Rebirth: Leading Families to Survive in the Apocalypse -
Chapter 503: Visiting
Chapter 503: Chapter 503: Visiting
Wind Element Ability Users could only use their abilities to clear the snow off the road, the ice on the road surface was another matter, but even so, they saved a lot of effort for the cleanup team that followed.
The team of Wind Element practitioners began to unleash their abilities as instructed by Xue Wanyi, and sure enough, after they had blown away the snow in a large area ahead, over a hundred zombies were exposed.
Roar! Roar!
The zombies roared and charged towards the Wind Element Ability Users!
"All Wind Blades, attack!"
Xue Wanyi shouted.
Including Xue Wanyi himself, dozens of Wind Blades were released.
Hundreds of Wind Blades, like the blades of a cutting machine, attacked the zombies, instantly turning many into minced meat, but still some Metal Element and Earth Element Mutated Zombies used metal shields and earth walls to block the attacks of the Wind Blades.
"Wind Element users conserve your energy for clearing the road; leave the rest to us,"
Li Haochu ordered.
The remaining Mutated Zombies were quickly exterminated by Xing Taining and his team.
The task of snow clearing continued...
Su Jin and her group did not take on this task because Liang Jiuhui had already informed them that the base might soon need to hire high-rank or above mercenary teams to clear the zombies around the base.
Moreover, that evening they had invited Liang Jiuqing and his family over as guests, so the family spent the day cleaning the house and checking for any inappropriate items to display.
Su Jin also threw some mutant animal pelts out into the yard, as meat was definitely needed for hosting the guests in the evening, while Huang Yunxiang had made canned fruits and some simple cakes, which she placed on the coffee table in the main hall.
"Captain Xing is coming today; we brothers must have a good drink with him,"
Su Xiangzhe excitedly picked out some white spirits from the shelves in the Space, while Nie Qing curiously picked up a bottle to look at.
"This little porcelain bottle is quite nice looking, but I wonder if the alcohol is as fragrant as the ones from our mountain,"
Nie Qing said.
"Your mountain used to have only fruit wines, these are all grain alcohols, careful, it might be too strong for you,"
Lu Guanhai said with a light laugh.
"You shouldn’t underestimate me; I used to have a decent tolerance for alcohol when I was young. Don’t believe me? Why don’t we see today?"
Nie Qing’s words made Su Xiangzhe and Lin Cheng laugh.
The men in the family had long ago developed their drinking capacities through competitions at their grandparents’ home, and Lu Guanhai especially liked to enjoy a little liquor with his meals regularly. As for Nie Qing, with his slight build, he could probably only manage about three cups.
So, Su Xiangzhe picked out the highest proof bottles...
However, the guests that evening had quite a formidable lineup; besides Liang Jiuqing and Xing Taining, Liang Wei and Liang Jiuhui also came.
The men looked at each other; with such important figures from the base present, perhaps they should just take it easy and stop at a good point. It would be embarrassing if they got drunk and said something inappropriate.
"You guys don’t mind, this old man is getting on in years and just wanted to join in the fun,"
Liang Wei said with a smile, dressed in simple casual clothes. Though his temples were graying, the demeanor of a former leader was still evident in his speech and conduct.
Su Jin felt somewhat emotional; in fact, Liang Wei wasn’t very old, just a few years older than Su Xiangzhe and the others. It was probably due to overwork that his hair had grayed prematurely.
She said with a smile, "Uncle Liang, please don’t be so polite. We’re delighted that you could join us, living so close, we should indeed visit each other more often."
"Yes, indeed, it adds to our happiness,"
Lin Tianhui also brought over some cups of water to the coffee table and said.
"Thank you, Aunt Lin"
Jiuhui took a cup of water and said as he looked around the villa’s arrangement. Despite there still not being much effort put into it, the place still managed to feel incredibly warm and cozy, no wonder Jiuqing always wanted to come over.
Today, Jiuhui was here to listen to stories. He had always been curious about what the Heart Talk Team encountered on their trips to and from City E, including their recent visits to Cities A and D.
Lu Hao shared with them what they had observed at several bases, except he omitted the incident involving Zhang Xiaohong.
Everyone listened with great interest.
"Are you saying, you also encountered impostors of me and my brother?"
Jiuqing widened her eyes and asked, hardly believing herself to be someone famous enough to have impostors.
"It’s related to something your brother used to do, something about a girl who can’t forget him."
"..."
Jiuhui felt that Lu Hao’s explanations were becoming increasingly absurd, wondering what his brother had done exactly.
Even Uncle Liang looked at him doubtfully.
"Okay, stop beating around the bush. Do you remember a girl named Wang Chunli?
Su Jin asked Jiuhui.
"I don’t remember..."
Jiuhui was sure he had never known any girl like that.
"During your military service years, you saved a little girl with very dark skin; you even talked to her about Jiuqing,"
Lu Hao reminded him.
With that, Jiuhui did recall something.
"She was just a child back then,"
What could he have possibly done to a child?
Su Jin finally told Jiuhui everything about Wang Chunli, and then everyone suddenly understood.
"That child, how is she doing now?"
Jiuhui hadn’t expected that a casual conversation with a little girl would have such a great impact on her, even to the point of being exploited by villains in the apocalypse.
"If she hasn’t made it here yet, she should still be on her path of redemption,"
Su Jin said helplessly, acknowledging that she had told Wang Chunli about Jiuhui being in the S City base, but that she hadn’t seen or heard of her in the base since her return.
After all her hammer was quite conspicuous.
...
The aroma of steamed rice soon wafted out from the kitchen, along with a strong scent of meat and vegetables. Of course, those dishes had all been taken out from the space by Su Jin and then recooked in a pot, which not only enhanced the aroma but also made the vegetables appear less fresh.
But it was these same slightly less fresh dishes that made Uncle Liang and the others find them too good to stop eating.
The baijiu that Su Xiangzhe brought out sparked even more appetite among the men, and the family at the dinner table chatted back and forth about the people and events they had encountered along the way.
"Are you saying, there was a big shake-up at the D City base?"
Captain Xing asked in surprise, keenly aware of the situation in the D City base; when he left, the survivors there were committing suicide one by one in a deep sleep—what could have awakened them?
"We aren’t too sure ourselves, we only briefly went inside before coming back out. Maybe they bought some supplies from somewhere else,"
Lu Hao replied.
