Her mood was getting cranky as days passed by, and she was failing to understand what difficulties her daughter was facing since she wasn’t opening up.

"Mother, I’m fine and at the moment I’m doing my homework which I need to concentrate on and get it done, can you please don’t disturb me?" She sharply glared at her before blowing her head and avoiding her mother’s gaze.

"Shi Shi..." Zhou Zan stretched her hand to hold her daughter’s hand but Huo Shi moved them backwards avoiding her mother’s hand.

"Mother, what’s the matter with you? I thought you were busy in the garden, you can go back and tend to your vegetables..." She wanted to close her bedroom door and go back inside but she heard footsteps echoing through the hallway approaching her bedroom door.

"Shi Shi, why are you using that rude tone addressing Mother? She is just worried about you! Can’t you be at least understanding?" Huo Yan’s voice echoed from the further side of the hallway as he got closer to the duo standing at the bedroom door.

"I’m busy brother...I have a lot of homework to work on at the moment and I ain’t in the mood to chitchat!" She lifted her eyebrows as her forehead creased glaring at her brother who had gotten closer.

"I wanted to know if you want to buy a dress for the upcoming engagement banquet of your Uncle, we have an invitation to attend..." Zhou Zan didn’t know what was the matter with her girl and why was she being this moody.

"Okay Mother, tomorrow we will go and buy dresses, I don’t have any new dress that matches the occasion..." After that short statement, she closed her bedroom door locking it. They were standing at the door and they could hear that lock moving.

"Huo Shi..." Huo Yan coldly muttered but Huo Shi didn’t care, she strode back over to the desk, whatever she was doing was way more important than what they were trying to tell her. In their previous life, she was never like this, what could have changed?

"Mother, let her be...let’s go down..." Huo Yan held his mother’s shoulders and they went down the stairs over to the sitting area before settling down on the couch.

"Does she hate me? What did I do wrong?" Zhou Zan couldn’t understand where she had gone wrong in parenting, she had always been there for her daughter, but why was she becoming distant and cranky?

"Mother, just let her be, maybe she has a lot of homework to deal with, don’t worry about her, maybe my elder brother will discipline her once he comes back from abroad..." He got a serviette from the serviettes dispenser that was on the table and gently wiped her tears away.

They knew Huo Shi was more respectful and feared their elder brother, but he had been abroad for the past five years, they didn’t know if he would finally return back home.

"It’s okay, maybe it’s just a phase she is going through..." Zhou Zan could only excuse her daughter, it didn’t matter what she did, she would always be her daughter.

"Okay Mother, we will talk to her..." Huo Yan also thought maybe his sister was at that rebellious stage, without talking and counselling her through it, it might ruin her future.

"Huo Yan, your Uncle has cancelled your engagement and you can get engaged to Su Qing as you wish! You can call her and then settle for a day that you think it’s suspicious or I will ask the Master..." Zhou Zan didn’t know what was up with her daughter but she didn’t show her sad emotions, maybe it was schoolwork that was weighing her down. She thought so in her heart.

She decided to give her time to do her things first, "Mother, you don’t have to worry about that! At the moment, things aren’t that stable and the entire hierarchy is being shuffled, I saw news that Small Uncle has cancelled all of the Huo Conglomerate projects with other top family companies and the Su family might be amongst the affected ones...let’s wait and see how things unfold themselves..." He held her hand and gently tapped on it as he comforted her.
