Rebirth: The Comeback of the Girl -
Chapter 161: Target, Purpose
Chapter 161: Chapter 161: Target, Purpose
Possibly inspired by Zhen Yu, everyone finally stopped slacking off due to Fu Yu’s issues.
Throughout the day, Fu Yu did not appear again.
When it was time to leave at five o’clock, everyone was packing up their books when Bai Xue timidly asked, "Do you think Fu Yu will come back?"
None of the boys spoke; they all understood the psychology of boys.
Pride is not easily set aside, and Fu Yu genuinely dislikes studying, so no one had any good methods to ’entice’ him to study willingly.
Zhen Yu didn’t want to speak initially, but seeing everyone vaguely showing a hint of worry, she had to tell the truth.
"He will come! Uncle Fu and Aunt Fu won’t miss such a good opportunity."
Zhen Yan and Fu Yu grew up together, wearing open-crotch pants, and he honestly said, "Even if he comes, he won’t study! It might even provoke a quarrel!"
Han Jiayang deeply agreed and nodded.
"I think he resents you." Han Mingyue pointed out the reason for the quarrel sharply, "He resents you for stealing his playmate."
There was another thing Han Mingyue didn’t say aloud but silently added in her heart, "He resents you more for not inviting him to study."
"I know." Zhen Yu calmly said, "Have you heard this saying, ’If heaven wants to destroy a man, it must first make him mad.’"
Han Jiayang was confused, "What does this saying mean?"
"Reverse psychology." Han Mingyue smiled understandingly at Zhen Yu.
"Exactly!" Zhen Yu nodded, "If he comes tomorrow, none of you pay attention to him! Watch me."
"Will he come tomorrow?" Bai Xue asked, half-doubting.
"He will be brought here tomorrow!" Zhen Yu emphasized the words ’brought here,’ and everyone understood.
Thus, they all nodded in agreement, promising to ignore Fu Yu.
——
At this moment, Fu Yu was at home, being scolded in a mixed gathering of men and women.
Mrs. Fu, frustrated beyond measure, said, "Fu Yu! What did I tell you before I sent you to the Zhen Family to study? Why did you run back by yourself!?"
"They didn’t welcome me!" Fu Yu retorted stubbornly.
"Bullshit!" Mrs. Fu didn’t believe a word! She knew her own son, surely he must have spoken out of turn and complained about something!
"This morning Xiao Yu had agreed just fine! Tell me! Did you spout nonsense and offend them?!"
Fu Yu stubbornly insisted, his neck stiffening as he said, "I didn’t!"
"Whether you did or not! From now on, you go there every day on time!" Fu’s father, who had been quiet until now, said this one sentence, decisively settling the matter.
"I won’t go!" A teenage boy might forfeit his life, but he absolutely couldn’t lose face! After the quarrel today, how could he shame himself by going there on his own.
Fu’s father’s anger flared up instantly, his eyes glaring as he barked, "I said you must go! If you run off again, I’ll thrash you!"
Fu Yu turned his head away, filled with anger, his expression like that of a provoked wolf cub.
Seeing the father and son at loggerheads again, Mrs. Fu hurriedly mediated, "Alright, alright! He won’t dare to run back again! I’ll take him there tomorrow morning."
Fu’s father didn’t speak again, tacitly agreeing to Mrs. Fu’s arrangement.
Fu Yu also didn’t dare speak; deep down, he somewhat relievedly sighed.
He couldn’t face going there himself, having his mom escort him at least gave him an excuse to show that it wasn’t his own choice. Even if it was embarrassing, it wouldn’t lose him face.
——
The next morning, the process was nearly the same as the day before; Mrs. Fu left Fu Yu at Zhen Family’s house and then she left.
However, all the friends remembered that Fu Yu was coming over today, so they all arrived early in the morning.
Zhen Family’s round table was packed with people, and after his mom left, Fu Yu stood alone in the middle of the living room.
Because Zhen Yu had informed everyone in advance yesterday, even though everyone felt sorry to see Fu Yu being neglected, they still refrained from calling him over.
Zhen Yu was silently counting the time, occasionally glancing at Fu Yu’s reaction.
About half a minute later, Fu Yu’s face began to turn red and he started to emit an irritable aura.
Zhen Yu timed her moment as his body started to turn and called out to him: "Fu Yu!"
Embarrassed and angry, Fu Yu was about to storm out the door again, but he froze halfway when Zhen Yu called him.
Awkwardly, he responded, "What?" in a fierce tone.
Han Mingyue, who was busy solving problems, frowned and pursed her lips.
Zhen Yu cut to the chase, "What are you here for?"
"What’s it to you why I’m here?" Fu Yu retorted angrily at each question.
Zhen Yu remained calm, "We all have our own goals! If you don’t have one, please don’t disturb our study, just find a place to sit!"
After saying this, she lowered her head again, no longer paying attention to Fu Yu as if she was truly immersed back into her study.
——
Fu Yu stood still for a few seconds before sitting down in a corner of the room, and stared unblinkingly at everyone who was reading and solving problems.
His mind kept replaying Zhen Yu’s words, "We all have our own goals!"
Goals? What goals? Thinking too much, he blurted out without realizing.
As soon as he finished speaking, Zhen Yu’s voice rang out.
"A goal! It’s the state or objective a person aims to achieve, something that can only be attained through effort!" Zhen Yu explained the meaning of the term.
Then she looked up at Fu Yu and said, "Our goal is to get into High School! What about you? Do you have a goal?"
Fu Yu pondered for a moment, then replied, "My goal is to graduate from junior high."
Zhen Yu shook her head, "That’s your purpose, not your goal!"
"What do you mean?" Fu Yu asked unhappily, feeling discriminated against.
"We! Only through hard study can we achieve the goal of getting into High School. The key point is that it requires effort! That’s the only way to achieve it!" Zhen Yu paused then continued: "And you! You just have to spend four years in junior high and you can achieve the purpose of graduating. You don’t need to strive! Just coast through!"
Fu Yu’s face turned crimson with frustration as Zhen Yu analytically hammered him with the hard truth, yet she didn’t stop there and increased her intensity.
"So, even though you get along well with everyone now, after junior high graduation, we will go our separate ways!"
Fu Yu’s heart began to feel uneasy, he couldn’t help repeating, "Go our separate ways?"
"That’s right! We’ll still need to continue striving in High School. Our future goal is to apply for university! High School is not like junior high; the studies are so intense that there’s no time to keep in touch with friends who live far away!"
"Is that so?" Fu Yu stuttered, "Then, then what about after university?"
Zhen Yu unblinkingly shattered his illusion, "In the new school, we will make new friends. Life has many stages, friends with whom you can’t keep in touch often will eventually be forgotten."
