Rebirth: The Comeback of the Girl
Chapter 238 - 237 Too Late

Chapter 238: Chapter 237 Too Late

In the evening, as soon as Mrs. Zhen got home, Han Mingyue bid farewell with her younger brother. In his mind, Zhen Yu would definitely tell Mrs. Zhen about what happened in the morning. After all, the incident had crossed a line and could very likely affect the relationship between the two families.

But obviously, Zhen Yu did not want to seek trouble! Especially when the house had been sold and her mother was leaving town in a month.

So the events of the day were quietly concealed by Zhen Yu, unbeknownst to Mrs. Zhen.

However, during this weekend at the start of the school term, neither Bai Xue nor Fu Yu visited Zhen Yu’s house.

On Monday, Zhen Yu reported to Teacher Jiang her need to stay in the dorms after the Tomb-Sweeping Festival. After inquiring about the reason, Teacher Jiang told her to find him when the time came.

Zhen Yu and Bai Xue still chatted and laughed as deskmates in the school, and they continued to walk to and from school together.

Of course, Fu Yu was still accompanying them.

But this short journey no longer echoed with the previous joyous laughter and playful teasing, but was filled with an unspoken embarrassment and awkwardness.

The gloomy atmosphere only persisted for three days before Han Jiayang burst out!

"Fu Yu! Can you stop acting like everyone owes you money! If you want to sulk, go back home and sulk!"

Fu Yu cast a gloomy glance at him, "If you don’t want to see it, then don’t look! I didn’t ask you to!"

"Enough, enough! Fu Yu, come here!" Bai Xue hurriedly tried to mediate, pulling her cousin’s sleeve and whispering: "If you’re really annoyed, you can come live at my place for a while!"

After saying this, she looked up to explain to Han Jiayang: "My uncle makes a scene at home every day, Fu Yu must be really upset! He’s not targeting everyone."

Han Jiayang nodded after hearing this, not saying anything more.

——

Fu Family.

As soon as Fu Yu opened the door, Bai Xue, who was behind him, heard the roar from the living room.

"Get lost! Stay away from me! I don’t need your help!" Second Uncle Fu’s voice was full of vigor, showing no sign of the weakness he had in the hospital half a month ago.

"Second Uncle, you..." Mrs. Fu’s voice sounded very suppressed, after all, no sister-in-law could feel comfortable after being yelled at by her brother-in-law.

"Bang!!!"

"Mom!" Fu Yu called out while rushing into the house like a whirlwind, shocking Bai Xue who was following behind.

Although she couldn’t see the situation inside the house because her cousin was blocking her view, she decisively ran in after him.

The place was a mess.

Food debris was splattered all over the floor, and there was soup and water at Mrs. Fu’s feet. She stood there with an ashen face, hands trembling with anger.

"Fu Shouli!" Grandpa Fu sat in the corner, angrily slapping the edge of the Kang bed! "Look at you! Where is there any sign of propriety in you?! She is your sister-in-law!"

As if that wasn’t enough to vent his anger, Grandpa Fu’s next sentence hit his youngest son’s sore spot. "Are you blind? Is your heart blind too?! Is this how you treat people?!"

"Ahh!!!" Second Fu, stimulated by the word ’blind’, roared and suddenly stood up, wildly kicking the broken dishes on the floor. The clanging sounds were incessant.

"Enough! If you don’t want to stay in this family anymore! I’ll just buy another house and split you off to live alone!" Grandpa Fu said sternly.

As if someone had hit the pause button, or as if a magic spell had been cast, everyone in the living room froze, silent as chickens.

——

After a lengthy silence, Second Fu glared at his father with one red eye, grinding his teeth as he said, "Fine, let’s split! You go buy a house tomorrow! As soon as it’s done, I’m moving out!"

With those words, he stormed into his bedroom without turning back, and with a ’bang’ his door was slammed shut.

Grandpa Fu looked on grimly at this scene, and it wasn’t until the door-slam echoed that he waved wearily to Mrs. Fu, signaling her, "Clean this up."

Mrs. Fu patted her son’s hand, indicating to Fu Yu that there was no need for him to protect her anymore. Then she walked away from his side and went to the kitchen to fetch a broom and a scrubbing brush.

Only then did Grandpa Fu notice that his grandson and granddaughter had been watching for who knows how long. He gestured for them to come over, patted his grandson’s head, and sighed deeply.

"Xiao Yu! How has Zhen Yu been doing lately?"

Fu Yu fell silent, not knowing how to answer. He could only see her twice a day, and they hardly exchanged any words.

Seeing this, Bai Xue took the initiative to respond, "Granddad, she’s doing fine! She’s not upset with our family! It’s just that her family sold their house and she won’t be able to be our neighbor anymore."

"What?!" Grandpa Fu startled, "The house was sold?! When did this happen? How come I didn’t know?"

"It was sold during the Lunar New Year! I found out after school started when she mentioned moving into the dormitory." Bai Xue was a bit puzzled. Why was granddad reacting so strongly?

"Oh no!" Grandpa Fu slapped his thigh in frustration, "If I had known they were selling their house at that time, I would have bought it!"

Bai Xue and Fu Yu exchanged glances, they both felt it was a shame. But the reality was that the Zhen family’s house had already been sold, and any regret now was too late...

——

When Bai Xue was leaving, she asked Fu Yu again if he wanted to stay with the Bai family for a while. Fu Yu shook his head and declined. He couldn’t leave his mother behind.

At dinner time, Second Fu remained sullenly in his room, without any intention to come out. Grandpa Fu didn’t ask anyone to call him, and he just invited his eldest son’s family to start eating without him!

After everybody had finished eating, Grandpa Fu personally filled a bowl of rice and a bowl of dishes and had his grandson accompany him to deliver the food to Second Fu’s room.

Second Fu wasn’t foolish; he hadn’t locked the door.

After coming out of his uncle’s room, Fu Yu was about to do his homework when his grandfather called out to him. "Come with me!"

Grandpa Fu’s bedroom was very small. The two of them barely fit sitting knee-to-knee on the kang bed, when Grandpa Fu suddenly made a startling statement!

"You little rascal, you like Zhen Yu, don’t you? That time you used to shout for her from the courtyard wall every day, I saw it all!"

Fu Yu’s face instantly flushed red. "Grandpa!"

"What are you yelling for? I’m right here!" Grandpa Fu scolded with a stern face. "Look how scared you look now! Why weren’t you afraid when you were shouting from the top of the wall, huh?"

"..." Fu Yu shrank his neck and didn’t respond, preferring to first understand what his grandfather meant. He had an inexplicable feeling that his grandpa wasn’t actually about to scold him...

"Xiao Yu! You know about Zhen Yu dreaming something bad would happen to your uncle, right?"

Fu Yu nodded, "Yes, I found out after it happened!"

"Do you know that she also dreamt beforehand about you and Zhen Yan almost drowning at West River?" Grandpa Fu asked intently, watching his grandson’s expression.

Fu Yu was clearly taken aback and shook his head in confusion, "I didn’t know! She dreamt about that time too?"

Grandpa Fu took a deep breath, "Alright! If you like her, stick close to her! Don’t miss out on this chance; there may not be another!"
