Chapter 325: Chapter 265: The Net Closing Operation Begins (Subscription Requested!)_1

While Tang Qing and Wang Yan were in the classroom.

The neighboring country, Thailand.

Bangkok.

At the top floor of a luxurious eight-story hotel in downtown, there were two people in a large suite.

The leader of Bangkok’s largest and oldest underworld force, Phipa, was sitting on a sofa in the reception room, frowning deeply, smoking a cigar. His right-hand man, Tila, was flipping through various documents on the tea table.

Tila had been called over by Phipa early in the morning and was handed a pile of documents. Phipa didn’t provide any explanation, he just asked Tila to read them thoroughly.

Tila did as he was told earnestly, unsure as to why Phipa had asked him to look at these documents. These were mostly bios of some people and snippets of various incidents that had happened recently in Bangkok’s underworld forces. Most of the information was something he already knew, leaving him scratching his head.

Once he’d scanned over everything, Tila closed the files and documents, looking at Phipa quizzically. "Big shot, what about these files? Something you need to inform me about?" He asked.

Phipa didn’t answer directly. He took a deep puff of his cigar and exhaled a cloud of smoke, relishing in the sweet aroma. But, usually his favorite cigar tasted like nothing now.

"Tila, did you find anything in these documents?" Phipa asked, furrowing his brow.

Hearing Phipa’s terse tone, Tila pondered carefully. Taking into account everything he’d just read. Phipa’s words suggested a serious issue hidden in the documents. All the documents given to him were apparently connected. Connected? Suddenly, a thought struck Tila.

Rushing, Tila flipped through the documents again. He had even more of an idea of what was going on now, but without any evidence, he didn’t dare shoot off about any theories. He hesitantly but meaningfully said, "Big shot, I didn’t see anything specific, but I have a few guesses. After reading all this, there seem to be many strange occurrences."

"Haha, what strange occurrences?" Phipa said with half a smile.

Tila realized from Phipa’s expression that something was up. After composing himself, he said, "Big shot, I saw that in those documents, ever since Ba Song’s death, there has been constant friction and conflict among all the small and big underworld forces in Bangkok. Initially, we and a few other large forces tried to mediate the situation and profit from it, successfully on some occasions. However, each time an unexpected incident would occur and things would go out of control again. I hadn’t noticed it earlier as there were many incidents spread over a long period. But, seeing everything in front of me like this, it’s too suspicious..."

Done talking, Tila looked at Phipa for confirmation, hoping to know whether he was thinking along the right lines. As he talked, more and more ideas filled his head, along with a growing number of suspicions.

"What else?" Phipa said, his smile vanishing.

"What else?" Tila said, utterly puzzled. He couldn’t think of anything else.

Phipa paused for a moment before gravely saying a single word, "People."

"People? Big shot, what do you mean?" Tila asked, befuddled.

"Didn’t you notice, an unusually large number of new faces have popped up among the ranks of those forces?" said Phipa solemnly.

Tila remembered that the files had indeed contained information about leaders of the various underworld forces, with a noticeable number of new faces. But he hadn’t thought much of it then, as their line of work often saw new faces. Then, upon being reminded by Phipa, came an astonishing realization. Horrified, Tila said, "Big shot, are you saying... it can’t be. Would anyone be audacious enough to scheme against all the underworld forces in Bangkok?"

This speculation was truly horrifying. The fact that everyone in Bangkok might be puppeted by someone, their constant conflicts and struggles resulting from a game, and the forces’ eventual goal being to... win. If this was a setup, when the time came to clear the net, it might just scoop them all up, offering them as a tasty ’dish’ to whoever was pulling the strings from behind the scenes.

Phipa watched his most trusted underling’s expression with a bitter smile. It hadn’t been easy to obtain this heap of data through his most reliable men and ’moles.’ He’d harbored suspicions before, but they were just that – suspicions. Yet, after going through the documents, he was just as shocked as Tila was now and had yet to calm down.

"Indeed, I too hadn’t thought about it. But I found out through the information gathered from various places that every time someone wanted to keep the peace, something would happen. Then, there would always be some ’newcomers’ reaping the benefits, ultimately gaining more power and status." Phipa slowly revealed his own speculations.

After saying all this, Phipa looked at the dumbfounded Tila and slowly continued, "Yes, I believe all of this is part of a grand scheme. We’ve all been manipulated. Starting from Ba Song’s death, culminating in the deaths of the leaders of various forces, in addition to the never-ending chaos and conflicts amongst the different forces. Everything is connected: their ultimate goal might be to replace us."

Tila took a deep breath to suppress the fear within him before asking, "Big shot, who exactly are they?"

Phipa shook his head bitterly and said, "I have no idea. Whoever has the ability to set up such a grand and precise scheme is by no means ordinary." If he knew, he would have taken action directly. With his connections in Thailand, he could play both the underworld and official forces against each other. However, he didn’t know who his enemy was, and only became aware of abnormalities yesterday morning. He spent last night reviewing the gathered information.

"Should I have someone seized for a thorough interrogation?" Tila proposed.

Phipa waved his hand dismissively, saying, "No need to rush. Even if we find out, what then? Especially when confronting such a master chess player. Let’s not startle the snake by hitting the grass; if we arrest their people now, they might strike before we are ready.

We have a good guess at their objective, so if we team up with the bosses of various factions, we can weed them out before they fully mobilize.

Therefore, Tila, notify the old friends we’ve known for many years now. Tell them I’d like to have tea and discuss how we’ll distribute the flour in the next half of the year. The newly-emerging figures are of no concern and will be left unchecked. Also, their newly promoted subordinates are not to accompany them. We’ll meet here."

"Boss, aren’t you afraid they’ll capture us all at once if we gather together? Couldn’t we just notify them by phone?" Tila said, expressing her concerns.

"Don’t worry, I bet they wouldn’t dare do that. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have played this game so meticulously. Without direct contact, I can’t fully believe the stance of those old friends. It’s best to act today, the longer the night, the more dreams to tackle. Delegate this to our subordinates, and they must not leave this place.

I can see their strategy clearly now - a slow infiltration and replacement, creating chaos. If they had completely eliminated us, the higher-ups would definitely notice. They couldn’t hide such a mass disappearance. Hmph, if they want to take their time, I won’t give them that luxury. After eradicating all of them, I’m going to make them taste my wrath. They all need to die." Phipa said with a sneer. Having lived this long, such trickery and deceit from even his own men makes him livid.

"Alright, I understand", Tila responded.

With that, Tila began reaching for her mobile phone to call their contacts.

"The number you have dialed is temporarily unavailable..."

"This guy, where could he be?" Tila muttered, then dialed the next number. With Thailand’s current telecommunication coverage still lacking, it was common for signals to be inaccessible in remote areas, so Tila didn’t think much of it.

But then...

The call to the second big shot failed, the same automated message played.

The third one...

The fourth one...

...

Tila went through all of the numbers of the well-known big shots in Bangkok saved in her phone.

But none of the calls got through.

One or two unresponsive numbers could be chalked up to signal issues.

But if none of the numbers were reachable, it certainly wasn’t due to them all being unavailable at the same time. She had just successfully made a call earlier, and there was no issue with the phone itself, which meant there was only one explanation.

With this realization, the expressions on the faces of Phipa and Tila changed rapidly, and there was panic in their eyes.

The cell phone signal here has been blocked.

Which implies... they are planning to close the net in advance?
