Chapter 558: The Disobedient Task Subject
Chapter 558: Chapter 558: The Disobedient Task Subject
Three well-equipped vehicles were not having an easy time on the road, especially after they had left the base’s boundaries, with zombies visible everywhere on the melting icy patches.
Zombies chased after the vehicles, slipping on the ice blocks on the road and falling, provoking laughter from Lu Guanhai inside the vehicle, "These zombies are so funny, hahaha, Qiqi, look at that one, it fell while using its Special Ability, and the ability smashed straight up into the sky, hahahaha."
"The base’s mission management center should also be back to normal from today, and these zombies will probably be cleared out soon."
Su Jin seemed eager to try, and if it hadn’t been for the mission, she probably couldn’t have resisted coming down and wiping out these zombies all at once.
Bang! Bang!
The armored vehicle hit several zombies that lunged at it, and for some reason, when Su Jin saw the brains mixed with dark blood splashed on the windows, she suddenly felt an urge to vomit.
What’s going on?
Could it be that I haven’t been out killing zombies in a car for too long?
However, she didn’t dwell on it, and instead took out some plum candies from the Space and shared them with Qiqi and Lu Guanhai by her side.
"Sister Xiao Jin, I want a White Rabbit creamy candy."
Qiqi didn’t really like the sour plum candies but loved the creamy White Rabbit candies.
"I have some here, here you go."
Su Jin immediately took out some and also peeled one and gave it to Lu Hao, who was driving.
And Mao Qiqi also peeled one for Lian Jiyue, feeling that Xiao Yue certainly wouldn’t peel such candy himself.
"Son-in-law, I still want that plum candy from before, it’s quite refreshing with its sourness,"
Lu Guanhai reached out for more, wondering why he hadn’t realized how delicious plum candies were before.
In one of the vehicles ahead, Wei Junhao couldn’t wait to ask Zheng Shu to take out the extra-large suitcase Liang Jiuhui had prepared for them from the Space, wondering what that guy had stuffed in there for them.
Luckily, there was enough room in the car. As soon as the suitcase was opened, the several people in the front and back curiously gathered to see what was inside.
"There’s so much braised meat! Wow, and instant noodles too!"
"Is this, is this a bag of braised chicken legs?"
Zheng Shu swallowed and asked.
"Yes, ah, the Base Leader must have bought it from the Heart Talk Store,"
Bai Ying was very familiar with these things. Although they were all food, they were also some of the hardest things to obtain in the apocalypse, and this Base Leader was quite reliable.
"My God, it’s been so long since I last ate instant noodles,"
Zhu Chang immediately felt hungry looking at the neatly arranged instant noodles.
"You guys stop it,"
Wei Junhao sighed as he looked at all those items.
???
The group was puzzled, why did Wei Junhao look so sorrowful when looking at these things?
But then Wei Junhao slowly said, "I really wish we could move the Heart Talk Store back to City B..."
"..."
And the atmosphere in the leading vehicle was a bit eerie, with Han Yue leaning back with his eyes closed, which made everyone else in the vehicle, including Xu Mingliang, too afraid to speak. Except for the muffled sounds of hitting zombies outside, there was a nerve-wracking silence inside the car.
Wang Liang, however, looked quite at ease. He was used to lowering his presence in different groups, and the atmosphere in the car didn’t seem to affect him much.
Finally, the vehicles stopped moving when they reached an overpass.
"How about taking a right turn and encircling from there?"
The driver, Yang Bo, suggested, as the road on the right seemed to have fewer zombies.
"No, going that way will get us surrounded,"
Han Yue immediately stopped them.
Just as everyone was curious about how Han Yue, sitting in the middle of the car, had guessed that going that way would lead to an ambush, a loud bang suddenly came from the roof of the car.
The area above the roof was a blind spot, and the people inside the car couldn’t see clearly, but those in the two cars behind could see.
A sizable zombie animal had unexpectedly jumped down from the overpass and was now pounding vigorously on the roof of the first car with its fat paws! Because the zombie animal’s fur had fallen off, they couldn’t tell what animal it was. Lu Hao could only faintly guess that it might be a Zombie Tibetan Mastiff.
Han Yue had already ducked into a corner of the car at the first opportunity, and at that moment, Lu Hao’s voice came through the car’s intercom: "It’s a zombie animal, don’t come down yet."
"We don’t need you, we can handle it ourselves,"
Xu Mingliang snorted coldly. It was just a zombie animal, they could handle it themselves in minutes; they didn’t need those people showing off.
Han Yue: "..."
Was Xu Mingliang stupid? With so many zombies surrounding them instantly, how was he supposed to deal with the zombie animal on top of their heads?
"Mingliang! You aren’t even looking at the situation outside!"
Fan Decai hadn’t expected Xu Mingliang to refuse so directly, not even giving them time to react before hanging up the intercom.
Only then did Xu Mingliang become aware of their surroundings. It was far from being as simple as just one zombie animal; they could no longer see the situation in the two cars behind, but their car was already surrounded by zombies!
But once the words were out, there was no taking them back. Xu Mingliang, pushing through his reluctance, said, "Captain, cover me, I’ll take care of the one on top first!"
Fan Decai was frantic. This wasn’t a matter of covering or not. Going out now was akin to a death sentence! However, they no longer had time to hesitate. If they didn’t respond soon, the roof of the car would be smashed through.
"Yang Bo, Zhiming, protect Young Master Han, everyone else help cover!"
Fan Decai clenched his teeth and said.
Xu Mingliang and Fan Decai, both Fire Element Ability Users, only dared to open the car window and simultaneously released two fire dragons in an attempt to clear an area outside.
Hang Wenshan, a Wind Element User, also utilized a Wind Ball to smash the surrounding zombies further away.
Seizing the moment, Xu Mingliang agilely jumped out of the car window. Zombies leaped at him, but only touched the hem of his pants as he climbed onto the roof.
Roar!
Xu Mingliang, now on the roof, froze. The zombie animal facing him, rotten and baring its fangs, was it really a Tibetan Mastiff?!
The next second, the Zombie Tibetan Mastiff lunged at Xu Mingliang, who dodged in cold sweat. The space on the roof was very cramped, and jumping down would mean being heavily surrounded by other zombies below!
"Mingliang! What’s happening?"
Fan Decai also realized something was wrong, but they were so overwhelmed by the zombies around them that they couldn’t see the top.
Xu Mingliang regretted his actions. His Fireball had hit the Zombie Tibetan Mastiff, which surprisingly also possessed a Special Ability, a defensive-offensive Metal Element Ability!
The Zombie Tibetan Mastiff, with its body metallicized, roared. Xu Mingliang’s fire attacks were essentially ineffective.
"Tsk tsk, no good, that guy,"
Lu Guanhai shook his head and said. A level five fire element was just that, not so much better than his level four, and he was the one who had just stopped Xiao Hao from intervening.
"Should we help?"
Su Jin asked. Although she wanted to just watch, they were, after all, on a mission together.
Lu Hao stared intently ahead: "Yes, but not now."
"Not now?"
Qiqi asked puzzledly from behind Lu Hao’s seat.
"When he’s about to die,"
