Chapter 1276: Chapter 1248 This is a Demonic Document Chapter 1276: Chapter 1248 This is a Demonic Document For years, the father she’s called became George, next door, overnight–her origins shrouded in mystery. Yuzo Joel suddenly left, fate unknown…
If she weren’t pregnant, she would have been able to muster that ‘I am Mrs. Kiara, who do I fear?’ attitude to overcome these things, and certainly wouldn’t have let herself fall into depression. But now, during her pregnancy, even a minor incident can upset her, a hormonal imbalance leaving her vulnerable. For instance, she was terribly upset over a small mistake Tony Stone made while playing cards on behalf of Zenith Kyan, let alone the fact that Kiara is now dealing with both her real father and George, next door, disappearing simultaneously. What Kiara didn’t know was that there were other reasons for her unusual emotions at the moment, but that’s a story for later.
Beautiful Lady couldn’t understand what Kiara was saying, but a pet’s intuition is often sharp. It sensed Kiara’s sadness and desperation, making extra efforts to comfort her, even placing its paw on Kiara’s stomach and making a whimpering expression, as if to say, “You’ve got to pull yourself together.”
Kiara felt a deep appreciation and forced her spirits up, “Yes, I must pull myself together. I am now a mother, and I have a baby in my belly, and I have so many loving family members by my side…”
She looked around the layout of her home, every detail filled with her family’s love.
Her father-in-law, mother-in-law, mother, stepfather, and so many good friends… everyone was caring for her.
Especially her Camden.
Mario Yuno was so busy with work, yet he still found time to spend with Kiara every day, speaking to the child through her stomach. But he couldn’t always leave work on time every night. Once he came home late and Kiara was already asleep. Waking up, she saw him, still in his crisp military uniform, slumped against the headboard, apparently having fallen asleep from exhaustion while watching her. Kiara nudged him, and he jerked awake. By then it was morning, and with no time for more sleep, he washed his face and went back to his workplace organisation.
This feeling touched Kiara very deeply.
Now immersed in a jar of honey, what’s the difference? Everyone around her was being kind, but why was she still so sad?
Pregnancy-related depression is hard to control, and the love of family sometimes adds pressure. Kiara was caught in this dilemma.
She knew depression was bad for the child, and the family was looking forward to the baby’s arrival. The more she tried to cheer up, the more despondent she became. Seeing Camden even brought Professor Liu Taylor over, she forced herself to pull together and not worry the family.
When Mario Yuno came home at night and saw Kiara laughing heartily with a comic book, surrounded by empty snack boxes, he felt relieved.
It seemed Aunt Liu Taylor’s treatment was effective. It was truly wonderful to see her returning to her usual self.
Kiara observed his concerned expressions and laughed even more joyously.
For the sake of those who loved her, she had to be strong, even if it meant just pretending.
Mario Yuno was busy with work and could only spend limited time with Kiara. During the day, whether it was Mother Yuno or Kiara’s mother, no one could provide the detailed attention like Mario Yuno did. No one noticed Kiara’s odd behavior; they simply saw her laughing more and thought it was a good sign.
Until one night, Camden was woken up by a faint sound. In silence, he opened his eyes only to witness a scene that broke his heart.
There was Kiara, curled up into a ball with her back to him, facing the wall, her shoulders heaving in a suppressed sobbing.
Mario Yuno couldn’t forget that scene–a painful stab to his heart.
His heart felt as if had been viciously slashed several times.
He wanted to reach out and embrace her but never did. She acted normal during the day, not wanting anyone to notice her sadness, keeping her tears for the night. If he made any noise now and let her know he’d seen her, the pressure on her would only increase.
Professor Liu Taylor had already informed him about the depression impacting pregnant women. He empathized deeply with Kiara’s pain, suddenly understanding the sorrows hidden behind her brave smiles. She must be trying very hard to reassure everyone, doing her utmost.
Only in the quiet of the night did she allow herself to release this depression.
He desperately wanted to get up right now, to give her a warm haven, but at this moment, he could do nothing but watch Kiara suffer.
After waiting a while longer, he heard Kiara get up, carefully dressing herself.
Mario Yuno kept his eyes closed but could hear the sound of her turning on the computer.
So late at night, what was his daughter-in-law doing on the computer?
Seizing the moment when Kiara wasn’t paying attention, Mario Yuno stealthily opened his eyes and peeked over, Kiara seemed to be looking at something full of dense text. The computer desk was a little too far away for him to see clearly, so he silently got up and stood behind her.
The screen displayed a collection of dense text, mostly in English. Fortunately, Camden was an academic ace and could understand some of it. After reading a couple of lines, he realized these were medical records from the hard drive that Edward Farmbright had brought over.
“It’s so late, why are you still looking at this?”
His voice startled Kiara, who patted her chest, “You scared me to death. I couldn’t sleep and wanted to take a look.”
When she felt down these past few days, she liked to look at these, the more she looked the more addicted she became.
“Stop looking, you can continue tomorrow during the day.”
Mario Yuno took her back to bed, and even though Kiara couldn’t sleep, he pretended not to know about her crying just a moment ago; they lay side by side. Mario Yuno felt there was an invisible chasm between them and Kiara at this moment.
This gulf in their hearts separated them, despite both desperately trying to treat each other well, it brought so much pressure, yet he was not willing to accept this situation and strived to break down this barrier of love.
“What was that medical record about, the one you were just looking at?” he asked, searching for a topic.
“It’s about smiling depression, I’ve been reading about this lately.”
“Depression with a smile?”
“Yes, these people appear completely normal on the outside, often courteous, hiding their depression behind smiles. Usually, by the time they exhibit suicidal behavior, their families have a hard time believing that the patients were ill.”
Mario Yuno listened with a shiver, “Is this what you’ve been studying these past few days?”
“Not only this, I also read about some emotional disorders that occur after the loss of a loved one. It’s strange to say, but I’ve read so many books and none have been as compelling as the ones described here. When I’m upset, looking at them somehow makes me feel a little better.”
Mario Yuno patted Kiara for a while, and finally, she fell asleep.
When Kiara fell asleep, Mario Yuno got up and went to the computer, reopening the hard drive that had captivated Kiara, searching through the documents inside.
The hard drive was really too large, containing the wisdom of Yuzo Joel’s life, but Mario Yuno effortlessly found the beginning, as the massive hard drive was divided into several documents, each marked with a numerical code, easy to follow in sequence.
He clicked on the first document and started reading through it. He had to admit, it was an incredibly enchanting document.
If someone like Professor Liu Taylor were to read it, they’d find it amazing, no wonder Kiara was mesmerized at a glance. But for a layman like Mario Yuno, this wasn’t right.
