Chapter 119: A little kitten

Chapter 119: A little kitten

The next second, the lights were back. Jazmine Harrison blinked, too stunned to look anywhere when a pair of arms reached out and pulled her back.

"You are too daring. When a woman senses someone in her home this late at night, the first thing she should do is run for help."

In his arms, Jazmine looked up and smiled. "If I had run, your plan would’ve been ruined."

"What plan?" Sebastian Crowne acted innocent.

Jazmine pointed into the bedroom. "What are you hiding? I know there’s someone else in the room." He had purposely obscured her vision by pulling her back when the lights came on—and it must’ve been him who turned them off in the first place.

Sebastian sighed. "Why is it so difficult to hide something from you?"

"There is someone!" Jazmine hadn’t been sure at first. "Thanks for confirming!"

Sebastian: "..."

Jazmine ran into the bedroom, then paused. Inside the room, there was no one. "Why is there no one?" she asked as Sebastian walked into the room behind her, looking around with a puzzled expression.

Her eyes fell onto a shaking, packaged box on her bed. The noise was coming from within it. Without waiting for Sebastian, she climbed onto the bed and opened the roughly packed box. He stood beside the bed, watching her eagerly open the box like a kid on Christmas morning.

"Easy. You do not want to provoke her. She’s not very nice if provoked," he warned.

"Her?" Jazmine’s excitement peaked. With both hands, she picked out a fluffy white thing from the box. Its marble green eyes stared straight into Jazmine’s eyes.

"This is..." Jazmine was at a loss for words.

"I know, right? Her eyes are just like yours. That’s why I chose her. I thought you’d like her," Sebastian said, anxiously awaiting her reaction.

But eye color wasn’t what Jazmine was thinking about. The furry little thing squirmed in her hands and jumped away. It fixed its claws into the bedsheet and snarled at her like it was offended by being treated too casually. Jazmine laughed at the cute reaction and reached her hand out to pat her.

"Don’t be hasty. They said she’s a difficult one. She might not like it if you touch her before she knows you."

"I know how to tame this sort."

Sebastian watched as Jazmine reached out her hand anyway. The cat tried to avoid her, jumping to another spot on the bed. But Jazmine didn’t give up—her hand followed its movement, and in the end, she succeeded in patting her.

"I’m your new master. You should be good to me." The cat responded with a low meow.

"She’s feral," Jazmine laughed, "Yet cute. What’s her name?"

As if pleased with the compliment, the cat shed her guard and actively jumped into Jazmine’s lap.

Jazmine felt her heart melt. "I’ve always wanted a cat. I was just too busy to plan getting one. I can’t thank you enough!" She hugged the cat tightly.

"She doesn’t have a name yet. How about you name her?" Sebastian got onto the bed and leaned closer, hoping to join the hug—but the cat snarled at him, and he froze.

"Looks like she doesn’t like you," Jazmine said, patting the cat to calm her.

"Why would she? I stuffed her in that box for you," Sebastian grumbled.

"You didn’t need to do that. Why would you force her when she was unwilling? Poor kitty. I’m with her on this one." She hugged the cat tightly and glared at him.

Sebastian: "..." He had a bad feeling about this.

Jazmine noticed his expression. "Don’t worry. I won’t ignore you. After all, you brought her to me. You’ll always be the first." She kissed his cheek, then picked up the cat and walked out. "Let’s go. The soup will get cold."

Sebastian stayed on the bed for a long time, staring after her. "You really need to stop doing that before you’re completely mine." He didn’t think Jazmine understood how even a light kiss on the cheek could make him feel.

Jazmine played with the cat on the couch while Sebastian ate the soup—grumpily. Strangely, he didn’t even notice the extra spice she had requested. He was too upset to taste anything.

"Don’t look so sad." Jazmine couldn’t help but laugh. He was acting like a kid.

"I wanted to take you out, and you already had dinner without me. You’re not keeping your promise. I guess I’ll have no choice but to have you move in with me."

"Don’t you dare act smart with me. You’re literally sitting beside me, spending time with me. And how long has it been since we last met? What—six hours? Why are you acting like a nagging wife?" Jazmine didn’t know what to do with him.

Truthfully, she had brought the soup just so she didn’t have to go out. In Beijing City, people knew her—and she was still married. Until she was divorced, she couldn’t afford to be seen with Sebastian. She didn’t want to spark rumors.

"Are you scared of people?"

Jazmine: "..."

She forgot he could read her like an open book, just from her face.

"As long as I’m here, you don’t need to fear anyone. Anyone who dares to taint your name won’t see daylight again. You can always rely on me."

But she didn’t want to rely on anyone. She said nothing—just played with the cat’s little paw.

Later that night, Jazmine had hoped for a peaceful sleep alone.

But Sebastian Crowne had other plans.
