Arlong chuckled.
“I share a room with Thomas, right? The two of us teamed up to steal them–he kept watch while I picked the lock to the trainer’s office, and he covered for me.”
This foolish kid… Mario couldn’t bear to think about it. How could his sister-in-law be so smart yet have such a silly and adorable little brother?
Talking about hiding cookies, a violation of discipline, to the company’s biggest boss with such an open and straightforward manner–it was getting hard for Mario to maintain his righteous expression. Uncle, your IQ is simply… he thought to himself.
“So, what is it you want to talk to me about?”
“I just want to give you some feedback on the inadequacies of the training. Brother-in-law, please have them make some improvements. It’s really not okay to do things this way,” Arlong said, still naively.
He thought what he was asking was perfectly reasonable. He was supposed to have already been slated for the position after all. Going through the assessment should just be a formality. He was simply hoping brother-in-law would give him a fair treatment.
Why the need to be so strict just because he’s your sister-in-law’s brother?
“Okay, I got it,” Mario nodded. He had originally planned to leave, but then he stopped and patted Arlong on the shoulder, wanting to say more but hesitating.
That silly boy Draco thought his brother-in-law was feeling sorry for him and responded with a trustful, simple-minded smile–“I trust you the most, brother-in-law.” It was too much for Mario to bear to watch, so he turned and left.
When he arrived home, he saw Kiara sprawled listlessly on the sofa, and Beautiful Lady just as languidly lying on the cushion. Both master and dog maintained the same spiritless posture, eyeing each other with mutual disdain. Upon hearing the door open, both perked up in unison.
“You’re back!”
“Woof!”
Unwilling to let the other have the last word, Kiara glared at Beautiful Lady, who glared right back at Kiara, the slight bond that they had formed now ruined by the hot spice incident from the day before.
“Husband, you’re back~” Kiara leaned over, subtly kicking Beautiful Lady out of the way. Competing for her man, pah!
“Hmm, feeling better today?” Mario set down the millet porridge he’d brought back and went to wash his hands, preparing to make her some appetizing little dishes.
“Much better. Just don’t feel like eating,” Kiara clung to him like a koala; wherever he went, she followed, which amused Mario.
“Why are you so clingy today?”
“I don’t know; I just like looking at you. My husband is so handsome.” Kiara couldn’t explain what was wrong, only that she didn’t feel like eating, yet her mood was quite good, especially upon seeing him.
Mario was blooming with joy from her praises; life was simply too wonderful.
Both were in high spirits. Kiara lay her head against his back, arms wrapped around his waist, watching him cook, her heart warmed. Time seemed to slow down; it had been a long while since she had felt this good.
Mario saw her being so well-behaved and took the opportunity to tell her about his encounter with Arlong. After listening, Kiara was full of irritation.
“Is he daft? How can he still not know after all this time what should and shouldn’t be said?!”
“It’s not that he’s dumb, he just trusts me too much, which is why I feel a bit guilty… I feel a bit reluctant to go through with it.”
“We must teach him a lesson. Do what you must do. Being reluctant now is the real disservice to him. Do you want to watch him naively waste his days away?”
Kiara has always been like this toward her younger brother, never indulgent when it’s time to be strict.
“I just feel regretful. He trusts me so much, yet I need to do these things.”
“He won’t understand what we’re doing for him in the short term, that’s certain. But for his long-term development, I have to break him in. Be ruthless on your end, and I’ll get ready on mine. Let’s hit him with a pincer attack. If this kid remains foolish, then he only has himself to blame for not making something of his life!”
“Daughter-in-law, I don’t mind if he ends up hating us both. But you – he’s your own flesh and blood after all!”
“I’m well aware that if I go through with this, he will definitely hate me. But Arlong’s personality is such that if you want him to truly succeed, you have to provide him with an ambition and someone to resent. I’d rather he hate me than to see him become so pathetic that I hate him.”
With Kiara’s mind made up, Mario Yuno said no more, and the couple split up to take action.
Meanwhile, after snitching to Mario Yuno, Arlong returned to the Dormitory feeling triumphant. He quietly glanced outside and, finding none of those annoying followers had come along, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.
“Well, did you get it done?” Thomas asked Arlong while munching on biscuits, the others looked at Arlong expectantly.
Arlong was brimming with excitement, “Need I say more? When Draco Clark takes on a task, it’s done right! Relax, stick with me, and you’re all in safe hands, no doubt about it!”
Everyone was overjoyed, raising their biscuits in celebration, having had enough of these days, anxious to get the annoying training over with!
“Exactly how are you related to the vice president, being able to talk to such a cold and distant man?” someone asked.
“It doesn’t matter how I’m related to him, just know that our good days are ahead,” Draco Clark said with utmost confidence. The future he saw in his brother-in-law’s endlessly “sympathetic” glance promised to be bright: becoming CEO, marrying the White Rich Beauty, his tough days were almost over!
“I feel like this whole thing is a bit… iffy,” Thomas fretted.
Before coming here, he had repeatedly pondered one thing – did Mario Yuno know his real identity?
After a previous collaboration with Mario Yuno, Thomas was beaten black and blue by Mario, laying at home for days immobile. The more he thought about it afterward, the more something seemed off – could it be that Mario already knew who he was?
If Mario knew his identity and still dared to beat him, it proved that he was as just and unbiased as the outside world said, cold-faced and selfless.
But this time, arriving here, Mario did not give him any special treatment, and Thomas couldn’t figure out Mario’s character. Supposing Mario knew who he was and still dared to treat him this way, could Arlong truly secure favorable treatment for everyone?
“It’s a sure thing, you guys can trust me with this!” Arlong declared, turning the biscuit bag upside down to eat the last crumbs.
“Did the vice president say when we’re going to be regularized? Did you get tomorrow’s exam paper?”
“He didn’t say…”
“There’s an exam again tomorrow. He didn’t mention anything, so what are we going to do about the assessment? If I fail again, I’ll be sent back to the Old Unit.”
Everyone glanced at each other, looking to Thomas and Arlong, these two being the backbone of the Dormitory and the ones with the ideas.
“Let’s stick to our original plan. We’ll sneak into the company again at midnight. I’ll steal the exam paper, and you guys cover for me.” Arlong had already successfully stolen the exam paper twice using this tactic.
