To Kiara, marriage seemed like a mere shell–her own abilities were sufficient for a stable life in society. It was only for his sake that she was willing to enter the union of marriage, stepping into the world within these walls.
“The youngest brother of the Yuno family is a jerk.”
“Who do you think would be the most upset, the most self-reproachful, if I were to lose my temper today?”
Kiara didn’t join in on bad-mouthing Camden, because she knew that Indri Yuno was the same as her: Criticizing her own brother was one thing, but she’d hold a grudge if someone else did it for even a minute.
Indri Yuno seemed to understand something as she stood in front of the mirror, staring blankly at Kiara.
Kiara patted her on the shoulder, “I’m returning this afternoon. If you don’t want to step into the marriage siege, you’d better make a quick getaway.”
Third Brother of the Yuno Family stiffened, “Are you saying…?!”
Kiara stretched out a hand, making a number five gesture.
Mother Yuno had waited for so long, aiming to use the youngest brother’s wedding as a chance to pin down the Third Brother for arranged dates. She had carefully chosen at least five potential matches from a stack of photos. After the wedding banquet, she would definitely corner the Third Brother.
“I’m leaving right away.” The Third Brother of the Yuno Family nodded to Kiara, “I owe you one for this favor.”
Kiara curled the corners of her mouth.
If there was anyone in this world who wasn’t suited for marriage, it must be the type like Third Brother of the Yuno Family. She loved freedom too much and was too fond of being carefree, unwilling to sacrifice or compromise for anyone.
And in the corner of her heart dealing with emotions, there surely was a secret unknown to others.
“Oh, right, this is for you–happy wedding. I wish you and the youngest brother love and bicker to the end.” The Third Brother of the Yuno Family hurried a few steps, then turned back, pulled out a small box from her pocket, and handed it to Kiara. It was a wedding gift she had prepared for Kiara.
Kiara opened the box, and inside was a very delicate brooch that seemed to be made of diamonds and platinum.
The Third Brother, being a big star, earned a lot and also managed her finances through investments, but buying such a gift was still beyond her financial reach.
Kiara immediately noticed something was off.
“Amelia.” Kiara stopped her.
Indri Yuno turned back, “Is there something else?”
“This gift, you didn’t buy it yourself, did you?”
“Someone gave it to me, and I never really had the chance to wear it. It’s perfect for you.”
“Keep it for yourself. Next time, give me something different.” Kiara pushed the box back to her.
“When did you become so polite?” Indri Yuno frowned. She remembered Kiara as a very carefree person. Why was she being so fussy about accepting a gift?
She was straightforward and liked to be friends with straight shooters.
“It’s not about being polite. Do you know what this brooch you gave me signifies?”
“What significance could there be in an accessory?”
“The green diamond symbolizes undying loyalty. Are you sure you want to hand over someone else’s loyalty to me?”
As soon as Kiara saw the diamond, she knew who had given it to the Third Brother.
Because that person had gone through a lot of trouble to secure this rare green diamond with a year’s earnings overseas and had even held a celebration with drinks for her and Camden back then.
The setting process had also been painstakingly done with great care.
Now that Indri Yuno was giving it away casually, that person’s heart must be broken, right?
“Loyalty? Haha, that’s funny.” Indri Yuno turned around and pushed the box back into Kiara’s hands.
“Psychological expert, how can you still be so naive after studying this field? Don’t you know that there’s no such thing as loyalty in this world? It’s just that most people can’t afford the cost of betrayal. Just take it.”
Then she turned and left without hesitation, leaving Kiara toying with the small box she left behind, her gaze deep as she watched her leave.
The recent conversation seemed to be quite revelatory.
“Kiara, Auntie asked me to see if you were alright and that she still has guests to attend to,” Zeke Sean came from the other end of the room, his eyes evidently searching for something.
He had clearly seen Amelia following Kiara out just moments ago, but why was it that at the bathroom door, he could only see Kiara alone?
“Is Amelia still inside–what is that?!” Zeke Sean noticed the box in Kiara’s hands.
It was something he had given away; he was all too familiar with it. How could it be in Kiara’s hands?
“It’s the wedding gift she gave me.”
With a single sentence, Kiara had drained all color from Zeke Sean’s face.
To acquire this green diamond, he had spent an entire year’s revenue.
Over the past two years, Zeke Sean had developed his business immensely in Linville, having established several branches of his hot pot chain, as well as owning an appliance store in Q City.
Although considered the least favorite and the least successful child at home, these past few years, he had been striving to win Amelia’s affection.
The green diamond of this carat was already quite rare.
He believed that the vibrant green was most suited for the spontaneous and free-spirited Amelia, and only a gem of this rare and pricey stature was worthy of an unmatched beauty.
Besides, green represented a loyal and steadfast love, and his unwavering dedication had been nonchalantly regifted without a second thought.
Kiara looked at Zeke Sean with a hint of sympathy; the poor guy must be deeply shocked.
Zeke Sean couldn’t bother with more conversation with Kiara; he snatched the box from her hands then bolted away–he had to confront her directly and find out why!
After sprinting all the way, he finally spotted Amelia on the street, about to get into a car. Out of breath, Zeke Sean grabbed her arm. Indri Yuno turned and greeted him with a beaming smile.
“What’s up, you want to drive me back home? Sure, then you can dismiss the taxi,” she said.
The yellow taxi drove away.
Zeke Sean saw her smiling as usual, but his heart grew colder.
In her eyes, was he just a driver at her beck and call?
“This, I want to know why you gave it away,” he said, holding the box, forcing back his anger.
Amelia glanced at it and nonchalantly remarked, “Oh, that.”
Again, that carefree tone, that indifferent expression.
For a long time, no matter how much Zeke Sean gave, Amelia always reciprocated in this manner.
She wasn’t cruel to him–she even considered him a friend–but beyond that, there was nothing else.
She was always lukewarm towards others, but she would smile at him, yet it wasn’t the smile he yearned for.
In the sweltering weather, her smile alone was enough to freeze his heart instantly.
“Do you know how hard I worked to find this? I attended two auctions overseas and then–you just gave it away?”
Anything else could have been given away, but not this, not this one thing symbolizing his devotion. Yet it seemed so trivial to her.
“Wasn’t it you who gave this to me?”
“Yes!” How could he forget the feeling of searching for that diamond? He would spend as much money on her as he had, unhesitatingly. He didn’t ask for her to immediately reciprocate his feelings, but couldn’t she at least not be so cruel?
“Since you gave it to me, it’s mine to deal with, right? Zeke Sean, are you upset? When did you become so petty?”
“Petty… you’re calling me petty?”
Zeke Sean felt this was the cruelest day he had ever experienced, as the woman he had liked for so long uttered such heartless words with an inconsequential expression.
