Chapter 289: Chapter 289: Business Is Good
"Yeah, I really didn’t expect to earn 20 bucks in just one day," Xie Yonghong said, patting his chest, his face still in shock and not yet settled.
"The student you’re teaching might be earning even more, like 30 bucks. Her pancakes are sold for 40 cents each, and there are lots of buyers."
"What, are you jealous?" Teacher Wang asked with a smile as he put away the money into a cabinet on the side, feeling a huge weight lifted from his shoulders, as if he’d shed several mountains.
"Not at all," Xie Yonghong answered genuinely without any envy, "I’ve tried that kid’s pancakes, they’re especially delicious. Today, when she left, she gave some leftovers to her classmates, and the rest were for me. After having some, I know they’re really well-made, extremely tasty. Tonight, when you get back, we’ll eat those. If I weren’t so strapped for cash, I’d be willing to spend the extra money to treat myself to a good breakfast too."
"That’s settled then," Teacher Wang sat down, taking his son’s little hand and giving it a squeeze, "We’ll work harder from now on. If we can make this much every day, we’ll save up a fair bit over the year."
"Isn’t that the truth?" Xie Yonghong also sat down, giving Teacher Wang’s hand a firm pat, "Stop teasing him already, he just fell asleep. He was so close to waking up again. This little guy has quite the temper. If he really woke up, I’d like to see how you’d manage to soothe him."
Teacher Wang didn’t dare to move carelessly anymore, knowing that his son indeed could be quite delicate, but that is often the case with newborns.
He glanced at the time; it was nearly time for him to head out and give the student a tutorial.
"I’m off to give a tutorial," he whispered.
"Okay," Xie Yonghong said as she helped straighten Teacher Wang’s clothes, "We owe your student a lot. You should tutor her well, bring out all your skills. It’s the least we can do to repay the debts we owe." This wasn’t just about money—it was also about gratitude.
"I know," Teacher Wang had never slacked off a single day, always conscientiously fulfilling his duties, treating tutoring sessions as seriously as his own classes and never cutting corners with his students.
He was just about to push his bicycle out when he saw Xie Yonglan squatting on the ground washing clothes, the slight girl emaciated, her face so thin that hardly any flesh was left, her clothes were pretty worn too. He remembered these were the clothes Xie Yonghong had outgrown years ago.
He stopped his bike and went back into the house.
"Why are you back?" Xie Yonghong asked Teacher Wang, puzzled, "Did you forget something?"
"No, I’ve got everything."
He pulled Xie Yonghong aside. "Honghong, go buy some meat tomorrow and get Yonglan a few pieces of clothing. Look how thin that child is, doing all the household chores; seeing her like this is really heartbreaking."
"Alright," Xie Yonghong’s heart was also somewhat heavy. Marrying such a man, she truly felt that she had lucked out in life. She wished for not much more than to be treated sincerely. Teacher Wang was good to her, and she knew it, as he was also good to her family.
He had worked hard enough for this family, and from now on, she had to double her own efforts.
It was only then that Teacher Wang finally rode off on his bicycle. When he returned, he handed Xie Yonghong a key.
"This is from Xiang Nuan. You should help out where you can tomorrow morning. Xiang Nuan is still a student, and she has a heavy school load."
"Okay, I got it, don’t worry," Xie Yonghong had no intention of delaying any further. Ever since they had the child, she never had a good night’s sleep anyway, waking up around five in the morning.
Life at the Wang Family had been improving steadily. A daily income of 20 bucks was guaranteed. Indeed, it was a mutually beneficial arrangement. Selling porridge alone wouldn’t bring in that much money, but with pancakes added, they were able to sell a lot more bowls. Everyone loved Xiang Nuan’s pancakes, and of course, they also loved the porridge made by Xie Yonghong. Xie Yonghong was good at doing business; she was savvy but never stingy, never skimping on ingredients just to save a penny.
The porridge she made was always generously portioned, and gradually, the little shop gained some fame. More and more people came specifically to eat there, and inevitably their wallets grew fatter.
And now, Qin Xiangnuan was indeed more relaxed. Xie Yonghong would arrive earlier in the morning, getting the stove and everything ready. By the time Qin Xiangnuan arrived, she could just start making pancakes. Anyway, the monthly income of both of them was pretty much set.
Xie Yonghong could take home about 700 bucks a month, and she was absolutely flabbergasted. The smile on her face grew wider, and Teacher Wang also felt the same. As the family’s financial situation improved, they moved to a larger house. At the very least, they had to secure a room for Xie Yonglan; it wasn’t appropriate for the three of them to sleep in the same room, even with a curtain separating them.
After moving three times in a row, they finally found the right place—a house of their own with a small yard, perfect for laundry and all that was needed. Plus, it was much cooler in the summer; staying in the old house during the hot summer days with the sun beaming directly in was hardly comfortable.
Indeed, time always passes us by so swiftly. In the blink of an eye, winter was gone, spring had come, and now summer was upon them.
Qin Xiangnuan habitually took out a pill and began to take it.
It was only after she swallowed that she remembered—she shouldn’t be taking the medicine anymore. It had only been half a year, and she had already developed quite a bit. She wasn’t flat-chested anymore, but now it seemed a little over the top. Looking at her chest, the rising curves were considerably prominent, yet she was naturally thin, perhaps too big? She planned not to take it anymore but out of habit, she continued, and for a long time, she forgot that she no longer needed it.
That’s when she remembered what the system had said.
"The more you eat, the bigger they get, until you decide to stop." She quickly threw the medicine into the drawer and locked it, to avoid forgetting and taking it out again.
As the summer heat intensified, she wore less clothing, and though it was still very loose-fitting, something felt off. She once again entered the system and pulled up the system’s transparent panel.
"System, do you have any way to decrease breast size?"
They’re too big, out of proportion. They were just right a month ago; it’s all her fault for forgetting to stop taking the medicine, consuming it for an extra couple of weeks. If not for that, she wouldn’t be so frustrated now. Being small has its issues, but being too big is troublesome too.
The system chimed in, displaying a response.
