Rebirth in the 80s: The Scholar Wife is Cute
Chapter 639: Have Dinner Together

Chapter 639: Chapter 639: Have Dinner Together

"... Professor Li, this..." Principal Wang was surprised, his mouth agape, and the anger on his face gradually dissipated.

He had never expected that Wan Dongcheng was getting a divorce from Professor Li’s daughter; in this day and age, divorce was certainly not a common affair.

Xiu Min spoke with a gentle tone, "Principal Wang, it was I who suggested Dongcheng go teach. I did not consider the matter thoroughly, and it has caused trouble for the school. Now that my daughter has decided to divorce him, his affairs will no longer be related to the Li Family."

Her tone was soft, and her expression was dignified and composed, prompting Principal Wang to inwardly praise Professor Li for marrying such a good wife—even with her daughter on the verge of divorce, it wasn’t appropriate for him to say anything too harsh, and his expression softened.

"Sister-in-law, I was unaware of this matter and came in a fit of anger; please don’t take it to heart."

"It’s Dongcheng’s fault for handling things poorly. Principal Wang, whatever your school decides to do with him, just do it," Xiu Min said.

Principal Wang nodded, then looked at Li Julin with a puzzled expression. "Professor Li, if you are willing to take Shen Mianmian in, why not let her study at First Middle School? The teaching level there is not just a little bit superior to Third Middle School’s."

He said this, but his thought was, No wonder Shen Mianmian’s academic performance is so good, with such a tutor, it’d be strange if her grades weren’t.

"It’s her own choice, and I don’t intervene," Li Julin said.

Principal Wang nodded, and since Dongcheng no longer had anything to do with the Li Family, he had no more concerns and no reason to complain at the Li’s anymore. So, after greeting Li Julin, he left the Li residence.

As soon as Principal Wang left, Li Julin’s face darkened immediately, "Dongcheng has gone too far."

Xiu Min nodded in agreement, glanced toward the study, and said with concern, "Mianmian is such an understanding child; she never complains to us, probably fearing it would upset us. Dongcheng really is despicable, bullying even a child. He wants to get Mianmian expelled from the school!"

Li Julin, of course, saw through Dongcheng’s intentions as well. He said, "Call Xiaoyue, tell him to bring He Nan back for dinner tonight."

Xiu Min nodded and went to the phone.

Li Shiping stood at the top of the stairs, overhearing the conversation clearly, and felt an overwhelming sense of guilt. She had anticipated Dongcheng would seek out Shen Mianmian but had not imagined his intentions to be so malicious, hoping to prevent Mianmian from continuing her education.

What was to be done in such a situation?

After Shen Mianmian had entered the study, she immediately focused on her studies and did not pay much attention to the conversation outside. It wasn’t until Li Julin opened the door and came in that she noticed. He was a man of few words, not one for pretenses, so he didn’t mention a word about Principal Wang’s visit, instead simply saying, "He Nan is also coming tonight. Stay for dinner before you go."

Shen Mianmian’s thoughts stirred, realizing Li Julin probably had something to say that evening. She didn’t ask further, obediently nodding, "Okay, Uncle Li."

By five o’clock in the afternoon, Li Yue arrived back home with He Nan. Xiu Min and Li Shiping had prepared a table full of dishes and called everyone to wash up for dinner. During this time, there was a bit of casual conversation, but not a word was mentioned about Dongcheng’s incident.

After dinner, Li Shiping took her child upstairs to sleep, and Shen Mianmian was about to help Xiu Min with the dishes when Li Julin called her over.

"I have something to discuss with all of you, Mianmian, come over as well."
