Rebirth: Leading Families to Survive in the Apocalypse -
Chapter 553: Uninvited Guest
Chapter 553: Chapter 553: Uninvited Guest
Little Snow had continued for about three days and finally stopped in the middle of the night on the third day.
When people, still accustomed to their routine, opened their doors early in the morning ready to sweep the snow, they unexpectedly discovered that the snow had stopped!
"The snow has stopped!!"
Someone couldn’t help but shout outside.
"Has it really stopped?"
Others, hearing the shouts from outside, hurriedly opened their windows or dashed outside without even putting on coats, and upon seeing the sky without falling snow, many jumped up excitedly.
The month-long snowstorm had finally come to an end!
Previously, many pessimists speculated whether the snow would ever stop, and worried about people gathered in the bases eventually becoming trapped animals, dying within the confines of their shelters.
Although no one truly believed those rumors and speculations, when they saw the snow stopping, everyone involuntarily breathed a sigh of relief.
Humanity still had a chance...
After the snow ceased, the weather did not clear up, and the temperature turned even colder than when it had snowed.
Everyone understood, though, that it was typical for temperatures to drop after a snowstorm before the Apocalypse, and thankfully, with ongoing heating in the base, not many ordinary people fell ill.
However, Su Jin knew that this was only the case inside the S city base. Outside of the base and in others, people would continue to freeze to death in the coming days...
Liang Jiuhui didn’t plan to let Wei Junhao and his group depart immediately, even though the snow had stopped. It was uncertain if it would snow again, and the roads were still covered with ice and snow. It would be best to wait until the ice and snow had mostly melted before they set off.
When Wei Junhao learned that the Heart Talk Team would be escorting them back to B city, he was deeply moved, "Brother Liang, you are so good to me, even dispatching the Heart Talk Team to protect me."
"The Liang family and the Wei family have always been close, and the safety of your family has been stressed repeatedly by my elder,"
Besides, the Heart Talk Team had agreed to take on the mission partly because it coincided with their previous assignment, otherwise, it might not have been certain whether they would accept or not.
Knowing that the Heart Talk Team would escort Wei Junhao back to B city, Liang Wei also breathed a sigh of relief.
With so many Zombie Tides arising outside, the conditions on the road remained uncertain; one could imagine that it would be fraught with danger.
...
And a week later, just as Su Jin and her group had finished strategizing and Liang Jiuhui had announced that they would depart in three days, several unexpected visitors arrived at the base.
Three of them were being carried into the Base Hospital by a few others.
Lin Tianhui frowned as she watched a few people who burst into the hospital shouting loudly and with a rather unpleasant tone.
There were not many people in the Base Hospital at the moment because no teams had been sent out recently to eliminate zombies, but those in the lobby who saw the newcomers covered in dark blood couldn’t help but step back.
The severity of the injuries on those being carried seemed quite severe. Could they really not turn into zombies?
"Call the best healer from your base here! If he can’t cure him, I want his life!"
Xu Mingliang shouted loudly. They had come from City B, and being poorly received in City S was one thing, but having to wait outside for two hours had sent his already low patience skyrocketing.
"Hello, please come with me to the examination room first,"
Li Xia, a nurse from the Base Hospital, stepped forward to greet them. She had been a nurse before the Apocalypse, so she had seen plenty of such patients and did not let her personal emotions affect her work.
"Where’s the stretcher?! Does your crappy base not even have people to carry a stretcher? Are they all dead or something?"
Xu Mingliang continued to rant uncooperatively. Even in City B’s base, wherever they went, people would give way to them, showing respect. This tiny, lousy base seriously didn’t know how to treat people of S rank properly.
"Brother Xu, let’s just go,"
Hang Wenshan, who had visited once with Han Jin, tried to calm things down. He had already explained to Yang Bo and everyone the situation at City S’s base, pointing out that it was not a base that could be easily bullied.
However, Xu Mingliang was still fuming and cursing, with no intention of stopping.
"Our base’s people are all fine, but looking at the person on your back, if you don’t hurry to the examination room, he might be dead soon,"
a gentle yet chilling female voice said. Xu Mingliang turned to look; it was a gentle-looking woman in a white lab coat, although her complexion was unsmiling, and her gaze fixed on the person Xu Mingliang was carrying on his back.
In Lin Tianhui’s eyes, the person on his back was already in a dying state.
As Xu Mingliang was about to argue further, he saw that behind Lin Tianhui, a crowd of hospital staff had gathered, ready to intervene if he made any move.
Thinking about what Lin Tianhui had said and also Hang Wenshan’s advice from earlier, Xu Mingliang snorted coldly and followed the nurse toward the examination room.
"Xiao Zhang, go call Dean Xu,"
Lin Tianhui said to Xiao Zhang behind her. She recognized a couple of people among the group; if she remembered correctly, they were from City B.
Xiao Zhang nodded and ran quickly towards the hospital’s office. The Base Hospital rarely experienced trouble lately, and it was usually outsiders who caused it. If those people started a fight in the hospital, it wouldn’t be good, so he dared not waste any time.
Luo Hongyi and Zhu Chang, who were following behind Xu Mingliang and the others, had various injuries but merely exchanged glances before they too followed the others inside.
They came from City B on behalf of the Wei Family to look for Wei Junhao, and although they had been traveling with people from the Han Family, their relationship mirrored the current state of the Wei and Han families, which looked alright only superficially.
Upon arriving at another base, Xu Mingliang began acting out, which really made them not want to stick around. However, thinking about their injured companions, they continued to the examination room.
Xu Mingliang was carrying Qiu Qihang, a Thunder Element ability user from the Han Family, whose injuries looked serious. Yao Yi had quickly checked and determined that they couldn’t save this man anymore.
"Damn it, it’s all because you wasted time outside. Save him, no matter what. Call over your highest-ranked healer!"
Xu Mingliang stepped forward, grabbed Yao Yi by the collar, and clenched his fist, as if he would throw a punch if the healer didn’t come.
"Brother Xu! Stop it!"
Hang Wenshan intervened, remembering that the people in this base were extremely protective of their own. It was better not to escalate the situation further.
