Chapter 366: Chapter 366: Truly Grown Up

"Right, Nuannuan, cook me a bowl of noodles, I’m a bit hungry," after saying this, he took some clothes out of his room and entered the bathroom. This bathroom, costing several thousand yuan to install, is really an essential for their daily life. If they didn’t have it, they’d still be running to the public baths.

The distance alone isn’t great, but having to crowd in with others isn’t very sanitary either.

Qin Xiangnuan saw Jian Zhiqing leave, then pulled a notebook out from under her arm and tossed it into the system. Thankfully, although the system isn’t a space that can store objects, it does recognize paper products.

"Woof..." Conghua barked at Qin Xiangnuan as if it had discovered something, its dog eyes shining brightly, constantly watching her.

"Shh," Qin Xiangnuan put her finger to her lips.

"Woof, woof..." Conghua barked again, then quietly lay still on the ground.

Qin Xiangnuan went into the kitchen, uncertain if there were any noodles left. She remembered that Granny Lu seemed to have some stored away.

She searched the kitchen and indeed found some fresh noodles that Granny Lu had made by hand. She decided to make soup noodles, perfect since she was also hungry and they could eat together. Soup noodles cooked until soft would be easier to digest.

Not sure how long Jian Zhiqing had been hungry for, soup noodles would be better, allowing his stomach to adjust without getting bloated suddenly.

She poured some water into the pot, stir-fried tomatoes and eggs, and then cooked the noodles in the pot. After boiling the water, she added the tomatoes, then grabbed a handful of baby greens and put them into the pot. These greens were the seedlings Qin Xiangyang, she, and Granny Lu pulled out over the weekend, grown a bit too densely. If they didn’t thin them out, they wouldn’t grow well.

When these young greens were brought back, Qin Xiangnuan carefully picked off the yellow leaves, leaving only the tender hearts, which were delicious when added to the pot. She also made a garlic cucumber salad and stir-fried some greens.

By the time Jian Zhiqing finished bathing, the meal was ready.

She brought out the food. Jian Zhiqing had changed clothes and was washing his own garments by the sink. Otherwise, how could his clothes always be so clean, washing them as soon as he took them off? Although they had bought a washing machine, they still hand-washed clothes more often. Granny Lu had hand-washed clothes all her life and wasn’t used to using the machine. Jian Zhiqing would consider running a wash for just a few pieces of clothing too troublesome, so he primarily hand-washed his. Qin Xiangnuan did more of the washing, typically over the weekend when she would throw in her older brother’s clothes and just use the washing machine.

Granny Lu really wanted to wash their clothes, but they were too diligent, giving her few opportunities. Over time Granny Lu stopped insisting. However, when they were busy, the clothes were still washed by Granny Lu.

Jian Zhiqing hung up his washed clothes and came over, ready to eat.

He was really hungry and seeing the soup noodles and a few light dishes made him feel even hungrier.

Qin Xiangnuan placed a bowl in front of him.

"More soup and fewer noodles, Brother Jian should eat first. There’s another pot, we’ll talk after you’ve finished."

"Thank you," Jian Zhiqing took the noodles, thinking to himself what ’more soup, fewer noodles’ meant. There were hardly any noodles in the bowl, mostly soup, but he understood Qin Xiangnuan’s intentions. He was famished and shouldn’t eat or drink excessively; despite being really hungry, he was still careful with his stomach.

He picked up the bowl and took a sip of the soup. The taste was really good, properly seasoned, but it was a pity it was only soup without many noodles.

After finishing the bowl of soup, he handed back the bowl. Qin Xiangnuan set down her own bowl and scooped another bowl of noodles for Jian Zhiqing, this time with more noodles and less soup.

Jian Zhiqing took the bowl and after finishing a bowl of noodles, ate more than half of the two small dishes on the table, finally feeling full in his stomach.

He stood up, leaning against the tree and stood there, with an air of grace and a touch of a dashing young noble.

The windbreaker he was wearing was slightly lifted by the wind, and due to its weight, it fell back down as the corners fluttered lightly.

Qin Xiangnuan knew that he was walking to aid digestion, a habit of over a decade, and she didn’t know how he maintained it. She followed him and developed the same good habit. She cleared all the bowls from the table into the kitchen, washed and placed them neatly. When she came out, Jian Zhiqing was still standing there. His eyes were tightly closed, his breathing almost in sync with the breeze.

Qin Xiangnuan walked over, thinking he had fallen asleep, standing so still. Sometimes she truly believed that he was a spirit or a strange creature of the courtyard.

"Brother Jian," she called Jian Zhiqing’s name softly.

"Hm?" Jian Zhiqing opened his eyes, a hint of tiredness in his expression. He shook his head, trying to clear it.

"Brother Jian, if you’re tired, go to sleep," Qin Xiangnuan lifted her face, the intermittent wind was quite cold. Leaves were occasionally falling from the tree, swirling in the air before landing. The leaves were nearly yellow, their fine veins covered with the scent of deep autumn.

She blew warm breath into the palm of her hand.

In fact, it was no longer deep autumn; she was already wearing a thick cotton coat. So sleeping out here, it was easy to catch a cold.

Jian Zhiqing reached out and ruffled Qin Xiangnuan’s hair, "I’ll go sleep for a bit, you stay at home, don’t go out."

"I know, I don’t have anything to do, so I don’t need to go out."

Jian Zhiqing withdrew his hand and walked towards his room. As he reached the doorway, he couldn’t help but stop, turning back to see the girl, who had grown up, smiling at him, her gaze clear and her smile gentle. The occasional fallen leaves drifted down beside her.

He searched for her in his dreams.

Unaware of how many times.

In a moment of turning back.

To find that she was still there, waiting in the same spot, he too smiled, turned around, stepped forward, and entered his room. As he closed the door, the room was already warm, but in winter, it wasn’t very comfortable. The weather in the Capital City was cold, and in recent years it seemed to have gotten colder.

He thought about the three greenhouses in the field, considering that it wasn’t too cold yet, and decided to install wall-mounted furnaces in the house. The ones installed last year were not very warm and should probably be replaced. The Siheyuan was too large; heating it this way was simpler; otherwise, they really wouldn’t know the best way to keep warm.

Burning coal on the bed-stove wasn’t as good as having heating.

His mind was active, but he was getting more and more sleepy, not even sure when he fell asleep.

Qin Xiangnuan was still standing under the sycamore tree, a gentle breeze on her face, a threadlike chill, somewhat piercing. Suddenly, she chuckled, her eyebrows increasingly mature.
