Rebirth in 1980: The Farm Wife Makes a Comeback
Chapter 343: Making the Most of Everything

Chapter 343: Chapter 343: Making the Most of Everything

Bosses sporting slicked-back hair, hair gel, and holding hefty mobile phones were seen by many as the epitome of wealth. For the ordinary people, these individuals were ones to look up to, and some would truly exclaim in their hearts—so this is what the wealthy look like, this is what a boss looks like, this is what it means to have money.

However, twenty years later, mobile phones had become commonplace everywhere.

The employee had put away their bulky phone and finally sat down with a beaming smile.

Qin Xiangnuan also couldn’t help but slightly curl up the corners of her mouth, had they reached an agreement already?

"Our leader said we can give you some," indeed, the employee’s next words hit right in Qin Xiangnuan’s expectations.

"As for how much land, that will also depend on the size of the house."

Their land was located not far in a vegetable patch. All in all, one house could be exchanged for one and a half acres, adding in Jian Zhiqing’s property, they together managed to secure nearly five acres, and this land was theirs— not merely a share of the whole village.

If it were the village’s, then the right to sell wouldn’t belong to them individually; they would only have the right to lease for farming but no rights to trade. However, the land they got from Qin Xiangnuan did come with trading rights, which meant it was indeed their private property. Five acres was quite a lot.

Moreover, the location was better than Qin Xiangnuan had expected. A few years down the line, a renowned school campus along with its business district would be built here, which was where real money could be made. She felt as if fortune had fallen into her lap without her intending it, and was almost in disbelief.

"What? You don’t like it here?"

Jian Zhiqing stepped on the soft, fertile soil, enjoying these plots more than the houses.

"It’s good, very good," Qin Xiangnuan didn’t even know what to say anymore—whether it was excitement, admiration, or something else, she just didn’t want to think too hard about it.

"Brother Jian, you don’t think they’ll demolish these too, do you?" Qin Xiangnuan asked hopelessly, really wishing to keep farming here indefinitely for their own vegetables. But for Capital City, such luxury was too much.

Such a large tract of land could be used to build several large buildings. How could she let it go unused?

"What, you’re afraid it’ll be requisitioned again?"

Jian Zhiqing understood Qin Xiangnuan’s concern. The demolitions had left her fearful.

"Yes," Qin Xiangnuan shifted her hands behind her back, tugging at her clothes, "I hope we can keep farming here forever, not put up any big buildings. It’s great to have our own vegetables."

Jian Zhiqing could only smile wryly, "I don’t know, I’m not from the urban planning bureau."

"But we should be able to farm here for quite a few years, right?"

Qin Xiangnuan knew they could farm for at least five years until the time came to arrange a marriage home for Brother Jian.

"The land is quite vast, how do you plan to manage?" Jian Zhiqing wanted to ask her this as their family, from the elderly to the young, had quite an abundance of land. Managing it would surely require substantial effort.

"I’ll ask my brother," Qin Xiangnuan wasn’t worried at all. Qin Xiangyang was just another labor force, and in his dormitory, there were six robust young men. Besides, she didn’t believe that none of Qin Xiangyang’s fellow soldiers knew how to farm.

"You really know how to make the most out of everything," Jian Zhiqing ruffled her hair, Qin Xiangnuan was accustomed to this—since childhood, he was much taller and always treated her like a little kid.

"Okay, good," Jian Zhiqing pushed aside Qin Xiangnuan’s hair.

"The scars are no longer visible, your hair has grown out completely, though it’s still a bit short," he patted Qin Xiangnuan’s head again; her hair was fluffy. Qin Xiangnuan’s hair had always been fine and thin, which was difficult to manage. She had it cut once, which oddly seemed to have made it appear thicker. She had been persisting without cutting it these past months, and it was now almost reaching her neck—but it was rather uncomfortable for her bearing such mid-length hair in the summer heat.

Qin Xiangnuan also touched her own head and knowing from Jian Zhiqing’s remark, realized she no longer needed to apply medicine and just had to wait for her hair to grow out covering everything, which truly meant there wasn’t anything to see.

When the weekend came, Qin Xiangyang returned, bringing some of the dormitory guys, especially Li Dongsheng, who sweet-talked Granny Lu like she was his own dear grandmother.

"Dongsheng is here," Granny Lu immediately brightened up seeing Li Dongsheng, hurriedly fetching some candies, "Are you hungry? I’ll prepare something delicious for you all."

"Thank you, Granny," Li Dongsheng smiled sweetly, "Granny’s cooking is delicious. When I’m back at school, I can’t eat anything else. Just thinking about the dumplings you make, look, I’ve even slimmed down," he pinched his own cheek, almost looking like he really had lost weight due to hunger.

"Poor thing," Granny Lu also felt pity and hastily said, "Just wait, I’ll go make dumplings for you," and with that, she went into the kitchen to make dumplings for the sweet-talking Li Dongsheng.

Actually, Qin Xiangyang preferred noodles, but Li Dongsheng, this boy liked dumplings. Having a silver tongue was indeed advantageous; he made Granny treat him like her own grandson, unlike her actual grandson, who seemed more like an adopted child.

Granny Lu really did make dumplings, and the group of strapping young men each had two big bowls before preparing to head out to work on the fields.

Five acres for them wasn’t too much, especially for Qin Xiangyang, who had been farming since he was a child. The other guys had also done some farming before. With their strong young bodies, they managed to get the land ready in just a day.

They planted an acre of potatoes, some vegetables, cabbages, and a plot of sweet potatoes, with the potatoes and sweet potatoes taking up about four acres. The vegetables, being less than an acre, were mainly because they were easy to manage. Granny Lu was getting on in years, Qin Xiangnuan had to attend school and couldn’t stay in the fields daily, and Qin Xiangyang could only come home on weekends to take care of the land.

Now he had something to do. Every weekend, he brought his dorm mates home to help farm, and to enjoy delicious food made by Granny Lu. Given that their home had spacious rooms, two people per room, it was also convenient for them to sleep over.

Qin Xiangnuan’s exams were approaching, and recently she felt like she was developing blisters on her mouth from all the busyness.

Take a sip.

Jian Zhiqing placed a cup in front of her.

Qin Xiangnuan took it, and upon tasting it, sensed a different flavor, "This isn’t water, it’s mung bean soup?"

"Yes, your Granny cooked it, drink more."
