Chapter 336: Chapter 336: Planning to Stay

"Taotao, what are you doing on that old man’s legs?" As soon as Granny Lu came out, she saw Taotao stepping on the legs of the old man she had picked up and hurriedly came over and carried away the chubby kid.

"Sorry, sir," Granny Lu was genuinely apologetic, "the child doesn’t understand."

"Do you have dumplings?"

The old man, with sharp eyes, had already spotted the dumplings that Granny Lu had made, looking like ingots one by one.

"Yes," Granny Lu looked back at the kitchen for a moment and then said, "If you would like to eat, then wait until my children come back, and we can eat together, you’ll definitely have a meal here."

The old man didn’t say whether it was good or bad, but his buttocks remained seated on the stone chair.

"Linlin, take Taotao to wash your hands," Granny Lu waved and called over Jian Zhiqin.

Jian Zhiqin glanced at Mr. Li, then at Granny Lu, ran over to Granny Lu, and tugged at her sleeve.

"Granny, that’s my grandpa."

Granny Lu didn’t react for a moment, as her memory wasn’t as good due to her old age, and her responses seemed to be slower.

It wasn’t until a while later that she remembered what Jian Zhiqin had just said.

"You’re saying, that’s your grandpa, so he is your maternal grandfather?"

"Yes," Jian Zhiqin firmly nodded his head, "He’s my grandpa, my real grandpa, my mom’s real dad, my and brother’s real grandpa, real, very real."

"I know, I got it," Granny Lu patted Jian Zhiqin’s little head.

Then she took Jian Zhiqin, letting him take Taotao to play, and she poured a glass of water and placed it on the stone table.

"I’m sorry, Eldest Brother, I didn’t know it was you. How come you suddenly came here without telling the kids?" Granny Lu thought that it was no wonder she mistook him for a beggar since the old man came alone and sat at the door.

"It was impolite of me," the old man spoke, revealing the scholar he once was, unlike other scholars. Although he was old, he was not rigid nor did he harbor the old feudal mentality of favoring boys over girls.

Granny Lu was quite baffled by his remark; when Grandpa Lu was still alive, he always spoke harshly to Granny Lu, often using foul language, cursing their parents countless times.

Mr. Li, being such an educated man, truly flattered Granny Lu. Granny Lu couldn’t read at all, so she had always looked up to the educated from a young age; although sadly, she never learned to read in her lifetime. However, she had not lived her life in vain, as she has grandsons who are good at studying, one attending a military academy and the other preparing for university.

Yet deep inside, she held a respectful reverence for intellectuals.

Soon after, Jian Zhiqing hurried back, and upon seeing the old man sitting in the courtyard, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.

"Grandpa, how come you’re here?"

He walked over, sat down, and then poured a cup of tea for the old man.

Mr. Li, upon seeing his eldest grandson, rolled his eyes and pursed his lips, "Drank too much, not drinking."

Alright then, Jian Zhiqing could only put down the cup, "And, where have you been, covered in dirt?" He said as he patted Mr. Li’s shoulder, full of dirt, "Where did it come from?"

"Swept it off the streets," Mr. Li didn’t care about the dirt on him at all. Back when he was fighting in wars, he was moving through dirt and mud, never clean.

Mr. Li sat there as if his butt was nailed down, even when Jian Zhiqing came, he didn’t talk much, just kept staring at the cups on the table, making it really hard to communicate.

"Elder brother, come wash your hands."

Granny Lu brought out a basin of water and soap from the kitchen, and also a clean towel, placing it on the basin stand.

The stand for the basin was an iron rack that could hold the basin and a towel on top, very practical for putting everything.

Mr. Li stood up, washed his hands and his face, and walked steadily, showing no signs of old age.

"Zhiqing, you go wash up too, it’s time to eat,"

Granny Lu also invited Jian Zhiqing to wash up, and brought the two little ones as well.

Jian Zhiqing brought Jian Zhiqin and Taotao; Taotao, being small, happily soaked his little hands in the water, grinning happily, while Jian Zhiqin seemed a bit restrained, probably intimidated by Mr. Li, Qin Xiangnuan truly felt sympathy for Jian Zhiqin.

The youngest child of the Jian family, oppressed by parents above and a bullying elder brother, now even their grandfather is strict; it’s no wonder he is always squeezed by everyone around, just like a little dough in front of this grandfather, to be moulded and pinched as desired.

Qin Xiangnuan didn’t find Mr. Li too terrifying, but perhaps it’s because of his wartime experiences, carrying the lives of many, naturally exuding a murderous aura, which might be what scares the children, as for Taotao, he’s too young to be scared yet.

That little chubby one still dares to act naughty in front of Mr. Li, probably because he doesn’t really think too much, Qin Xiangnuan felt that even when Little Taotao grows up, he might not be as fearful of Mr. Li as Jian Zhiqin.

After all, he’s the youngest in the family, and frankly, he is someone else’s child, somewhat distantly related, which makes things a bit more forgiving.

Granny Lu brought out two large plates of dumplings, setting them in the living room, meat-filled ones for now, with vegetarian ones to come.

As she came out, Conghua ran over happily, also carrying his own food bowl.

"Got it, got it," Granny Lu laughed and patted Conghua’s head, "Whatever we eat later, you’ll eat the same, okay?"

Woof woof, Conghua barked happily, then the food bowl fell, he promptly lowered his head, picked it up again, and followed Granny Lu around.

Granny Lu filled half of Conghua’s bowl with dumplings and placed it next to Conghua’s den in the empty small room, allowing him to eat by himself.

Conghua wagged his tail continuously, diving headfirst into the bowl, unwilling to come out.

After serving the vegetarian dumplings at the table, both the adults and children in the house were eating dumplings, not much was left, whether vegetarian or meat.

After the meal and drinks, Mr. Li still showed no intention of leaving, Granny Lu then pulled Qin Xiangnuan aside to discuss.

"Nuannuan, your Grandpa Li seems to want to stay over? We can’t just chase him away, look at the poor man, if he goes out, what if he can’t find enough food or clothes?" Granny Lu, always soft-hearted, couldn’t let go of Granny Hua back in Shenjia Village; now seeing Mr. Li as hungry as a beggar here, she can’t bear it.
