Just yesterday, she thought it was a simple case–she even figured it would be nice to take on a few such jobs that were easy and paid well right after her family had bought a new car. Little did she know that such a simple matter had such a big secret hidden behind it.

“Is it too late to return the money now?” Kiara didn’t really want to get involved with these things. Although the illness wasn’t a big problem, getting entangled in outside matters was messy.

“Besides you, no one else can do it. Emma Clark, you represent the Old Yates Family, and anyone who takes on this hot potato will be in danger, only you will not be. You still have to put in some effort in this matter. Make the Old Father happy, then quickly hand over the stuff. My aunt’s family isn’t short on money; however much you want will do.”

Kiara glared at him, “Is this about money? I’m the person who fears trouble the most–right, I’m afraid of trouble, and you must be too, so how did you get involved as well?”

She and Zoel Cohen were like twins in spirit. Whatever she detested, Zoel was sure to dislike as well.

“I’m just considering the bigger picture here,” he said.

“Cut the crap! Do I not know you well enough? Come on, what did your old man promise you? I refuse to believe that without some sort of benefit, you would get involved in such a complicated matter.”

Kiara hit the nail on the head, and Zoel, unable to hide the truth from her any longer, admitted somewhat sheepishly.

“Actually, it’s nothing much. The old man said that as long as I can look after the bigger picture and maintain a certain level, he won’t interfere with my marriage anymore. You know, that crazy woman named Lina Fernandez that my family set me up with last time was so annoying; I can’t handle a few more of those.”

No wonder! Kiara rolled her eyes. She knew this guy wouldn’t have shown up without an ulterior motive.

“You’re just like the type my husband says would even try to taste the dung as a cart carrying it passed through the village, obstinately reluctant to suffer any loss,” she said.

Zoel was drinking coffee when he heard her comment; he sprayed it out, thoroughly disgusted.

“You’re getting crasser by the day! You used to be a fine woman; now you’re all about pulling off those repugnant tricks, learning from Edward Wheeler. What in the world is all this mess!”

Kiara blinked, amused. In fact, these were the words Edward Wheeler used to describe her, but when applied to her spiritual twin, Zoel, they didn’t feel out of place at all.

“Since it’s your family’s matter, it’s not right for me not to care. After all, whoever you marry would be a torment to them, so I still have to help you.”

Zoel instantly grasped the subtext of Kiara’s words.

“Hold on, Emma Clark! How can you talk about helping me when you’re earning my aunt’s money?”

If that witch said “help,” it meant she was angling for a favor.

“I am helping you! Once I sort this matter out, won’t you have autonomy over your marriage? So you see, I am helping you. Zoel, we have such a connection; if I were to charge you money, that would be way too petty.”

A twitch pulled at Zoel’s lips; he was doomed. He was about to be extorted!

“I’m not being unreasonable. I heard you recently acquired a superb palace antique jewelry box inlaid with Cloisonne White Jade from an auction. My jewelry doesn’t fit in mine anymore, and it’s not appropriate for you, a big guy, to keep it around. I’m always ready to lend a hand.”

Zoel felt like spitting blood.

“Are you a female bandit or what? That box took me so much effort to acquire at the auction, and you want to snatch it from me after I’ve only had it for a week?”

“Surely it’s just sitting there with you, and after you’ve had enough of it, you’ll carelessly give it away to your meaningless flings. It’s more valuable in my possession. A jewelry box in exchange for the freedom of your marriage–not a fair trade?”

Zoel Cohen waved his hand weakly and, despite the pain, he said, “Alright, alright, I’ll give it to you, but you’ve got to handle this matter for me clearly. Kiara, full of righteous indignation, argued fervently.

Zoel couldn’t help but laugh at her pretentious act. This woman was accusing him of being greedy, but wasn’t she doing the same?

“We’ve agreed on this, then. I can give you the item, but there’s another thing, Emma Clark, you have to sort out for me. I can’t just give you something valuable for free!”

“What’s that?”

“That Lucy, you’ve got to deal with her for me. You can’t let her keep causing such a fuss!”

It was all because last time Zoel Cohen got the wrong person, which led to Aka holding a deep grudge against him.

Aka’s method of revenge was quite special. She might not be able to beat Zoel in a fight since she was from a special agency background, but she knew how to sabotage in various ways. If she couldn’t do it openly, she played dirty.

She specifically targeted Zoel when he was hitting on girls, repeatedly interfering in creative ways and even boasting lock-picking skills. She entered and exited Zoel’s home as if it were a vegetable market; having people watch over it was useless because, after all, she was a former special agent, disqualified or not.

Kiara couldn’t help but laugh again at the sight of Zoel’s frustrated face.

Considering she had just swiped a jewelry box from him, she felt a little bad about pushing it, so she seriously offered advice.

“If you really can’t stand her, just find someone to put her in a sack. It’s not like you can’t do it, so why ask me?”

Zoel glared at her, “Lucy is your person. If I really went after her, would you just let it be?”

“If she weren’t your person, do you think I’d be able to make a move?” Kiara retorted.

“Nonsense, if she weren’t your person, I’d have kicked her out long ago.”

Kiara couldn’t tell whether he was being sincere or just playing with her. She didn’t really want Zoel to harm Aka seriously; it was just a joke to probe him. If Zoel were truly inscrutable, nobody could discern his real thoughts, but Kiara was no pushover herself.

If she didn’t find out the truth on the first try, she’d just change her approach, her eyes spinning with a mischievous and wicked smile.

“You really dislike her, don’t you?”

“Nonsense! If you had someone like that around you, would you not be annoyed?”

“From what I know about Aka, it’s not suitable for you to confront her head-on. First of all, she’s a woman, and you’re the man known in the underworld as Mr. Zoel. Would it look good for a big man like you to tie up a woman and beat her? Besides, Aka is backed by Yuzo Joel. “How she’s related to me is none of my business.” Though he said that, Zoel’s expression noticeably softened, but Kiara saw through it without pointing it out.
