“He didn’t say anything, it was all my wild guessing.”
Edward Farmbright looked at Kiara in surprise. He had thought this cunning little girl would seize the opportunity to make things worse, but instead, she was hiding the truth for him. What exactly was she trying to do?
Previously at sword’s point, antagonistic upon meeting and snapping at each other, but she did not take this chance to implicate him!
After understanding the situation, Kiara did not rush to speak about the tampered hard drive; she had a dual purpose in mind.
Kiara, having given birth, was not yet back to her full physical strength, but her thinking was active, even sharper than before she had the baby.
Kiara drew the line, probing for the information she wanted and then did not delve further into the issue. Instead, it was Edward Farmbright who felt uneasy throughout, constantly wondering what Kiara truly meant.
After some idle chat, the door burst open, and Kiara’s mother ran in, panic-stricken.
“This is bad! Our baby’s been kidnapped!”
“What?!” Kiara asked urgently, feeling a darkness closing in on her.
“What happened?”
Yuzo Joel and the others also went pale.
“Wasn’t I just taking the child to swim downstairs? The child was inside, and I was watching through the glass…”
Kiara’s mother, still unsettled, quickly outlined the recent events in a few sentences.
The Maternity Hospital’s inpatient department was on the fourth floor, and the bathing facilities were on the second floor. Kiara’s mother took the baby to swim and watched through the glass. The pool was rather large, capable of accommodating several babies at once. Besides Kiara’s mother, there was another family watching their child.
Kiara’s mother had always been skeptical about infant swimming, always fearing her granddaughter’s life ring would slip off. If it weren’t for Kiara and the others insisting, she wouldn’t have wanted to bring the baby down at all. Once there, her eyes were glued on the child in fear of any problems.
After the swim, Kiara’s mother was ready to go back upstairs with the baby.
She was waiting for the elevator with the hospital-provided stroller when suddenly a crowd arrived. Kiara’s mother was pushed back a few steps and before she could gather her senses, she saw a woman holding Wendy rushing towards the stairs. In that moment, Kiara’s mother was stunned.
People often have a few seconds of blankness when faced with emergency situations. By the time she snapped back and gave chase, the woman had reached the stairwell, gone downstairs, and the kidnapper had the child in a car waiting outside, quickly driving away.
As Kiara’s mother chased, she shouted about the kidnapping, but the others in the hospital were either too slow to respond or unwilling to get involved, leaving only a couple of people to help in the chase. Seeing the kidnappers’ car drive off, Kiara’s mother was so frantic she was about to cry. Just then, a young man stepped forward, offering to chase them in his car and advising Kiara’s mother to quickly call the police.
After hearing the whole story, Kiara felt she was about to faint. Her daughter!
Mother Yuno entered and, seeing Kiara’s mother, asked.
“Family, where is Wendy? I went downstairs to look for you and didn’t see you. When did you get back?”
“Wendy…” Kiara’s mother’s knees gave way, and she collapsed to the floor in tears.
She felt useless, having let her child be kidnapped right in front of her.
Mother Yuno, not understanding the situation, supported her while asking for details. Once she understood the dreadful news, she was also in shock.
At this critical moment, Kiara scrambled to call Mario Yuno. Contacting Mario Yuno at a time like this was even more effective than calling the police. Upon hearing the news, Mario Yuno exploded with urgency, asking for the car’s license plate and immediately deploying a plan to capture the kidnappers; every second counted.
Broad daylight, and such a daring act took place right in the hospital–a blatant outrage!
Yuzo Joel exchanged a glance with Aka, who nodded. She turned and left; she was going to help search for the child.
“Kiara, don’t worry, I’m sure we’ll find the child,” Yuzo Joel reassured Kiara, he had never seen her so frantic before.
“I’m going to look for my child.” Kiara got up and headed outside, but everyone quickly stopped her, considering how weak she was after just giving birth, how could she possibly be of any help?
Just as everyone was in a frenzy, Yuzo Joel’s phone rang.
“Third Brother, I’ve got an emergency here, whatever you have to say can wait,” Yuzo Joel said when he saw the call was from his third apprentice, he had no time for anything else now.
On the other end of the phone, in addition to Third Brother Spencer Tatum’s voice, there was also the heartrending crying of a baby.
“Hold on, don’t hang up in such a hurry, Master. I want to ask, what should I do when a baby won’t stop crying, can I give it some medicine or something?”
“Give it what medicine! When a kid cries it’s obviously because they are missing their mother, you should take her to find her mom–wait a second, a baby?!”
“Yeah, I just left the hospital and saw someone kidnapping a child, so I helped chase them down. Now the kid is with me, along with a few of the kidnappers. I’ve subdued them with drugs. I’m considering whether to deliver them to the police station or take them back for some human drug trials…”
“Bring the child here immediately!”
A few minutes later, Spencer Tatum walked in with a baby in swaddling clothes. Everyone quickly crowded around, and as soon as Kiara saw her, wasn’t this her poor little Wendy!
The little one was wailing miserably. Kiara quickly took her in her arms and gently patted her back. The baby sensed her mother’s scent and stopped crying, but she still sobbed instinctively, her little shoulders trembling pitifully.
Seeing her child like this almost brought tears to Kiara’s eyes. She gently patted her daughter, soothing the baby’s emotions, holding back tears while trying to appear strong.
“Don’t be afraid, baby, Mommy is here, don’t be scared.”
Big tears still lingered in Wendy’s eyes, and looking at her child, Kiara’s heart melted.
“I’ll never leave you behind again, Mommy will never be out of your sight.”
The baby, held by her mother, cooed for a little while and then fell asleep.
As a baby, she couldn’t feel the terror of nearly being kidnapped. Her crying was simply because she felt anxious being held by someone she didn’t like. Now, the little one was contentedly sleeping in her mother’s arms.
She had no idea of the immense fear her brief absence had caused the adults.
Kiara kept her head down, soothing the baby. Kiara’s mother and Mother Yuno thanked Spencer Tatum continuously, especially Kiara’s mother, who was so grateful she almost knelt to him.
Though Kiara’s mother was a victim too, and what happened was unforeseen, even if someone else had been holding the baby, they might not have been able to prevent the kidnapping. But whatever the case, if the child had been lost while with Kiara’s mother, she would have felt her life wasted, too ashamed to face her daughter and son-in-law for the rest of her days.
Thankfully, the child was found, safe and sound.
“Young Spencer, we really owe you this time, Auntie truly thanks you!” Kiara’s mother repeated this many times, as she really didn’t know how else to thank him.
“No need for thanks, I taught them when they were younger that they should never ignore such incidents, and besides, this is about his Junior Sister, it’s a family matter, no need for such formalities,” Yuzo Joel comforted Kiara’s mother.
Meanwhile, Third Senior Brother Spencer Tatum, who was being thanked like a hero by everyone, kept his gaze fixed on Kiara.
Kiara was glowing with maternal radiance at that moment, lovingly looking at the child in her arms. Spencer Tatum watched Kiara, filled with confusion. He glanced at Edward Farmbright beside him.
His eyes seemed to ask, “Eldest Brother, didn’t you say she was a once-in-a-century villainess? Where is the arrogance from looming with privilege as a Junior Leader? Where is the sharp-tongued annoyance? Wasn’t Emma Clark the one who nearly got the Teacher to die?”
