Chapter 371: Chapter 371: Gift Giving

She felt that if she did it this way, she would really be working herself to death, using ten times as much time as others, she felt that only then she would be fully prepared without worries.

After two days of exams, her head was spinning. As she walked out of the exam room, she took a deep breath of the fresh air outside, and immediately felt her whole body relax. That’s great, the exams were finally over, she was liberated and could do whatever she liked now, although, she only had a short holiday. High school seniors started school earlier than others, with intense studies and more time invested, but no matter what, they still needed to celebrate the Lunar New Year.

Back at home, Qin Xiangnuan finally could set aside her textbooks for a moment. Having just finished her exams, it was time to let her eyes and brain rest to avoid turning into a real bookworm.

She needed to speed up writing some Spring Festival couplets, as she didn’t need to take care of household chores. With Qin Xiangyang around, helping Granny Lu sell scallion pancakes, and also going to the greenhouse, he had taken over all the household responsibilities. There was no need for Qin Xiangnuan to worry; he and Granny Lu had already neatly organized everything at home.

With a clack, Qin Xiangnuan finally opened the door of that vacant room, meaning that at last, the bags made half a year ago were aired out and could finally be put to use.

As soon as the door opened, she was confronted with a cloud of dust and quickly stepped back out, waiting a while before entering again. No wonder there was so much dust, with the windows closed and no air circulation. She walked over, opened all the windows to let some air in; there was no need to keep it locked anymore since the space was going to be used.

She peeled off the plastic covers on top, picked up a bag, dusted it off and found it quite clean, actually not too dusty. She carried out a pile of bags, and later would carefully wipe them down in case they had gathered some more dust.

By the time Qin Xiangyang returned home, Chun Xiangnuan had already organized quite a few bags, close to a hundred.

"Brother, these are for you," Qin Xiangnuan gestured towards the red bags on the stone table.

"What are these?" Qin Xiangyang came over without even washing his hands.

He picked up a bag from the table, opened it, and took out something - it was a Spring Festival couplet, something he was familiar with. Just like the scallion pancakes, every year the Qin Family would sell some for a nice income. Selling them for a couple of days was enough to have a very prosperous new year.

Previously, they only sold Spring Festival couplets, but this time it was different. There was a high-quality cardboard bag that looked very upscale. On the outside of the bag was a very cute cartoon ox, fitting since it was the Year of the Ox. Inside the bag, apart from holding couplets, there were also two ’Fu’ characters and ten red envelopes tied together. The pattern on the red envelopes matched the one on the bag, but each one had four small characters printed at the bottom right corner.

Qin Family Products.

The couplets were rolled up, and the ’Fu’ characters fit inside perfectly.

"Why are you giving me all these?" Qin Xiangyang counted roughly; there seemed to be dozens of them laid out on the table.

"Take them to give as gifts," Qin Xiangnuan tidied up the large red bags on the table one by one; they were prepared for Qin Xiangyang. She also had a portion for Jian Zhiqing to take back and give as gifts, and Granny Lu had her share to give to old friends.

As the saying goes, no one dislikes receiving too many gifts. These were all sorted out by herself and didn’t cost much money, but they added a festive spirit and joy.

Even though people now were quite genuine, no one would complain about receiving more gifts. Small gifts were always welcome.

Qin Xiangyang, however, was stunned by what Qin Xiangnuan said, "Give gifts, why are we giving gifts?"

Qin Xiangnuan really wanted to kick her older brother; how could he be so dense while having such a smart sister like her, hmph, herself.

"These..." she pointed at the bags on the table, "take them and give one to Brother Dongsheng and the rest, one each. They don’t take up much space, and it’s also for them to take home for the New Year. Give one to each of your teachers as well, and don’t forget the principal. Give some to anyone you know, and if someone asks, just say they were written by your sister at home, without spending any money, simply for the sake of good fortune."

"Brother, do you understand? Follow what I’ve said."

Qin Xiangnuan was afraid that her honest older brother wouldn’t get it, so she told him exactly what to say and do; if he really couldn’t remember, then he’d have to memorize it by heart.

"What’s with that look?" Qin Xiangyang shot a sharp glance over, immediately figuring out what his sister was thinking.

"Are you calling your brother dumb?"

Qin Xiangnuan secretly rolled her eyes and stopped paying attention.

Whether he was dumb or not, didn’t he know best himself?

Qin Xiangyang knew he was being scorned by his sister. He touched his nose; indeed, he wasn’t as quick-witted as his sister, but wasn’t that dumb after all. Now he understood what his sister meant about giving gifts. Who doesn’t know how to give gifts?

That day, he carried a bunch of bags; from a distance, he looked like a Santa Claus from somewhere, his whole figure in red, his hands not knowing how many bags held. Aside from the difficulty in walking, everything else was okay, they were not that heavy.

"I’m exhausted," he said, plopping all the bags onto his bunk bed. Unfortunately, they scattered everywhere, and he had to pick them up one by one before he could neatly arrange them. The rest of his dorm mates had also come back; they weren’t like Qin Xiangyang who lived close by. Taking a bus would get him home in half an hour, while their homes were far. It wasn’t yet vacation time; the school had provided tickets, and it would still be a few days until they could leave. So, here they were, returning from dinner.

Upon seeing the stuff scattered all over the floor, each one of them was dumbfounded.

"Xiangyang, what are you doing?"

They had no space to even put their feet down, and the five of them huddled at the doorway, worried they might step on a bomb or something, fearing an explosion with a single misstep.

Boom.

Qin Xiangyang wiped the sweat from his forehead; he had carried too many this time and was exhausted.

"Come in, take whatever you want. Inside are Spring Festival couplets, my sister wrote them herself. Take as many as you want," he said, picking up a few bags himself, not really sure how many he grabbed. "I’m off to give these to the teachers, I’ll be back soon."

After he spoke, he ran out, true to his military background, as quickly as the wind, blowing the others standing at the doorway into disarray.

Li Dongsheng was the first to recover. He carefully walked over, afraid of stepping on the upscale bags.

He crouched down, picked up a bag, and then opened it. His eyes lit up; indeed, they were Spring Festival couplets. He unfolded one to see, and to his pleasant surprise, there was a large couplet, a matching smaller one, exceptional calligraphy, two ’Fu’ characters, and ten red envelopes.

"I’ll take three, one for each household."
