Chapter 151: Chapter 151: Meeting an Old Friend by Chance
"Grandpa Wang, we’re catching a ride home now, thank you so much for today!" Before leaving, Zhen Yu held her brother’s hand and bowed to the gatekeeper, Grandpa Wang.
Grandpa Wang waved his hands repeatedly, "Hey! Don’t mention it, it’s just a small matter."
"Brother Wang has a kind heart, and we really should thank you!" Mrs. Zhen thanked him first, and then added, "When school starts again, I’ll have to come to see my son off, and I’ll take you out for a meal then!"
Grandpa Wang immediately refused, "Oh there’s really no need for that! It’s such a trivial matter to fuss over a meal!"
"My son still has three years of school left here! My daughter wants to transfer here too, so we’ll need to ask for your help in looking after them! If we weren’t in a hurry to catch the ride home today, I would have treated you already!" Mrs. Zhen, having honed her negotiation skills in business, was quite smooth with her words.
"Haha... Alright, alright! Let’s talk about it when school starts," Grandpa Wang laughed it off.
"We’ll be going now, Brother Wang."
"Grandpa Wang, goodbye."
"Alright, alright! Goodbye."
——
A bit further down the road, Zhen Yan immediately grabbed his sister’s sleeve, "Are we really rushing to catch the ride? Aren’t we going to check out the Martial Arts Hall? And my Jin Yong!"
"We are!" Zhen Yu gave him a look, "We always need a reason to leave, right? We can’t just use people and then ditch them!"
"Oh." Zhen Yan seemed to understand yet not understand.
"With us being strangers here, where do we go to find a Martial Arts Hall?" Mrs. Zhen was a bit worried.
After all, even if they weren’t rushing to catch the ride, they didn’t have much time left. If they had to search all over...
"Just ask around!" Zhen Yu, somewhat helplessly, walked straight to a small shop right across from First High School, leaving her mother and brother behind.
"Sister! Do you know if there are any training classes around here?" Zhen Yu called the thirty-something shop owner ’sister’, amusing her greatly.
"Oh dear girl, you should call me auntie!" The shop owner felt flattered and pointed down the street, "There are a lot of training institutions on that road, you can go check it out."
"Thank you, sister." Zhen Yu, who hadn’t lived past thirty in her previous life, wasn’t much younger than the woman, so calling her sister was quite comfortable and sincere for her.
The shop owner was grinning, "Oh my! What a sweet-talker you are! Go ahead then."
"Sister, goodbye!" Zhen Yu turned to leave and signaled her mom and brother to follow.
——
As they turned into the street the shop owner had pointed to, the family of three were immediately distracted by various signs on both sides of the street.
Art classes, dance classes, musical instrument stores, piano classes — you name it. Of course, the majority were extracurricular tutoring classes.
In the midst of all the diverse signs, it wasn’t easy to spot one teaching Martial Arts, but finally, Zhen Yan’s eager eyes caught sight of a Taekwondo Hall.
"Little sister, Taekwondo!" Zhen Yan abruptly pulled on Zhen Yu’s sleeve and shouted.
"Let’s go in and see." Zhen Yu was calm. After all, she knew that in her previous life Taekwondo training was very popular in China, but not every place had genuine substance.
What’s the use of learning a bunch of fancy moves and huffing and puffing? She had been cheated before! After half a year of training, despite a fiery shout at the start, she was miserably defeated when it actually came to real fighting.
The three climbed to the second floor. The spacious venue had only one man inside, who glanced at them as they entered and didn’t say a word.
"Do you only teach Taekwondo?" Zhen Yu got straight to the point.
The man nodded, "Hmm, is it him who wants to learn?"
"No classes today?" Zhen Yu asked instead of answering.
"If there were classes, would I be here?" The man’s tone was rather unpleasant, "Soon there’s a session at the top of the hour, are you here for a trial lesson?"
"No need, just want to watch from the side." Zhen Yu declined the trial lesson.
"Can leave anytime, just here to try out... Who would run off in the middle of a class? Changing clothes is involved too."
The man nodded and ignored the three of them.
He seemed lofty and arrogant on the surface, but who knows if his skills match his pride.
——
With fifteen minutes to the hour, Zhen Yu voluntarily led her mother and brother to the long bench nearby to wait quietly.
Parents kept coming in with their children, heading straight for the room marked ’Changing Room’.
Zhen Yan looked on with envy, watching every person that passed by.
Five minutes to the hour, suddenly two men appeared at the door, and upon seeing each other, both were stunned.
"It’s you!" shouted the tall man.
The shorter man hid behind him, whispering, "Why would she come here?"
Though he whispered, the room was too quiet, and Zhen Yu still heard it. "Why can’t I come here?"
These were the two thugs who had tried to rob them before! Zhang San’er and Li Si’er.
"Lady, how long has it been? Why are you still coming after us!" Tall Zhang San’er said with a pained expression: "We’ve already reformed!"
"Is this training class run by you?" Zhen Yu picked up something from his words.
"No, no! We’re just helping out here." Short Li Si’er frantically waved his hands in denial, "Sparring partners! Just sparring partners!"
Zhen Yu gestured for them to come closer.
The two hurried over, "Anything you say, ma’am!"
Inside they were thinking ’we’re afraid of getting beaten up’, because the pain from her hits was much worse than anything they faced as sparring partners.
Zhen Yu gently nodded towards the open space, "How about it?"
Li Si’er was somewhat confused, what does she mean? But Zhang San reacted immediately, nodding at Zhen Yu, "Far from it!"
Zhen Yu stood up immediately, "Let’s go downstairs to talk."
"Okay!" Zhang San agreed and gave Li Si’er a look, signaling him to stay.
——
The man who had been in the hall all along showed no reaction to Zhen Yu’s departure.
Zhen Yu walked ahead with her mother and brother, followed by Zhang San; the four of them stopped downstairs.
"It might not be good for everyone to come out..."
"No problem!" Zhen Yu interrupted him, "Do you know any nearby Martial Arts Halls that are genuinely skilled?"
Zhang San seemed to grasp Zhen Yu’s purpose for being here, but he didn’t understand why someone as skilled as her needed to learn martial arts, so he said, "I know! But you,"
"My brother wants to learn," Zhen Yu explained briefly.
"Why don’t you teach him? The ones with genuine skills are quite expensive!" Zhang San tried to persuade.
"I don’t have time, and I don’t know how to teach," Zhen Yu was straightforward, "Lead the way!"
"Alright! It’s not far from here, just walk further ahead, it’s on the second floor across from the next building!"
Under Zhang San’s guidance, Zhen Yu and her company arrived at a training facility named Xu’s Martial Arts School.
They reached the door on the second floor, but it was still eerily silent inside. Zhen Yan couldn’t help but wonder, could it be unoccupied? They didn’t have much time left.
