Rebirth: The Comeback of the Girl -
Chapter 123 You Come to Me
Chapter 123: Chapter 123 You Come to Me
Zhen Yan’s words interrupted Zhen Yu’s train of thought. Taking a deep breath, Zhen Yu turned her head and said to her brother, "Uncle Cheng has taken her away."
"Ah?" Zhen Yan’s eyes lit up, "That’s great! Finally taken away!"
"Soon, we might have to start paying monthly maintenance fees." Zhen Yu could guess Uncle Cheng’s intentions, but she wasn’t worried.
Whatever Mrs. Zhen is entitled to, Zhen Yu won’t stop her from getting it; if grandma wants more, she’s dreaming!
"What? Our mom still has to pay maintenance fees?" Zhen Yan said indignantly, "We didn’t get anything, our mom isn’t her son! Why should she?!"
"It’s the law." Zhen Yu said calmly.
Zhen Yan hung his head and said, "Then, won’t our grandma be opening her mouth wide for more? That year,"
Zhen Yu patted her brother’s shoulder, "Don’t worry, she wouldn’t dare! Our mom won’t have to secretly give money to her family anymore, and she won’t get beaten for it either!"
Zhen Yan absently scratched his head and said, "Yeah! They’re divorced now, he can’t control our mom anymore! Then our family,"
"We have money, we can afford it." Zhen Yu had a rough understanding of the family’s income.
After all, she always accompanied Mrs. Zhen to stock up on goods, and Mrs. Zhen often talked to her children about the store’s situation, so a rough calculation gave her an idea.
"That’s good." Zhen Yan’s mind was at ease, and then he remembered why he had come home.
"It’s past twelve, Xiao Yu, let’s have lunch together quickly!"
"Okay."
-
After locking up after lunch, the siblings each went out.
Zhen Yu had now developed a habit of running to the Han Family whenever she had free time, as if she would feel uncomfortable not going there for a day.
Zhen Yan, on the other hand, spent most of his time at the Fu Family, doing his homework with his sister after dinner.
The Han Family’s clinic had been moved to the town center for some time now, and the business was a lot better than when it was on this side. Mrs. Han had to go there to help on weekends.
Han Mingyue mentioned that Mr. Han was already planning to hire a nurse to help and was currently searching for a candidate.
Only the two brothers were at home on Han Family weekends, and Mrs. Han, like Mrs. Zhen, would leave food in the pot for her sons to eat at noon.
When Zhen Yu arrived, Han Mingyue was tidying up the dining table, while Han Jiayang was sitting on the couch watching TV.
Upon seeing Zhen Yu enter, Han Jiayang greeted her with a mischievous smile.
"Zhen Yu, why are you just coming now? My brother has been anxiously waiting for you!"
"Jiayang!" Hearing her brother speak, Han Mingyue felt a surge of panic, and her hand that was about to wipe the table froze in mid-air.
But she only managed to call out the name and couldn’t stop the words that followed.
Right after Han Jiayang’s words, the atmosphere instantly quieted down, and Han Mingyue subconsciously held her breath.
Zhen Yu, who had stopped to brush the snow off her coat, paused too but only for a second, then she moved again.
While brushing, she said, "What’s the urgent matter? It’s snowing outside."
Han Mingyue let out a slow breath, "It’s snowing? It was sunny this morning!"
"It just started." Zhen Yu took off her cotton coat and hung it on the coat rack by the door, then went to help Han Mingyue clean up the table.
"I’ve finished wiping. You sit down, I’ll come after I wash the dishes," Han Mingyue said while putting the chairs back.
"Okay." Zhen Yu nodded and sat down on the single sofa, glancing over at Han Jiayang after she sat down.
-
As soon as Han Jiayang heard the topic change, he focused intently on watching "The Legend of the Condor Heroes" again.
Zhen Yu came over, and he didn’t even bother to acknowledge her, his eyes fixed on the TV without blinking.
Zhen Yu softly asked him, "Been watching since the morning?"
"Yeah! It started broadcasting around 8 o’clock." Han Jiayang responded without turning his head.
"Does your brother watch it too?"
"He doesn’t watch it!" He answered the question but still just stared at the TV, not at the person.
"Then what was he doing?"
"Who knows! Running out every so often! Let him find you, but he doesn’t go!"
"...You asked him to find me?"
"Yeah! He said he can’t go, and when asked why he won’t say anything! Hiss! Aiyaya! You, just go ask him yourself! Stop bothering me."
Han Jiayang impatiently scratched his head, then shooed Zhen Yu away as if swatting a fly.
-
Seeing this, Zhen Yu stood up and headed towards the kitchen.
She bumped into Han Mingyue outside the kitchen, carrying a plate of freshly washed apples and pears.
"Let’s go." Han Mingyue gestured with a nod of his head for Zhen Yu to follow him to his room.
Zhen Yu nodded and followed behind him.
"Open the door." Han Mingyue, holding the plate, called Zhen Yu over to open the door.
"Oh." Zhen Yu turned the doorknob, stood aside to let him in, and then followed, closing the door behind her.
Han Mingyue set the fruit plate on the bedside table, turned, and pulled out a notebook to hand to Zhen Yu.
Zhen Yu naturally reached out to take it; it was the script for the New Year’s Day hosting.
With only one week left until New Year’s Day, the final selection of programs for the singing competition had been determined and arranged in order.
Han Mingyue’s script was carefully annotated with opening remarks, separate lines for male and female hosts, program names, and concluding words.
Glancing through it casually, Zhen Yu found no modifications.
Zhen Yu looked up and asked, "Did you copy this out?"
"Yeah, I showed it to Mr. Fang, and he said it’s good to use. Memorize it!" Han Mingyue said, then sat down to read his book.
-
Zhen Yu was taken aback by his attitude, but somehow, Han Jiayang’s words "He said he can’t go" popped into her mind. As her thoughts whirled, she had already dragged a chair next to Han Mingyue.
When she snapped back to reality, Zhen Yu gave a flickering glance at the chair, then seated herself opposite the boy.
Han Mingyue feigning indifference: "..."
Why are you sitting so close to me??!!
I can’t focus on my book anymore!!!
Zhen Yu reached out to tug on the boy’s sleeve to get his attention, but the boy merely moved his lips and asked, "What’s up?"
"Yeah." Zhen Yu dropped her hand, feeling somewhat defeated, and lowered her head while she idly flipped through the script, saying, "From now on, you come find me."
Han Mingyue abruptly turned his head, staring at the top of the girl’s head.
Amidst the rustling of pages, the girl’s voice was soft, but he still clearly heard her words.
Han Mingyue’s voice was strained as he said, "Didn’t you say your grandma had arrived?"
Zhen Yu, feeling restless, casually replied, "I had someone take her away."
Han Mingyue withdrew his gaze, turning back to stare at his book and said, "Okay."
-
Both did not speak again, but slowly focused on the book and the script.
Zhen Yu read it thrice to get the gist, then began to silently rehearse, adjusting the emotion in her words as she went along.
After rehearsing in silence five times, she stood up, wanting to find a corner outside to try reading out loud softly.
She had barely taken a few steps when Han Mingyue’s voice came from behind, "Where are you going? Read it here!"
Upon hearing this, Zhen Yu stopped in her tracks, the corners of her mouth uncontrollably curling upwards.
Suppressing her smile, she turned around and handed the script to the boy, "Then help me practice the lines!"
Han Mingyue took the script and took a deep breath, "Alright!"
"I’m starting."
