’if she had a daughter’ and what she would do. Han Mingyue couldn’t bear to listen any longer and quietly slipped away...
---
Zhen Yu slept until it was dark and hadn’t left Han Mingyue’s room.
Dinner time was approaching, and Mrs. Han felt it was time to check on the girl to see if her fever had subsided.
Mrs. Han did not turn on the light but left the door open, using the light from outside to approach Zhen Yu’s bedside and touch her forehead.
This touch was a mistake! Not only had the fever not subsided, but it also seemed even hotter!
Mrs. Han hurriedly went to grab a thermometer to check Zhen Yu’s temperature. Zhen Yu, feverish and weak, didn’t even open her eyes as Mrs. Han fussed over her.
Three minutes later, Mrs. Han walked out of the room with the thermometer. The two brothers were waiting at the door, crowding around their mother to see the reading.
Han Jiaoyang, with the sharpest eyesight, was the first to yell, "38.8 degrees!"
"So high!" Han Mingyue frowned.
Mrs. Han thrust the thermometer into the hands of her eldest son, "Hey! She needs to get an IV! I’m going to call your dad to bring some medicine back! And we need to get Old Cheng back here too! This Old Cheng..."
Han Jiaoyang leaned in and whispered to Han Mingyue, "Bro! Is Zhen Yu going to stay at our place again tonight? Your room is practically becoming hers..."
Han Mingyue glared at his brother, "Xiao Yu is so sick and you still have the mood to joke!"
Han Jiaoyang raised his eyebrows, "Anyway, you all care about her! Besides, dad is coming back soon..."
Thinking that his father would soon be back with medicine to give Zhen Yu an IV, Han Mingyue’s anxious heart eased a little.
---
About half an hour later, Mr. Han arrived with some items, and Mrs. Zhen came with him.
As soon as she entered the house, she didn’t bother to take off her coat and grabbed Han Mingyue waiting at the entrance to ask: "Where’s Xiao Yu? Where is Xiao Yu?"
Han Mingyue immediately replied, "Aunt Cheng! She’s in my room! She slept after taking her medicine at noon, all the way until the afternoon."
"Old Cheng, come with me!" Mrs. Han grabbed Mrs. Zhen’s hand and dragged her towards Han Mingyue’s room.
"What were you thinking? How could you let Xiao Yu bathe alone at home? The public bathhouse outside isn’t expensive! What’s the point of causing trouble at home? Now she’s gotten a cold, hasn’t she?"
Mrs. Zhen: "..."
Did I overestimate my daughter’s capabilities after all? She was just supposed to have a simple wash at home; she shouldn’t have gotten this sick!
