Chapter 1067: Chapter 1039 This Explanation Won’t Work (Thanks to Silver Alliance Leader katelkiu for the +100 chapters!) “Thank goodness Sister-in-law reacted swiftly–if our parents saw that, it would have been a big deal.”
Mario Yuno said, yet he felt something was off. It wouldn’t have been too difficult to look up his mother’s cell number, but his father’s personal number was supposed to be confidential. How could an ordinary person have it?
Just how influential is Emily Martin, and who exactly is backing her?
“Both our parents have zero tolerance for nonsense, and if they were to find out about this, the aftermath would be difficult to manage. When I saw it, I thought of discussing strategies with you and also wanted to hear your explanation of what’s going on.”
Despite the pain in her heart, Sister-in-law, relying on her intuition, handled the situation by deleting the multimedia messages from her in-laws and pretending everything was normal. She told the in-laws that she had some emergency at work, asked a colleague to cover her afternoon shift, and then came to find Elder Brother.
She didn’t wail or make a scene like many women might, nor did she confront the in-laws demanding their support; she chose to stand by her husband, which required a great deal of rationality and restraint.
“Zara, thank you for giving me a chance to explain!” Elder Brother was immensely grateful.
“It’s just a chance for now, I’ll make my judgment after I hear everything.” Sister-in-law moved the scissors, and Elder Brother immediately sat up straight.
Sister-in-law’s gaze was fixed on the monitor, but she was waiting for Elder Brother’s explanation.
The anger and disappointment she felt on the way here subsided a bit after seeing Kiara confront Emily Martin. Gathering the youngest couple together to address this issue shows everyone’s attitude and emotional leanings.
Kiara held a significant place in Sister-in-law’s heart. Seeing the way Kiara spoke, it was clear she didn’t believe Emily Martin was truly pregnant with Phillip Yuno’s child.
Even Kiara, someone so astute, chose to believe in Elder Brother. Sister-in-law had no reason to suspect that her husband had actively cheated. She had prepared herself for the worst possibility–that Elder Brother had been set up and cheated passive.
Elder Brother recounted the whole story, and as he spoke, Kiara’s probing was coming to an end; Emily Martin had already fallen asleep on the bed, and Kiara’s expression was grave. Others might not be able to detect anything wrong with Kiara’s conversation with Emily Martin, but Kiara, with her professional analysis, had already figured something out.
Fifteen minutes later, Kiara sat on the sofa in Elder Brother’s office, and everyone was waiting for her verdict. Kiara didn’t ask Sister-in-law how she got there, as it was obvious she guessed that Emily Martin’s accomplice had already found Sister-in-law. These cunning people had made preparations on both ends, and Elder Brother and Sister-in-law’s relationship faced a significant challenge.
Kiara took the coffee handed to her by Mario Yuno. It was so quiet in the room that one could hear a pin drop. Finally, after a moment, Kiara began to speak heavily.
“Although I personally find it hard to believe this reality, the information I got from my contact with Emily Martin suggests that her pregnancy isn’t fake, and that night, indeed… something happened.”
Sister-in-law felt darkness encroach her vision and slumped on the sofa.
Elder Brother was furious. “How is that possible?!”
If he had really done something, how could he not remember a thing?
“Are you sure, daughter-in-law?” Mario Yuno also found the outcome unexpected.
“She had just been led into a semi-hypnotic state by me. The words she spoke and the subtle expressions she showed, all confirmed her immense confidence in the child in her belly. If nothing had happened that night, she wouldn’t have been so certain.”
“Maybe she’s just a great actress pretending?” Camden was unwilling to accept this fact.
“Words might deceive, but eyes and tone betray the heart, and from years of clinical experience, I’m certain she knew exactly what happened that night and was confident that the child would bring her luck. Although I feel something’s not quite right, I can’t find any evidence…”
Kiara couldn’t go on; she felt a bit cruel, as the expressions on elder Brother and Sister-in-law’s faces were just too painful to bear.
A deathlike silence had fallen in the room, then elder Brother and Sister-in-law spoke at once.
“Drag her out for an abortion,” elder Brother said.
“Let her have it, and continue with the tests after she gives birth,” Sister-in-law said.
Then they looked at each other, elder Brother angrily said, “Zara, have you lost your mind, Letting her give birth after she’s schemed against me? Aside from Izan and Gideon, I refuse to acknowledge the existence of any other children. It’s absolutely disgusting, like a gob of spit stuck in one’s mouth.”
He would only recognize children born of his legal wife. How could that kind of woman be worthy of having his child?
“Do you think I’m not pained? Do you think I’m not disgusted? Who gave them the opportunity to take advantage of us? At this point, if you drag her off for an abortion and they seize on it to attack us, you might not care, but what about Our Home’s father? What about the second and the youngest? Are these three men from Our Home ordinary people? Have you considered their future?”
After hearing this, elder Brother struck the table with force. Yet, Kiara noticed Sister-in-law’s wording; she said “we gave them the opportunity,” not “you,” which implied Sister-in-law also regretted her negligence.
“That’s not the right approach. If the other party came prepared, even if we let her give birth, we’d still face endless troubles. It would impact us regardless, so delaying the inevitable isn’t a wise strategy,” Mario Yuno objectively analyzed, and Kiara nodded.
“The immediate priority is to uncover the mastermind behind this. We need to figure out whether the adversary is after Money or something else. Once we clarify that, we can discuss the Child’s matter again. If it’s Money they want, giving Money will solve it. If it’s something else– we’ll negotiate further.”
Kiara nodded, Camden had hit the nail on the head.
Suddenly, elder Brother grabbed a pair of scissors from the table and handed them directly to Sister-in-law.
“Wife, just cut me, will you? I truly don’t remember what happened, and I have no idea how it all came to this–don’t suffer in silence. If you really can’t stand it, just cut me and get it over with.”
Sister-in-law’s expression, on the verge of tears yet unable to cry, left elder Brother at a loss. He was really pained by the current chaotic situation and, in his agitation, committed such a foolish act, regardless of his brother and sister-in-law’s presence.
Sister-in-law took the scissors, and in a moment of fury, lifted them up. Mario Yuno, seeing what was about to happen, hastily tried to intervene, while Kiara pulled him back.
The tension was too much, everyone needed a release–elder Brother included, Sister-in-law as well.
Sister-in-law held the scissors aloft for a few seconds in the air, while Phillip Yuno did not even try to dodge, resigned to whatever would happen. Even those not enlisted from a military family remembered the household rules, live with the consequences of one’s actions.
He knew he was indelibly at fault for whatever had transpired intentionally or not, and having betrayed his marriage and let down his loving wife, he deserved to be punished.
Sister-in-law threw down the scissors and cried out, “My Home is being shaken by conspiracies; how would cutting you change the facts?”
Elder Brother, seeing her cry, pulled her into his arms, constantly apologizing.
“Zara, don’t be like this; every fault is mine, even though I can’t remember exactly what happened. But with things as they are, I can only say that regardless of any lapses on my part, you and the children are the only ones in my heart, and I will never acknowledge the existence of any other children.”
