True to his reputation, Jiang Shaoqing acted swiftly and decisively.

Since Jiang had long-standing ties with the construction company, everyone involved poured their utmost effort into the project, going above and beyond. Bai Xiao found the proposed designs thoroughly satisfactory.

While they temporarily stayed at the hotel, renovations commenced on the house.

Sure enough, within ten days—not one day more—there was a dramatic transformation of their little courtyard. The arrangement of the trees and gardens remained unchanged, but a relaxation area had been added beneath the grape trellises, as well as a chess table and tea set beneath the Guihua tree. During summer evenings, this spot would undoubtedly become the most picturesque view.
