Kiara’s heart raced with countless alpacas stampeding. Did he really think Edward wouldn’t spot the flaw, and yet he deliberately offered himself up?

“Do you love your daughter-in-law?”

“None of your damn business,” Mario snapped coldly.

Spurred by malice, Thomas originally intended to grab the knife and smash it at Mario but then thought better of it. Instead, he casually pulled a lighter from his pocket and threw it at Mario, who caught it effortlessly, leaving Thomas gawking in astonishment.

Good grief, how could this guy move so fast?

Mario inspected the lighter he caught, a Thief Granny Brand lighter with limited edition Black Ice Heart Angel Wings design. Holding the lighter, his fingers subtly traced around the bottom of the device without showing any change in expression, and the corners of his mouth twitched upward ever so slightly.

He now knew exactly who this mischievous kid was.

Looking again at Kiara’s hands that had been behind her back all this time, Mario mentally aligned all the discordant pieces of the puzzle.

What a girl Emma Clark is… She’d really get a spanking for this prank when we get back. That’s no way to play!

Seeing his imposing role as the leading villain grossly ignored, Thomas, playing the lousy teammate, continued to improvise despite Kiara’s warning glares. He walked up to Geoffrey Cannon, who was holding Kiara hostage, and brandished the knife at her. “Look at you, clearly not loving your daughter-in-law. Since that’s the case, let me spice things up and see how I can scar this pretty girl’s face!”

Thomas waved the knife around Kiara with a buzzing sound, ignoring Mario’s almost fiery glare, and kept muttering to himself.

“One slash to bring a blossom of romance, a second for an old friend to advance, I–”

In truth, Thomas was merely bluffing; how could he actually slash Kiara? He was simply trying to provoke Mario’s wrath as planned, to make him shoot.

However, at that moment, an unexpected change occurred. Kiara, distracted by Thomas’s knife, inadvertently loosened her grip on her hostage. Consequently, Geoffrey Cannon, who she had been holding, suddenly made a move. With a swift reach for Thomas’s hand and a step back, Kiara, who was in front of him, was too late to regain control of him. After all, not everyone possesses the incredible reflexes of Mario.

Geoffrey, perhaps frazzled by the prolonged tension, had lost his ability to stay calm, and he brandished his knife at Kiara, bellowing fiercely.

“Let me go!”

And in that moment, Thomas’s first reaction was to stare at his empty hand. Where was the knife?

Geoffrey, rattled and highly strung, had snatched the knife in an instinctual response, not intending harm. He just wanted to escape quickly, but he hadn’t expected the knife Thomas brought to be so shoddy. Holding the knife handle, Geoffrey watched in disbelief as the blade separated from the handle. The plastic handle remained in his grasp, but the blade had come loose!

The knife consisted of a ‘p’-shaped metal blade fitted into a plastic handle, where the lower half of the blade was supposed to be smaller than the handle and securely glued in place. But for some reason, the blade had come unstuck and flew straight toward Kiara!

If it were to hit Kiara, the consequences would be unimaginable. And all of this happened in a fraction of a second; just as Kiara was about to face the grim fate of being sliced open, there was a loud noise, the blade fell to the ground, and along with it, a specially designed training bullet.

While the bullet couldn’t kill, it still had force behind it.

Kiara looked over at Mario with amazement. Holding a gun, his expression was stoic; it was a look she was all too familiar with, reminiscent of a past life when he had saved her from the bad guys!

In a critical moment, he had overcome his psychological barriers, relying solely on muscle memory to make a precise shot that diverted the knife and saved Kiara!

All of this transpired in the blink of an eye. Before Geoffrey or Thomas could grasp what had happened, they saw Mario’s swift approach. First, he pulled Kiara behind him, then, with a strong kick, Geoffrey was knocked to the ground. Geoffrey lay there in pain, muttering.

“I really am a good guy…”

Mario Yuno commanded with his headphones for someone to come in and make the arrest, then he casually glanced over at Thomas.

From beginning to end, Thomas had the stunned face of an idiot, utterly shocked. It was magical!

So this was the legendary character, indeed living up to his reputation!

It was even more wondrous than what he’d seen on TV, especially the last part. His eyes didn’t even blink and he didn’t see how Mario Yuno drew his gun and fired. How fast can human reflexes possibly be?

From seeing the knife drop to shooting, it was a speed nearly impossible to achieve. He must have been ready to shoot the moment he saw the other person raise the knife, then relied on instinct to make the shot as the knife fell. How mystical was that, as if straight out of a legend.

Thomas had already been overawed by the tough-guy aura emanating from Mario Yuno, instantaneously turning into a fanboy, eyes sparkling with little stars.

Now, that’s a real man among men, an idol!

“Hello, I am–” Thomas extended his hand wanting to shake hands with Mario Yuno, thinking his part was over and it was time to resume his identity and shake hands with his newfound idol.

“You’d better keep quiet now.”

“Why?”

“Because–this!” Mario Yuno decisively threw a punch, landing it in Thomas’s stomach. Thomas bent over in pain, trembling as he gestured towards Mario Yuno.

“Don’t hit… one of your own! I am–ah!”

Before he could announce himself, Mario Yuno yanked him up and started beating him down!

Of course, he knew who the guy was; he just wanted to take the opportunity to beat him before he had the chance to reveal himself. Otherwise, how would he get rid of this pent-up frustration?

Saying Emma Clark was a clever soul was an understatement.

She saw how Mario Yuno took control of the situation in a flash, not beating Geoffrey Cannon but turning his aggression towards Thomas, and she probably understood why.

She must have given herself away…

So Kiara took the chance while everyone was coming in to arrest Geoffrey Cannon to try and make a break for it.

All you could see was Kiara shifting her pretty little boots, shuffling along.

“Escape in fear of punishment adds a degree to the crime!” Mario Yuno said without even turning his head.

Kiara immediately stood at attention, searching for Zenith Kyan’s figure and casting pleading looks at him. Help a comrade out!

“Sister-in-law, here’s your phone.” Zenith Kyan picked up Kiara’s phone from the side and handed it to her, then without daring to see what kind of expression Edward Wheeler had, he took off running.

Don’t say he lacks loyalty, ha! Even Zenith Kyan was scared when Bright Clarity got fired up.

Kiara watched as one of her accomplices was used as a punching bag by Mario Yuno and the other took off without any backbone, leaving her to stand there pitifully. During this time, a few people gave Kiara sympathetic looks.
