Chapter 152: Community Hospital
Chapter 152: Chapter 152: Community Hospital
"The upper floor is for vaccinations, I want to go up and take a look," she said.
Jhiang Yuan didn’t hide her eagerness. Time was pressing, and it already got dark by five in the evening now.
Once the temperature dropped sharply, it became unbearable for people.
For some reason, even when the sun came out, the temperature didn’t improve much.
Instead, it got even colder. One evening, it even dropped to minus forty degrees.
She remembered the Inuit then and wondered if she could survive this time.
"Okay, then we’ll start from here."
Coming out together was inevitable; Jhiang Yuan was prepared for this.
Now heading to the fourth floor was easy; only this layer of ice remained.
The windows were shattered and fragmented. Song Yi led the way, picking one with less broken glass, cleared it slightly, and then entered.
Jhiang Xingzhi and Jhiang Yuan followed him, and they had to bring the ice cart inside. Leaving it outside was simply too dangerous.
This was the corridor on the fourth floor. Walking ahead led to a large activity area, where children and parents rested after vaccinations.
Opposite were five offices; she was not quite sure what exactly they were for.
Next to the activity area were the physical examination room and, further on, the registration and vaccination area, both semi-enclosed.
There was also a resting room and a mother-and-child room at the back, generally empty and sometimes not even open.
From the outside, Jhiang Yuan remembered there was also a refrigerator, storing vaccines for the next day’s use.
But most of the vaccines were still stored in another room at the back.
Once, they had arrived early and saw a young nurse tidying up there.
Song Yi was very cautious. Understanding his intentions, Jhiang Yuan signaled them to split up and keep watch.
She would check these offices, while the other two would come from the activity area to ensure there were no other people or security risks.
Technically, there should be no one around, due to the extreme heat back then.
The community vaccine group had already notified parents that vaccination services were temporarily halted; Jhiang Yuan was among them.
Indeed, everything was secure. Nonetheless, the three of them didn’t dare to be too careless; there was another building next door.
They still needed to be quiet to be safe.
Jhiang Xingzhi also came out with Song Yi once and was able to accept this kind of atmosphere.
The three of them split up. Without a word, Jhiang Yuan chose these offices.
Starting from the one at the very end, she let Song Yi and her dad search the rest.
As for how to divide the search, she didn’t have time to think about it and just got started.
The first office was apparently for paperwork, with piles of documents everywhere.
There were only two desks in the middle, also filled with papers needed for vaccination signatures.
These items were somewhat unnecessary; useful in a way, they could start a fire.
But with limited space, she decisively gave up on them.
Jhiang Yuan then entered the second office, which turned out to be the vaccine storage room, containing a large fridge.
Surprisingly, it still had electricity; her eyes involuntarily lit up.
These battery-storing fridges were rare, and vaccines were expensive. They must have been acquired to handle emergencies.
She hadn’t expected that after so much time, they would still be working; it was certainly a fortunate find for her.
The vaccines inside were complete; she roughly checked them, Hib, Hepatitis B, influenza, hand-foot-and-mouth disease, chickenpox...
It was very comprehensive. Pressed for time, Jhiang Yuan didn’t think much; she just took the fridge and packed up everything.
There were also several boxes next to it, labeled "disposable syringes," available in large quantities.
She also found plenty of cotton swabs, iodine, and children’s band-aids.
All these were necessary for vaccinations, and now that she stumbled upon them, she quickly gathered some.
Then came the second office, where Jhiang Yuan checked out the progress of the other two people when she emerged.
There wasn’t much stuff here, so it was quick.
By the time they reached the third office, which seemed to be the staff area for medical personnel, there were several desks around.
Jhiang Yuan took out an oversized woven luggage bag from her backpack.
The nurses and doctors here were all young women, and there was quite a bit of stuff on their desks.
Instant coffee, flower tea, slimming tea, fruit tea, milk pudding, tissues, and wet wipes—which had dried out but there were many.
Jhiang Yuan thought for a moment and still packed them up, guessing they had evaporated due to the heat but could still be used later.
There were also some cosmetics, with hand cream being the most abundant. Moreover, Jhiang Yuan found two boxes of 84 disinfectant here.
The bad news was they had frozen, but it didn’t matter; she decided to take them back first and see.
She would store these in her space and check on them later.
"Jhiang Yuan, how’s it going on your end?"
"Not bad, found some little things. How about you?"
With that, she exited, and the other two people had different findings.
"Dad, what are you doing with this?"
No wonder she was surprised; Jhiang Xingzhi had gotten hold of a rocking horse.
It was placed in the resting area for parents to pacify their children.
"I got it for Xiao Nuan to play with back home!"
Jhiang Yuan couldn’t help but facepalm, especially at the pink color, which was a bit glaring.
"Dad, just take this then. Xiao Nuan has several little cars and stuff, all piling up at home.
We don’t have space at home, let’s pass on this!"
Jhiang Xingzhi was unfazed and continued living in his own world.
Song Yi looked on, amused.
"Let’s check the remaining places!"
"Alright!"
That was all they could do; if they found more stuff later, their dad himself would stop taking things.
She went to the fourth office, while Song Yi went to another one.
This was a doctor’s office; there wasn’t much, just some water cups, tea, and tissues.
However, there was a large plant in the corner, now unrecognizable.
She collected that directly, planning if possible, to upgrade her space later.
In the future, she could create a huge farm inside it, ensuring the livelihood of her family, regardless of the situation.
In the drawer below, there were quite a few silver needles wrapped in a leather roll.
Although they were not her specialty, she considered it important to keep a set.
In her excitement, she also didn’t forget to take the acupoint meridian map on the wall, thinking she could self-study it later.
This doctor appeared quite adept; apart from these, she found several medical books.
Two on acupuncture and the remaining four about pediatric diseases.
Perfect, Xiao Nuan had been healthy lately.
But, just in case.
Thinking of this, after she came out, she picked up three brochures from the lobby’s bulletin board.
All were concerning infectious diseases, common childhood illnesses, or vaccination promo.
Though simple, it was still good to read, given she knew nothing about it!
