Rebirth: Leading Families to Survive in the Apocalypse -
Chapter 541: Good Performance
Chapter 541: Chapter 541: Good Performance
The news Lu Hao brought made Liang Jiuhui furious and shocked.
It infuriated him that the people of city B would stoop to such despicable and underhanded tactics.
Setting aside whether they could actually steal the Mysterious Fire Fan, if Qiqi weren’t there, even the safety of the Heart Talk Team would be in question, let alone ensuring that, if Han Yue failed to get his hands on the fan, Wang Liang wouldn’t do something to threaten the safety of the Heart Talk Team.
And the fact that Han Yue was a Mental Element Ability User shocked Liang Jiuhui even more; he had hidden this from everyone for so long!
"It’s quite normal; we have the same situation here,"
Lu Hao was referring to Sheng Jing and Qiqi’s Mental Element abilities.
Liang Jiuhui nodded and said, "What do you plan to do with that Invisibility Ability User?"
He wanted to respect the opinion of the Heart Talk Team, even if it meant Su Jin and Lu Hao taking the initiative to kill him, he wouldn’t object.
"Let him go,"
Lu Hao said.
"Let him go? Why would you let him go?"
Liang Jiuhui asked in confusion, wondering why they’d release someone they had already captured.
"Killing him wouldn’t be of much use, but alive, he might be useful,"
Lu Hao, fiddling with his coffee cup, began to explain the pros and cons to Liang Jiuhui.
The premise of letting Wang Liang go was that they could turn him into one of their own.
If they killed him, they would inevitably have to show their hand to Han Yue right away, which would give the Heart Talk Team no advantage whatsoever.
If Wang Liang was willing to be their informant, they could continue to pretend they didn’t know about Han Yue being a Mental Element Ability User. As Lu Hao put it, if they had to deal with the Han Family of city B in the future, they could turn this knowledge to their advantage.
"It sounds good, but Wang Liang doesn’t have any significant ties with us, how can you make him listen?"
Liang Jiuhui asked. He actually didn’t want to stir up any trouble with city B either, but he felt it would be difficult to make Wang Liang obey.
"He’ll have ties with us soon enough,"
Lu Hao said with a smile.
...
On the third day of resisting the Zombie Tide, the zombie horde in the distance was still considerable, but inside city S’s base, ammunition was plentiful, and people had food and drink.
Gradually, everyone stopped feeling anxious; the Zombie Tide was a war of attrition, and it was never going to end in just a day or two.
Furthermore, on the third day, quite a few Special Ability Users who had fought in the previous two days were starting to advance, which greatly excited all the Special Ability Users in city S base.
The Zombie Tide was a great opportunity for everyone to improve their abilities!
The snipers in the middle of the city walls had also, according to Liang Jiuhui’s orders, shifted all their focus inward. If someone was in danger or needed a bullet to cover for them, their first priority was to preserve the lives of the Special Ability Users inside.
As a result, casualties within the base gradually decreased each day, especially when the Heart Talk Team was present, where nearly the entire battlefield saw no casualties at all.
Liang Jiuhui and his companions soon realized that within the Guard squad now, those who performed exceptionally well or worked together seamlessly were mostly from the previously assessed trainees. Having undergone training by several instructors, some had even developed their own combat tactics.
"Once this blizzard stops, I plan to send the older squad members over in batches for training as well,"
Liang Jiuhui said.
"Yeah, good idea. Look at some of those young girls; they can really fight now,"
Li Haochu and the others agreed wholeheartedly. The base was now not planning on recruiting new Guard Squad Members. Instead of having the former instructors idle, it was better to have them help improve some of the older Guard Squad Members.
Li Haochu had a certain youthful naivety in his words, namely in those who were out in the field, including Deng Shuwei and Kang Ning.
During their previous training, several instructors had taught them to fight in coordination with teammates of different special abilities, and now the actual combat even more so revealed the advantages of their earlier cooperative strategies.
Deng Shuwei’s Metal Element ability had advanced to Level Four after the battle the previous day, and she appeared completely different from when she first joined the training team. Although she was very short, her movements were incredibly agile.
She dodged a fireball attack from a grayish-white Mutated Zombie and swiftly threw a series of metal spikes; the power of the metal spikes pinned the Fire Element Mutated Zombie firmly to the ground.
Seeing the Mutated Zombie trapped, Deng Shuwei took advantage of the momentum to leap up, and with a swoosh, used a newly formed sword to chop off the head of the Fire Element Mutated Zombie.
Phew~
After landing, Deng Shuwei sighed in relief. A Level Four Fire Element Mutated Zombie seemed no match for a human of the same level, relying only on brute strength.
"Xiao Wei, be careful!"
A grey stone spike suddenly shot towards Deng Shuwei from the pile of zombies behind!
Kang Ning shouted to warn Deng Shuwei to dodge.
Ye Rongxin tried to shoot down the stone spike with bullets but was too late. At the critical moment, a vine moved with the speed of lightning and deflected the stone spike away from Deng Shuwei!
It was Su Jin’s wooden vines!
Deng Shuwei, feeling both grateful and scared, quickly jumped away from her original position, as a grayish-white Mutated Zombie leaped in front of her.
"This is a Level Seven Earth Element Zombie, leave it to me," Su Jin said, stepping in front of Deng Shuwei.
"Thank you!"
Deng Shuwei didn’t say much else, silently keeping her gratitude and emotions to herself as she continued to look for zombies she could handle.
What the Level Seven Earth Element Mutated Zombie sent out were no longer easily shattered earth spikes but solid stone spikes. Disregarding whether they could hit a vital spot, the sheer weight meant that getting hit anywhere on the body would cause severe pain.
Although Su Jin’s vines were effective against that Earth Element Zombie, it quickly formed a rock shield to protect itself.
Neither the wooden spikes nor the sharp ends of the vines could easily break the rock shield.
However, Su Jin did not continue to confront it head-on; instead, she used her Wood Element ability to leap up and struck from above!
Boom!
The Earth Element Zombie lifted its hefty shield to block Su Jin’s downward wooden spike attack.
But it failed to dodge a fireball attack from behind; Lu Hao, seeing that although the zombie had excellent defense but was not very fast, casually lobbed a fireball while it was blocking Su Jin’s attack, not expecting it to fail to react in time.
Roar!
Only then did the Earth Element Zombie realize it was on fire, covering itself in a layer of earth to try and smother the flames.
Since Lu Hao had casually thrown the fireball without putting in too much special ability, the Earth Element Zombie easily extinguished it.
Meanwhile, the Earth Element Mutated Zombie kept strengthening its defense, slowly enveloping its entire body in a layer of rocks, appearing quite impervious to blades and guns.
"..."
Su Jin was somewhat speechless; it could hardly move before, and how was it supposed to now?
Whoosh!
A vine shot towards the Earth Element Zombie. Su Jin decisively used the vine to bind the Earth Element Zombie together with its shield.
