Chapter 1319: Chapter 1291: The Muscular Lu Renjia is Titian’s Angel Chapter 1319: Chapter 1291: The Muscular Lu Renjia is Titian’s Angel “Emma Clark, did you hear that? She’s said as much!” Zoel Cohen’s face darkened from head to toe.
“Since that’s the case, I won’t meddle in your affairs any longer, you two can sort it out yourselves.”
“Sort out what? Isn’t everything fine as it is?” Aka clearly didn’t want to talk, and any attempt Zoel made to speak was quickly silenced by her retort.
“Exactly! Everything is fine!” Zoel pressed his lips together in a tight smile.
With both parties having said their piece, Kiara felt it wasn’t her place to interfere any further. However, Aka’s reactions and Zoel’s expressions provided Mrs. Kiara with her fair share of entertainment.
The auction wasn’t until the next day, so in the meantime, Kiara took Aka shopping. Throughout the entire trip, Aka behaved as if nothing was amiss, chatting with Mrs. Kiara and playing with Wendy. They bought quite a few things at the Market Mall, and just as they were coming down the stairs, they saw Zoel leading a group of people towards them.
From their attire, it looked like they just finished a business negotiation, and Zoel’s expression upon seeing Kiara and Aka seemed like a chance encounter.
Zoel said a few words to the people with him, then headed straight towards Kiara and her group.
“Have you eaten?” he asked, inadvertently glancing over at Aka.
As Zoel approached, Aka broke into a natural, wide smile.
“Nope, are you treating us to lunch?”
Her demeanor was like that of an ordinary friend. Had Zoel’s body not still retained the memory of yesterday’s passion, he might have thought this carefree woman wasn’t the same one with whom he’d been intimate.
“I was actually quite busy, but since you’ve put it so reluctantly, I guess treating you to a meal wouldn’t be too much trouble,” Zoel said, trying to suppress an inexplicable irritation bubbling within him.
Kiara’s smile brimmed with meaning, “Oh, you really shouldn’t strain yourself; just reimburse us for our meal afterward.”
Zoel glared at Kiara, wondering which country she hailed from.
Kiara pouted; she was merely a bystander who enjoyed a good show, or you might call her a righteous little angel.
“Right, keep the money and be on your way,” Aka chimed in, supporting Kiara’s suggestion.
Even Wendy in Kiara’s arms mimicked her mother’s expression, trying hard to push out a look of disdain with her chubby baby face.
Zoel’s intentional “casual” encounter was succinctly deflected by them.
Aka’s aloofness pricked at him again.
He had thought that Aka would harbor some lingering feelings for him. He wasn’t entirely against dating her. Of course, Mr. Zoel had always been committed to staying single and marriage was definitely out of the question, but having a girlfriend wasn’t completely off the table.
But that was what he thought, and she clearly did not care. There truly were women who lived with even more carefree attitudes than men. Mr. Zoel had truly seen it all.
Kiara watched Zoel’s seemingly nonchalant retreat and casually remarked,
“Some people are just too flamboyant. They’re dealt a good hand but play it terribly, all for the sake of being ‘cool’ and saving face.”
Zoel stumbled, turned his head to glare at Kiara, who glared right back without a shred of hesitation. Scared, are we? So, you’re admitting to it?
Thus, Zoel had to walk away with resentment, vaguely hearing the two women’s conversation behind him.
“Mrs. Kiara, what were you saying about cards?”
“Oh, I was just remembering the jokes about Zoel playing cards. This guy always thinks he’s strategizing, but he often ends up losing the most. Want to hear one of his jokes?”
Zoel was utterly frustrated. Emma Clark was doing this on purpose, absolutely on purpose! Witch!!
“Not interested, it has nothing to do with me.”
Nothing. To. Do. With. Me!
Upon hearing those words, Zoel Cohen quickened his pace. This place was unbearable.
Once Zoel Cohen had gone far enough away, Kiara then asked Aka.
“Are you truly disinterested, or are you afraid of getting hurt?”
Usually frivolous and not the sharpest tool in the shed, Aka seriously responded to the question.
“The Boss taught me that if you can’t have something, you definitely can’t lose it either.”
“Oh?” He taught you that? Kiara’s curiosity was piqued. She didn’t grow up with Yuzo Joel; whereas Aka had been with him all along. She really wanted to know how he educated a child.
“Yeah, the Boss said there are plenty of good things in this world and that there will always be things we go all out for and still can’t get. But that’s not the saddest part. The sad part is when you can’t get something and still throw your dignity into it, losing yourself in the process.”
Kiara mulled over those words again and again. She gulped down this bowl of chicken soup for the soul–he was right.
Whether Aka truly didn’t care or was just pretending didn’t matter. What mattered was that Kiara saw it crystal clear and suddenly felt that she shouldn’t call him a “silly sweet” anymore.
She knew what was in her heart.
That afternoon, Aka wanted to take Mrs. Kiara and Wendy to tour the sights of the Imperial Capital. Kiara, however, seemed to have already made plans and declined Aka’s offer to go by herself, choosing to stay in the room with her daughter instead.
Camden Yuno, that guy, came last night to flirt, and had been missing ever since, probably caught up in some high-level meeting.
Kiara couldn’t be bothered to think about what that thick-skinned guy was up to now and just held her daughter, flipping through the Auction catalogue.
With the air conditioner on in the hotel, it was quite warm. Kiara only dressed Wendy in a little onesie and tied a bib around her. The child was teething and drooling a lot, so the cartoon bib would need to be changed before long.
“Wendy, which do you think looks good?” Kiara held her daughter’s chubby hand and pointed at the items in the catalogue.
“Daddy!” Wendy said that’s the most 666.
Kiara showed a satisfied smile, stroking her child’s head in praise.
“Wendy is so clever, knowing that Mommy wants to buy this for Daddy as a birthday Gift!”
Zoel Cohen couldn’t stand listening any longer.
“Emma Clark, could you be any more nonsensical? That page you’re on has just one photo, you didn’t give my goddaughter any choice at all!”
This was the so-called bamboozling of a child!
“Having a choice is of course good, but some people have too many choices and end up not knowing what they really want. Isn’t that right, Wendy?”
“Dad!” Wendy drooled, a high-value cutie could make even drooling look adorable, not irritating at all.
Kiara wiped her child’s mouth with a small handkerchief and tossed her a Teething Stick.
Zoel Cohen thought harder and felt something was off. Why did he feel like Kiara’s words were loaded with a hidden message?
Wendy was a very lively Baby, barely able to sit still, but her hands and feet never stopped moving. Holding the Teething Stick, she gestured back and forth. Kiara showed incredible patience with her child, not bothered at all, which made Zoel tired just watching.
“You should just bring a Nanny when going out. Doing everything by yourself is surely exhausting,” Zoel criticized.
“You always look at issues subjectively, like with parenting. You see the Baby relying on me, but what I feel is that I’m the one dependent on her, cherishing the warmth she gives me. Some people fancy themselves as saviors, treating even a bit of affection as if it’s charity. Yet, they don’t realize the other person might not even need that charity. Of course, I was just like you before, but now I have a Home, and my thoughts have changed. You, however, are still stuck in the same place.”
“Emma Clark, do you need to speak to me in such roundabout ways?” Zoel Cohen felt a surge of frustration, unable to swallow it nor spit it out.
