Chapter 39: Chapter 39: Refusing to Give Money
Let’s not talk about that now, at least we have some money, and the child’s life is saved.
After they paid, Qin Xiangyang was admitted to the hospital and had started receiving IV fluids.
Aunt Hua was still in a state of shock from the doctor’s words; had they been even a bit later, the child might not have survived.
Qin Xiangyang was now lying in the hospital bed, his complexion much better, the fever had subsided, and he was finally sleeping peacefully. Qin Xiangnuan tiptoed over and placed her hand on Qin Xiangyang’s forehead; it was, indeed, no longer burning hot.
Seeing this, Aunt Hua also heaved a sigh of relief; at last, it seemed everything was going to be okay.
"Aunt Hua, let’s go home and bring some things for brother," Qin Xiangnuan said to Aunt Hua. Moreover, it was already getting late, Uncle Hua and Aunt Hua had other things to take care of, and she couldn’t let them stay at the hospital with her and her brother.
"Alright, I’ll have your Uncle Hua take you back," Aunt Hua was anxious about things at home, but someone adult had to stay at the hospital now.
"Thank you, Aunt Hua."
Qin Xiangnuan didn’t say much else. She would return with the things, and then Aunt Hua could go back home. She owed Aunt Hua a great debt, which she would repay in the future.
Uncle Hua took Qin Xiangnuan back to the village on his tricycle. Qin Xiangnuan didn’t go to Chen Laosan’s house; instead, she went to the Qin Family home.
She stood outside the Qin house, waiting for Qin Guohua to come out.
Soon enough, Qin Guohua did come out. He had probably just woken up and needed to find the outside toilet -- unless they decided not to eat, drink, or use the restroom.
"What are you doing here?" Qin Guohua snapped upon seeing Qin Xiangnuan, anger flaring up instantly. What curse had he brought upon himself with such children, they seemed more like enemies.
"Brother is sick," Qin Xiangnuan lifted her face, her fingers fidgeting constantly, "He’s in the hospital. They say we need over 30 yuan. You are our father, you should give us the money," with that, she extended her little hand towards Qin Guohua, asking for money.
"Get lost!" Once Qin Guohua heard 30 yuan, his face turned ashen with rage, "Leave right now!" He pointed his finger toward the door, "You are no longer children of Qin Guohua; whatever happens to you, dead or alive, is none of my concern."
"Oh..." Qin Xiangnuan slightly tugged at the corner of her lips, "Then, from now on, whether daddy is dead or alive is none of our siblings’ concern, right?"
"Get lost!" Qin Guohua barked the word again.
"If I ever acknowledge you as my children again, I’ll be a damned turtle’s son of a bitch. Get lost! Go, get out of here!" As he spoke, he actually picked up a half brick from the ground and flung it at Qin Xiangnuan; she narrowly dodged it. Had she not moved swiftly, the brick certainly would have left a bloody gash on her head.
That brick shattered Qin Xiangnuan’s last bit of hope, along with the father-daughter bond of two whole lifetimes.
Really, she was someone without parents.
Suddenly she felt a coolness on her face, and when she wiped it, she discovered, to her own surprise, that she had started crying. She quickly dried her tears, returned to the place where she was staying now, took out the remaining money, and put it in her small bag to carry on her person. She had wanted to bring some clothes as well but found that Qin Xiangyang didn’t have a single decent piece of clothing. At this moment, she had over 40 yuan in her hands; she planned to buy a few clothes for her brother and save some as working capital to purchase things like flour. She wasn’t afraid of not having money in the future; as long as she made and sold pastries, there would be money coming in.
