Chapter 352: She Has Family Too
Chapter 352: Chapter 352: She Has Family Too
She walked over, crouched down on the ground, and pinched Conghua’s tip of the ear.
Conghua acted like a willful dog, burying its head in the ground, refusing to come out no matter what.
Its eyes were damp and forlorn, as if it felt pitiable and wronged.
"What’s wrong with it?" Qin Xiangnuan stroked Conghua’s ears once more, but the creature just twitched those ears without raising its head or willing to face anyone.
Jian Zhiqing crouched down by her side too.
"It wants to learn from that dog."
Jian Zhiqing pointed ahead, "Unfortunately, I can’t do that."
Qin Xiangnuan lifted her face to look forward. She saw a woman cuddling a beautiful white small dog that had a short nose and long fur. This type of Pekingese dog was quite favored by people in the past for its pleasant temperament and clinginess, not to mention its small, cute figure that was irresistibly endearing.
"Woof woof..."
Conghua opened its wet eyes and helplessly wagged its tail.
You say it’s normal for people to hold small dogs, but as a big husky dog that weighs several dozen pounds, who could lift you?
"Let’s go, never mind this stubborn dog," Jian Zhiqing stood up and walked away. Qin Xiangnuan felt powerless to intervene and patted Conghua’s head, "If you don’t want to go home, find a new owner for yourself. See who can afford to keep you?"
"You’re lazy, you eat a lot, and you love to act spoiled."
This could be either a compliment or an insult to the dog.
Conghua covered its eyes with both front paws, as though disgraced to the point of being unable to face anyone.
Qin Xiangnuan lightly jogged to catch up with Jian Zhiqing, not worried that Conghua would actually seek a new master. Dogs are extremely loyal; they raised Conghua from mere inches to its current size at home. Conghua loves its home and would never run away or fail to return.
Soon, Conghua caught up with them, but it held its head up haughtily, assuming the air of a proud and contemptuous dog.
In front of others, it acted this way, but only their family knew that it was actually a shamelessly lazy Haba dog, a disgrace to military dogs.
When she first left home, Qin Xiangnuan was full of irritation, but now, she felt much calmer.
Back in the house, when she re-entered the system, she could face everything calmly. People really do need a release, otherwise, she genuinely feared she might do something regrettable. Not to mention anything else, it could at least negatively impact this upcoming exam.
Everyone has walked through countless minor and major exams from the start of school anyway.
Honestly, who isn’t anxious during an exam? No matter how well you’ve reviewed, there’s always a sense of nervousness. No one can help this. After all, domestic exams, even decades later, remain unchanged in their rigidity, perhaps becoming even stricter, with the advent of electronic surveillance.
Bright and early, Jian Zhiqing bought her fried dough sticks and eggs, a memory he has maintained better than Qin Xiangnuan as the student herself.
At that moment, she truly envied Jian Zhiqing for not having to attend school and also her brother; cultural lessons are important, but the other physical training seems easier than what she, engrossed in literary pursuits, must endure.
Actually, she really... truly detests exams.
This was the last exam of their second year because it involved the top student class, and this time was different from the rest. Many students had sat until they had dark circles under their eyes, looking like pandas as they entered the examination hall. Qin Xiangnuan disliked this atmosphere because it made her feel like there was a mountain pressing down on her head.
It was the same when the test papers were handed out.
She flipped through the test paper - it was Chinese, a subject where rote memorization is key, aside from the essay.
When she finished answering, there was still more than half an hour left before the test was over. She wanted to hand in her paper early; Chinese was her strongest subject. She read a lot, had plenty of time, and had invested more effort into memorization than others, so she was confident she knew how many points she would score without having to double-check.
She might lose a few points on the essay, but overall, Chinese wouldn’t drag her down too much. As for other subjects, her level was about average. She had always taken extra English lessons and Teacher Wang’s students never disappointed. Considering she chose liberal arts, she still had to take math and science exams.
After three days of continuous exams, she had finally finished testing all the subjects. From next semester, she would be a senior.
She rubbed her tummy; she was quite hungry.
She slung her backpack over her shoulder and left. She had no interest in going over the exam questions with other students on an empty stomach. It was all done and dusted, after all.
As she walked out of the school, many parents were still anxiously debating. It was only a second-year exam, nothing worth being so serious about. Although she opposed parents coming to wait, she couldn’t help but wonder if her disdain came from a bitterness of grapes out of reach.
She didn’t have parents. In both of her lives, her parents never came to wait for her after an exam.
"What’s up? What are you thinking?"
A sudden voice snapped her out of her thoughts.
It was Jian Zhiqing.
She lifted her head and clutched her backpack tighter. Sure enough, there he was, already waiting outside, not sure for how long. He had a thermos cup in hand.
"Come here," he waved Qin Xiangnuan over.
Qin Xiangnuan put her backpack on properly and hurried over, inexplicably feeling a bounce of joy in her heart.
"Finished with exams?" Jian Zhiqing reached out to take Qin Xiangnuan’s heavy backpack with a sigh, wondering if the weight wasn’t going to stunt the kid’s growth. He wondered if their little Nuannuan had been oppressed by the heaviness of schoolbooks.
"Yeah," Qin Xiangnuan rubbed her shoulders, feeling much lighter.
"Just finished."
"How did it go?" Jian Zhiqing asked, as he handed her the thermos cup. The cup was quite expensive but the insulation was excellent, keeping water warm all day long. Clearly, Jian Zhiqing had hurried over right after work.
"Not bad," Qin Xiangnuan was aware of her expected scores and wasn’t concerned about securing second place or getting into the top student class; she unscrewed the cup and took a sip. The water was still warm, slightly scalding, indicative of Jian Zhiqing’s immediate arrival.
"Let’s go," Jian Zhiqing casually straightened Qin Xiangnuan’s hair. "Brother Jian will take you out for a meal. My treat."
"Oh..." Qin Xiangnuan glanced up at his smiling eyes. "Did Brother Jian get paid today?"
"When do I ever get paid without you knowing?" Jian Zhiqing teased. They had been neighbors for years; both knew the dates of her exams and his paydays.
