Chapter 379: Chapter 379: School

The tables inside had all been tidied up. Jian Zhiqing was sitting to one side, his expression somewhat poor and tinged with fatigue. Clearly, like Li Li and the others, he was nearly worn out by these tasks, so Qin Xiangnuan retracted what she had just said. Jian Zhiqing was no less stressed than they were; being a student had its own hardships, just as work did.

For the sake of living, it’s not easy for anyone; after all, in this era, most people aren’t born into wealth.

She placed the dumplings on the table, then prepared two bowls of dipping sauce.

A large plate of dumplings didn’t seem to count for many—vegetarian dumplings weren’t very filling. Fortunately, they were vegetarian. Chun Xiangnuan was grateful that Granny Lu truly understood them and hadn’t made meat dumplings. Otherwise, eating so many might have caused Li Li and Mao Xiaomei’s stomachs to burst.

She ate less, while Jian Zhiqing ate more, as she wasn’t very hungry and would be going to bed soon, but Jian Zhiqing was different.

"Brother Jian, how about we take the bus by ourselves tomorrow, and you don’t have to come?" she suggested.

Using so much effort just for a day, she felt it was unfair to Jian Zhiqing.

"It’s okay," Jian Zhiqing took another dumpling for himself, "The work will be the same when I get back. I’ll just rush through it tonight. Don’t worry," he patted Qin Tongnuan’s head reassuringly, "Your Brother Jian isn’t as exhausted as you guys, at least I don’t have to rack my brains. It’s just for a day or two."

Chun Xiangnuan bit her chopsticks and went to pick up another dumpling, but it ended up in Jian Zhiqing’s bowl.

"Eat less at night."

Qin Xiangnuan looked at the dumplings in his bowl and could only sigh softly. She had eaten only five, which was a small amount. But from the looks of it, Jian Zhiqing would definitely not gorge like Li Li and Mao Xiaomei. She had always felt that Jian Zhiqing knew a bit about health preservation, and she had guessed right—he definitely knew how to stay healthy.

Listening to someone who knows about health won’t be wrong—they live long.

She stopped eating and left the remaining dumplings for Jian Zhiqing, then went to bed herself, needing to get up early the next day.

Closing the door, she didn’t bother with anything else, pulling up the covers to sleep. The small Siheyuan was very comfortable in summer, exceptionally cool, and without the heavy industrial pollution of more than a decade later, the air was fresh. A cool breeze would blow in through the windows at night, lifting the clean curtains and bringing a hint of refreshment.

And at night—she slept soundly.

When she woke up in the morning, Granny Lu had already prepared breakfast for them.

Delicious sweet pumpkin porridge, homemade lotus leaf pancakes, and dishes of smashed cucumber, bean sprouts, and spicy sour potato shreds.

Everyone had a full meal, and then Jian Zhiqing took them to the examination hall. That morning they had a Humanities and Sciences comprehensive exam, and in the afternoon, a foreign language exam. These were Qin Xiangnuan’s strengths; essentially, it’s all about memorization, and memorizing things has never been a challenge for Qin Xiangnuan. She wasn’t afraid of English either; her English was already much better than the average college student, so she wasn’t worried about today’s exam content at all. It was easier than yesterday, and she felt much more confident.

After the exam, she waited outside for Li Li and Mao Xiaomei. It seemed they had performed well today, coming over talking and laughing. Maybe because they had stayed up all night, although Qin Xiangnuan had been reincarnated once, her difficulty lay in the fact that she had never been to high school nor taken the university entrance exam in her past life. Therefore, she had no idea about the exams and couldn’t guess the questions; otherwise, she wouldn’t even need to sit for the exam and could score as the top scorer with ease. Of course, she couldn’t help Li Li and Mao Xiaomei cheat.

She couldn’t help them; some things had to be done alone.

Jian Zhiqing had already reserved lunch, ordering a few dishes and a bowl of soup. Everyone filled their stomachs and then went back to yesterday’s hotel. Qin Xiangnuan threw her books aside and went to sleep, while the other two picked up their books to study.

"She’s sleeping again?"

Li Li pointed her pen at Qin Xiangnuan.

"Shouldn’t she study a bit more?"

"She doesn’t need to for this subject," Mao Xiaomei wasn’t worried about Qin Xiangnuan at all, "Her English is very good, she’s always had tutoring, and she’s much stronger in languages than us. At this level, the exam is naturally not a problem for her, it’s us who have to worry." She sighed. If only they hadn’t been lazy when she offered to teach them, they’d have learned more when the time came to use their knowledge.

Li Li picked up her English book, bit it hard, and looked as pitiful as a puppy with her watery eyes.

Mao Xiaomei rolled her eyes—don’t look at her like that, it gave her goosebumps.

Jian Zhiqing tossed aside the magazine in his hands, took light steps over, removed Qin Xiangnuan’s shoes, covered her with the blanket, picked up the magazine, crossed his legs, and flipped through it. Time flew by, and when Qin Xiangnuan was woken up, it was almost time to go to the examination hall again.

After finishing an exam in the afternoon, Qin Xiangnuan finally breathed a sigh of relief.

She was free, goodbye to the third year of high school.

Her first high school year across two lifetimes had finally ended.

Sigh, it’s over.

Was she supposed to grow up now, attend university, and start planning for herself?

Now that the exams were over, she just had to wait for the results. In a few days, when the answers were out, she would decide which university to choose. In fact, she had only one school in mind—the Fashion Design Department of Kyoto University. She wouldn’t consider any other options.

The scores required for Kyoto University were high, but the scores for this department were relatively lower.

"How about it, have you chosen a school?" Jian Zhiqing accompanied Qin Xiangnuan in reviewing the questions, estimating her scores. Granny Lu didn’t understand any of this, and Qin Xiangyang was still in military academy training, so they had to ask Jian Zhiqing for help.

"Yes, I’ve decided," Qin Xiangnuan already had a rough estimate of her scores.

"Brother Jian, I want to choose the Fashion Design Department of Kyoto University."

Qin Xiangnuan expressed her own thoughts, and of course, she had her reasons. Kyoto University was close to home; she didn’t want to stay on campus and only desired to study design. She had been making clothes her whole life, and although it wasn’t loathing, she had always loved it. Moreover, it would be a pity not to use her embroidery skills.

She had already found her path and had plans for her future job. Step by step, she followed her goals.

"Okay," Jian Zhiqing agreed with her idea. Kyoto University was a good school, well-known nationwide, with facilities and infrastructure that could be said to be cutting-edge. And indeed, as Qin Xiangnuan mentioned, it was very close to the small four courtyard, even closer than the Baiyi Primary School. Staying at home would be more reassuring for them.
