Kiara took this opportunity to leave, agreeing to come back later that night.

Baron was waiting for her outside, eager to give her a ride home. Yet, as Kiara looked at him, she thought of his chatty indiscretion in the car, so she made up an excuse about visiting a friend to avoid riding with him. Instead of going home, she headed straight for Zoel Cohen’s place in Linville.

She should have gone to her elder brother, but it seemed he had been out of town, busy with business meetings, and probably couldn’t spare the time. Conveniently, Zoel had called her in the morning to say he was in Linville and to ask when she would be free to meet, making him the ideal person to talk to.

Upon arriving at Zoel’s home, Kiara went upstairs. When Zoel opened the door, she was taken aback.

“What are you staring at? Haven’t you seen a handsome guy before?!” Frustrated by her gaze, Zoel lost his temper.

Kiara clicked her tongue twice, her gaze fixed on Zoel’s evenly distributed panda eyes, “I’ve never seen such a disheveled handsome guy before, Zoel. What on earth has happened to you these past few days? Did you sleep with someone else’s woman, or have you been up to some instant karma that’s got you beat up like this?”

Not only did his eyes look bruised from punches, but the places where his robe revealed skin were all streaked with blood–clear signs of being hit and scratched!

“It’s all because I got dragged into dealing with your Old Yates Family’s mess. These are all the after-effects…” Zoel touched his own eye socket, and seeing Kiara there, he became even more irritated.

“Our Old Yates Family? The most violent man in our family is still at his workplace right now. Besides, the scratches on your neck clearly look like a woman’s work. Don’t you wrongfully accuse our family.”

“Don’t play innocent with me! It’s that Lucy by your side. That woman is too vicious! She even set a trap in my house!”

Zoel was fuming just thinking about what had happened that morning, wishing he could drag Lucy out and pluck her blonde hair out one strand at a time!

They had a chance encounter at the hot springs in Q City the previous day. Zoel was wrapping his arms around a buxom girl, ready for a relaxing soak, but before they could get cozy, Lucy leaped over the private hot spring area’s fence and pounced on him, plunging into the water like a madwoman, scratching, and clawing at him, leave his new girlfriend dumbfounded.

Not only did Aka scratch up Zoel, but she also concocted a whole story, accusing him of betrayal–saying he left her after their affair, didn’t pay her, and even transmitted an unspeakable disease to her, among other things, in her lengthy rant.

Thus, Zoel’s new girlfriend’s face turned white, terrified as if she had encountered the plague and scrambled out of the pool. She ran off so quickly it was as if she was racing to the hospital for a checkup, believing Aka’s vividly described tale as the real deal–who wouldn’t be scared?

After Lucy wreaked havoc on Zoel’s romantic encounter, she fled, and Zoel, burning with rage, couldn’t catch her. His anger grew as he unintentionally had some business to attend to in Linville, and right after finishing his call with Kiara that morning, he thought he’d rest at his place. But as soon as he entered his home, he was greeted with two punching bags flying at him, hitting his bruises perfectly.

Smoke was practically billowing out of Zoel as he saw the note attached to the punching bags:

You get what you deserve, toothpick man!

“I must catch that Lucy, tie her up, and throw her into a manual worker’s den to suffer unspeakable things before being blinded with cement and dumped in the ocean! How on earth did she get into my house and dare to break in like this?!” Zoel was livid, growling through his teeth when he saw Kiara leaning on the table, shoulders quivering.

Zoel cleared his throat, “I’m just venting, don’t be scared. I wouldn’t actually do anything to her, after all, she’s a woman and your friend.”

He assumed Kiara was frightened by his description.

But when Kiara raised her head, the corners of her eyes were wet with tears. Zoel, thinking she had a conscience as a married woman and was sympathetic to his plight, was about to comfort her when he heard Kiara gasping for breath.

“Emma, I can’t take it anymore, my tears are coming out from laughing, pfft, my stomach hurts so much. Just give me a moment, I’ll continue after I finish laughing, hahaha!”

Mr. Zoel turned green.

Poor choice of friends.

Zoel Cohen couldn’t help but think of these words as he watched Kiara smile like a blooming flower.

“Emma Clark, keep laughing, just don’t laugh so hard you hyperventilate,” Zoel said sourly.

Why had he become friends with a woman like this?

Kiara wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes while holding her belly, which convulsed with laughter, “Emma, the two of you are hilarious, it killed me, Aka is just too funny.”

Zoel got angry.

“Are you my friend or hers? I’ve been made miserable by that Lucy, and you are still laughing!”

Kiara slapped her own face, trying to force herself to stop laughing, but every time she glanced at Zoel’s dark circles, she couldn’t hold back.

She hurriedly took out her phone from her pocket and looked for the camera function. It would be such a pity not to capture Zoel’s noble look for posterity.

“Emma Clark, if you dare to take that picture, I’ll destroy both you and your phone together. Just try me.”

Kiara reluctantly put her phone back, saying with a hint of regret,

“It’s a shame I can’t share this look of yours with Camden. Logically, I should share the nice things with my husband, pfft!”

A muscle in Zoel’s temple twitched. How had he once been so blind as to fall for such an unscrupulous woman?

“Did you come here just to add to my troubles and disgust me? Knowing what a heartless woman you are, if it wasn’t for something important, you wouldn’t even remember which way my front door faces. So, out with it, what do you want me to do for you this time?”

“You know, you really do understand me. I indeed have something that I need you to do, plus a chance to mock your black eye.”

“Go ask Arua to do it, I’ve decided not to interfere in your matters anymore.”

Mocking Zoel had serious consequences. He had decided to be haughty.

“Enough playing around, let’s get serious, Zoel, have you ever heard of Lixin Bioscience?” Kiara steered the conversation back to business.

“A leading domestic pharmaceutical group, with some of the most advanced biological laboratories right now, holding monopolies on many patented projects. Their labs are significant not just domestically, but throughout all of Asia, and they’re a heavily supported enterprise. So what, you got involved with them somehow?” Zoel was well-versed with the company.

Kiara took a sip of coffee, then nodded.

“You could say I have a bit of a connection. Can you help me look into this family’s relations?”

“Give me a direction, like what?”

“Like, the relationship between Aurora Dell and the Old Master, how’s the marriage between the Aurora Dells, are there any property disputes in the Lee Clan, any controversies over the inheritance rights?”

From today’s events, Kiara keenly sensed something.
