Chapter 51: Chapter 51: Want to Rent a Shop
She opened the book provided by the system. Fortunately, in her previous life, although she had not attended school, she had self-educated herself later on; otherwise, she would have had to start from learning to read. The first book she started reading was "Records of the Grand Historian."
Page by page, she read on. It was lucky that she was free of distractions and had nothing much to worry about. Moreover, she wasn’t actually a five-year-old child. Otherwise, such a book would really seem like reading an inscrutable text to her. Besides, there was no other entertainment available, so she treated reading as a way to pass the time. She didn’t need to read for long; an hour of spare time outside would give her ten hours to read.
Sister, wake up.
Qin Xiangyang nudged Qin Xiangnuan.
Mmm, Qin Xiangnuan rubbed her eyes and sat up. She had read late into the night and didn’t know when she had fallen asleep. She only remembered holding a volume of the Records of the Grand Historian and being completely engrossed in such a dry book. Perhaps it could only be said that she was desperate to grow up.
And now, the content she read yesterday still lingered in her mind.
What time is it now? She rubbed her eyes again, pulling out her clothes from under the covers.
It’s almost two o’clock, Qin Xiangyang had already left to start the fire in the kitchen.
Selling breakfast was hard work; they had to get up before dawn. However, they only sold in the mornings and could come back home when it was still dark. After returning, they didn’t have to do anything else and could rest well. They made pancakes and stir-fried some dishes, then set up their stall. Every day was the same; their pancakes always drew a crowd as soon as their stall opened and sold very well. By five o’clock, the pancakes were all sold out, and not much of the dishes were left. Even the samples for tasting were all gone, meaning they returned empty-handed but with a handful of money.
Today, they made over fifty dollars again. Qin Xiangyang hid the money and other belongings in a hole behind the cupboard, then pushed the cupboard several times to make sure it was secure before finally feeling reassured enough to take a nap.
Qin Xiangnuan also lay down under the covers, but in reality, she entered the system to read for a while before sleeping.
Their days were peaceful and stable. They went out to sell pancakes daily, and their surplus money continued to grow. Except for days with heavy snow or rain when they didn’t set up their stall, they consistently sold pancakes.
After reading for a while, Qin Xiangnuan fell asleep, then woke up to read more, and she had actually finished the book. Then, the system gave her another one, "The Scholars."
She continued to read and remember. Each day, she spent at least one hour reading this book in the system, which equated to several hours, translating to several days outside. No wonder she was progressing so fast.
"Brother, let’s rent a place?"
Qin Xiangnuan leaned over the fire pit, playing with the corners of the blanket, then turned her little face towards Qin Xiangyang to discuss.
"Rent a shop?"
"Yes," Qin Xiangnuan sat up, counting on her little fingers the advantages of renting a shop.
"Brother, you see, if we had a shop, we could put the stove inside; when there are no pancakes, we could still make more. We could also cook porridge to sell. Everyone would have something to eat and drink, how good would that be! And later, if it rains, having a shop means we can still operate and not be afraid of getting wet."
